They called and told me that I would have a private table for our anniversary. We had a table right up against someone. It was the total opposite of the call.
Food was delicious. I was surprised that they did not have a sommelier in house on a Friday night. Count on $100 per person, and it is worth it.
Had a reservation, got there early, hostess said she’d come get us in the bar...waited, waited, went back out to hostess stand and guess what, table just opened. Waitress came to table and asked if we were ready to order...never asked if we’d been there before, didn’t review the menu, etc. She went and brought us drinks and bread, and again just asked if we were ready to order. Ordered oysters that weren’t terribly fresh. The prime steak was very good but the mushroom/onions had dried out under a heat lamp or some other holding device. Weren’t offered desserts. Paid our bill and were up putting our coats on when they brought two bite size desserts.
We’ll not be back. For the price paid Ruth’s Chris, Morton’s, Hyde park are far better options.
There were quite a few issues during our time at Red. The first being our filets that we ordered. I ordered a medium steak. I received a steak that was rare. It wasn’t even pink. I couldn’t eat it, unfortunately. I did tell our server and he offered a free dessert. My husband asked for his filet to be medium well. It ended up being well. Burnt actually. Surprisingly, the steaks have no flavor. Our friend ordered the crab legs (not shelled). The server brought them out and they were shelled. He received Crab meat only. Our server was definitely not on his A-game. We ordered multiple rounds of cocktails. 20 minutes later we’d get them. He forgot them one time and we had to remind him. I asked for steak sauce and had to remind the server to bring it out. There were 6 of us and so we ordered 6 sides to share. They were just ok. We’ve had better. I would hope that a restaurant that specializes in steaks would be able to cook them properly. Unfortunately, they did not. The prices at Red are about the same at Eddie V’s. Red does not even compare. Eddie V’s steaks and sides are phenomenal as is their service. Eddie V’s is on point. We did discuss all of the above with the server and he offered us 1 free desert. Our bill came to close to $700 for 6 adults. We will not be visiting Red again. The restaurant was not busy at 7:30 on a Saturday night. That should have been a sign. :(
It was very good. For the quality of the food and the experience, we wish the atmosphere was a little more intimate. The food was phenomenal and overall, we will defiantly nicely be back. BTW the bar area is very cool.
We had dinner with a group of eight prior to a Friday evening Pens game. Service was excellent and they were very mindful of timing. We were in a private dining room so noise level could have been different for our party than others in the main dining room. However the overall experience was great. Food was quite good.
This was my second time to Red the Steakhouse in Pittsburgh, and it won't be the last. Both times, the service has been impeccable! We ordered a bottle of wine (I couldn't decide between two), and both of the wines we wanted were out-of-stock. To make up for it, they gave us a more expensive bottle of wine at the cost of the least expensive we wanted to order. Also, we ordered a dessert, and the waitress came back and told us the chef did not like the way it turned out so they did not have the specific one we ordered, so they comped us a dessert as well. On top of excellent service, the food is fabulous. The steaks were excellent, piping hot, and cooked PERFECTLY. The sides were also great -- risotto of the day was delicious as was the wedge salad. For an aperitif we had the limoncello which was also outstanding. Great meal both times from start to finish. We will be back!

The catch of the day entre I selected was no longer available on the specials at lunch. someone made the decision to prepare and send me a substitute, without asking me what I prefer. While the staff made every concession and apology, and removed the meal from the bill, I guess I expected better customer service from an upscale restaurant. The substitute was awful. Everyone else's meal looked yummy. Food envy.
Well handled and professional
I made reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday with our son and daughter-in-law and confirmed the special event when the restaurant called to confirm the reservation. I was disappointed that the wait team seemed to have no knowledge of the special occasion. I did not mention it when we were being seated as my husband doesn't like to make a big deal of things. Bottom line, food was good - but pricey in comparison to other restaurants of similar quality. We did order and pay for yummy desserts - but didn't receive a complimentary birthday dessert which most restaurants provide. I know it sounds petty, but I was expecting something small and was disappointed.

