Red, the Steakhouse Pittsburgh Ratings and Reviews
Our party had excellent service from walking in the door to exiting. The food was tasty and displayed well on the plates. The portions were on the generous side. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable, but not compromising the opportunity for it's use to meet for a business lunch. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and colleagues.
We had a great experience at Red. The food was fantastic and service was great! We went for Pittsburgh Restaurant Week and ordered off the menu set for that which had great options and all the food we ordered tasted great. Overall great experience. Would highly recommend.
Truly a disappointment - I decided to dine here for lunch during Restaurant week with a coworker. We had a noon reservation and we sat at 12:10. The restaurant had a normal lunch rush regardless of the special running for the week. We both opted for the 3 course special. We placed our orders about 20 min after arriving.
After waiting nearly an hour and watching tables that sat after use get course after course and eventually their checks - our food arrived. My coworkers entree came out nice, hot and fresh while my steak, potatoes, and asparagus came out ice cold. After waiting an hour for my meal, it should have been completely fresh and not feel like it had been sitting for an hour. We even compared plate temperatures and while her was hot, mine was not.
By the time we were nearing our third course, it was almost 2:00pm and the restaurant rush had died down completely. My coworkers was charged for a higher priced glass of wine than she selected while my “complimentary drink” that I was offered while waiting for my new batch of food was in my tab. My second dish I received was fair.
As a frequent diner at higher end establishments, I was truly disappointed. I was hoping to feature this on my Instagram page but it looks like that idea will be left out in the cold - just like my food. ❄️
We decided to stay in the city after work and meet for a nice meal. Our server, Lisa, was so wonderful. She was so sweet to us and so very accommodating. We didn’t want a huge meal, so we decided to split a steak and share some sides... the creamed corn was amazing with cornbread on top! I also loved the green beans!!! Just the right touch of spice! We finished the dinner off with a dessert trio that was amazing! Some places turn their noses up if you want to share things and Lisa was more than fine with it... she even offered to have the steak sliced for us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Can’t wait to go back!
We came to Red for the first time as one of our stops during restaurant week. We went during the early dinner hour so there weren't a lot of people. The restaurant was quite cold. Some of the people in our party kept their coats on. The service was good but the waiter had no affect which made for an uncomfortable exchange every time he came to the table (weird, I know). Overall, the food was good, the drinks could have been a lot stronger for the price we paid. If I spend $14 on a drink I want to feel like I've actually ingested some alcohol.
A friend and colleague took another colleague and I to RED for dinner to celebrate my recent marriage. This is NYC style and presentation right in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh. The service was superb. Every need was anticipated. They effortlessly accommodate any wish you could have for you dining experience.
The wine list is impressive, as is their bourbon list. The steaks? Absolute heaven. I had the ribeye. It was superbly cooked (medium rare) and accompanied with truffle butter mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and a mushroom dish. It was unbelievable. Finished it with creme brûlée for desert.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Can’t miss spot for a special occasion.
The restaurant ran out of bread at lunchtime (next time send someone to Mancini’s or Prantls?). Server gave us a cookie to share as a substitution (delicious). Had the Greek Salad, but I was not a huge fan of “pickled onions...definitely not Greek!
The filet melted in your mouth; the salmon was spectacular. The décor is very modern; reminiscent of Miami or Las Vegas. Salads were very large; staff was attentive. We were very impressed with the food; everything was delicious and done to perfection. Expensive; everything is ala carte.
We had such a wonderful time at Red. We started with a dozen oysters and shrimp cocktail.... everything was so flavorful and fresh! My boyfriend and I split the Red house salad... so delicious. I ordered the CAB Prime Filet and he had the Prime Ribeye... the best steaks we have ever had! We had a side of Lobster Mac and cheese too! Heaven! Our server, Dennis was so much fun! The management all introduced themselves too! So nice! We will definitely be back!
We went for New Years Eve. The bartenders were super friendly. When we went to our table the waiter was very funny and helpful. The steak was great as were the potatoes and marinated mushrooms. We will definitely go back.
Service was low caliber - one of our servers was just abrupt and rude. Never smiled once and when my friend said she was having trouble hearing and joked she was having a hearing problem he replied rudely “I was wondering. I thought it was just me.” He wasn’t joking - as I said this guy didn’t crack a smile once and seemed to be inconvenienced By having to check on us. By the other server, I was told “Jesus you are killing me like I am not busy on New Year’s Eve” when I asked to sample the wine they were recommending. Really?? Food was pretty good but won’t rush back. We told manager of service issues. I hope this place makes it but they need to be nicer to their guests.
Best steak I've ever had in Pittsburgh...not a regular dining spot for me...a lite too pricey for that, but definitely worth it for New Year's or an occasional trip into town. Service was friendly and attentive, even with a packed house. Bar was comfortable and service was quick, again taking the crowd into account. Steaks for both of us were done perfectly, and the shareable side dishes of mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were delicious takes on some traditional dishes.
Would absolutely go back, hopefully sooner than later.
Red was such a disappointment all around. I do not recommend it at all. The steaks had a strong burnt flavor, despite not actually being burnt. The broccoli tasted deep fried. The pomme frites were soggy. The bar drinks were unimpressive. The meal started out well; the lobster bisque and bread were excellent, but then nothing was remotely enjoyable after that. Further, the lobby was frigid and we had to wait and wait - despite having reservations for 7:00, we were not seated until 7:20, even though we had actually arrived early and there were a couple of empty tables when we went in. I could forgive the wait if the food was better, but it the food was just plain lousy. We won't be back. Definitely pass on this one. Any of the other steakhouses in town are better.
My husband and I went for dinner and it was okay but the poor service turned us off more than anything else. Our server was very slow, disappeared for quite a bit, and was only suggesting the most expensive items on the menu. We ordered the filet and crab legs which took about 40 minutes to arrive. It was cooked well, but there were a few shells in the crab. The mac and cheese side was delicious, but our mushrooms were extremely bland.
One of the best steaks we have had in Pittsburgh. Service did not match the meal though, and while overall no complaints, just not as good as you would expect in having 2 waiters and for the price. The food was outstanding!
Super disappointed. It was below zero defeees outside, and inside the restaurant was very chilly. We asked multiple times if we could get a little heat- repeatedly getting a “this is as warm as it gets”. Next time you walk into a restaurant serving meals over $50 with space heaters - run away. The food was good- but cold to the touch when we received, “bread” was rock hard- literally - check out my yelp video. Two Management members did stop by our table to hear our concerns, but nothing was taken off our bill. We will definelty not be back.
The food here is fabulous. We had the steak tartare and the arugula and proscuitto salad. Both were amazing. Since it is a steakhouse, we had the ribeye and filet. The best either of us have had in a long time. Save room for dessert..we had the donut holes!
We arrived early and had to wait until our reservation time even though the restaurant was not full. They said they were “setting up table”
When seated the table was not completely set, and one of the menus was missing printed paper.
We waited 18 mins for anyone to even acknowledge us or bring water or take a drink order. And again the restaurant was not busy at all.
We asked for a manager and we think one came over but he didn’t ask us what our issue was just brought us water and took our app order.
Overall service was poor. Steak was good, but all other food was terrible (wife’s piece of salmon was pathetic and my lobster tail was not fully cooked). did not feel like I was at a high end steakhouse, as I’ve gotten better more attentive service at outback.... especially at the price point where they are trying to compete. This place can’t compete with the likes of the capital grille or Eddie merlots... although i guess it won’t matter because if there poor performance continues I suspect they will not be in business in this location much longer.
Also, when they called to confirm reservations I told them it was a special occasion (wife’s birthday) and they said they would bring a special dessert to the table... and as you could guess they didn’t.
Thoroughly disappointed... they could never win back my business.
Wasn't impressed with the hostess for this type of restaurant and the price - I expect a friendly greeting as with other restaurants.
The server was fairly good and friendly but had to be reminded that he/she forgot dessert.
Again for these prices, I expect excellent service and friendliness.
Every steak at the table was over cooked. Taste was unanimously less than enjoyable. Service was average for an upscale steakhouse with a near empty restaurant.
Red has potential if they can get the food right. Not today.
Not a very cozy space. The air flow/conditioner/heating duct is right above a suspended, floating ceiling and is extremely loud. The bar is very bland and uninviting. Although our sever David was great, the food was sub par and the wine selection was unimpressive. I can’t foresee this place being here a very long time.
We’ll stick to Capital Grille 😊