Great meal. The salmon was excellent on top of the Greek Salad. I preferred the Caesar dressing to the Greek (bland). Vegetables were fresh and crisp. Will go back for sure.
I've been to Red 5 times now and each time has been better than the last. Food and service is fantastic. This is definitely the place to be!
This was my first visit. It was a two person business lunch. I will definitely go back for lunch, and dinner, as well. The special was "halibut" over vegetables. The fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The potato-leek soup before dinner was excellent. I skipped the doughnut holes dessert, however, it was a tough choice as they looked fantastic.
I asked for a quiet place for our lunch. What I was given was perfect. Our wait person was attentive and helpful without being intrusive - a fantastic combination.
As this was an end-of-the-week lunch, it was not extremely crowded when I was there. However, the atmosphere, design and spacing cause me to think that even with a more crowded room, something about the ambiance remains inviting and relaxing. The person who was at lunch with me confided he thought Red has the best steak in Pittsburgh, which is saying quite something given all of the choices in the 'Burgh these days.
Had dinner with my son for March Madness. Service and food was great. Had a slight delay waiting for appetizers but they removed the cost from our bill as a goodwill gesture. No complaints!
We arrived for our 5:15 reservation and ordered quickly. They knew we had to be done by 6:30 and said it would be no problem. Salads arrived at 5:25. We left at 6:25 because our dinners never arrived. They apologized but that didn't help us get dinner. There are many other steakhouses in the city that provide good food and good service. Total incompetence at Red - would never recommend.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his birthday, and when i say outstanding i truly mean it! Everything from the food, experience, service, seating, decorations i mean EVERYTHING was outstanding about this place! I will definitely be coming back and will recommend to everyone! Great place with great food and service. It was delicious!
Overall good. Only mishap was my business partner and I got flat Diet Coke an Cokes with our lunch. They ended up taking them off the bill. It was much appreciated.

There was nothing impressive about the restaurant. The server was very nice but everything else was just so-so. When we go to a restaurant and end with a check that we did, we expect to leave the restaurant wowed and wanting to return. Neither happened. This Is a thumbs down.

Food, service and overall experience was just okay. I ordered the filet and it was cooked well but I didn't like whatever seasoning they use, it was too salty for my taste. When I order an expensive steak I don't like it seasoned, it shouldn't need to be. The presentation was lacking, the steaks were served on a plate by themselves. A little garnish or juice would have gone a long way. I also had the truffle mashed potatoes. Obviously the truffle seasoning was fantastic but the texture of the potatoes seemed thin. The Caesar salad again was okay. I wasn't wowed like I am when I leave Hyde Park or Capital Grill
Never got the WOW factor we got from other upscale restaurants. For the money paid the service was minimal. Just was not impressed and will not be going back.
Service was great. Scallops were wonderful, but my husband's steak was just average and very fatty. Would go back, but not for the steak.

It's not Hyde Park, but it's pretty good. The service takes way too long. The ambiance is ok, nothing spectacular.
The only reason I gave RED Steakhouse 2 stars was because the service was excellent. Otherwise it was very disappointing. My wife and I ordered the bone-in filet medium rare, supposedly 8 oz. in size. When they arrived, my wife's filet was double the size of mine. While the manager was kind enough to send out a replacement, it was overcooked and tough. The potato tots were parmesanless, wild mushrooms flavorless, and brussel sprouts were hard. In addition, the cocktails were way overpriced (higher than NYC). While the salads and bread were tasty, it sure was worth our total for the night of $300!!

This was a great Birthday Valentine’s dinner. We were greeted with smiles. ( I left my sport coat in the car and the valet retrieved it for me!). Jenn was a good waitress. Nearby to answer questions or fill water glasses but not intrusive. Red house salad with greens candied nut and goat cheese with raspberry vinaigrette was a tasty large portion. I has prime filet mignon cooked to medium. Nice charred outside but juicy. She had scallops. Large portions. Sides whipped potatoes and asparagus were large enough to share. When they overheard it was my birthday they brought donuts with dipping chocolate, Carmel, raspberry. Nice atmosphere, background music, background conversations not too loud. Decor was modern, clean lines. Glass wine room was a room divider a good visual. Overall a pleasant experience. I recommend.
