Red, the Steakhouse Cleveland Ratings and Reviews
I had calamari, prime strip steak with bearnaise and asparagus....drank a beer and a glass of red wine...topped it off with some blueberry sorbet...off the charts good. I expected that, I got that, I paid for that...I’ve been to red’s a dozen times...they are 12/12. I’ll do it again.
Business dinner. Went to Red based on recommendations from two friends who frequent the downtown area.
Adam was our server and he was phenomenal! We all ordered steaks for dinner. One of the guys said that it was the best steak he ever had and another customer rated the restaurant as one of the top three meals he had in his life!
I’m certain that the meal was super expensive, but my customers were treated to a very special evening.
It was pretty loud in the restaurant, but I prefer that as opposed to a super quiet room.
Lots of options. Sides to share. Great time had by all! I will definitely return to this fine establishment. Great job by everyone who took care of us.
My brother's 50th birthday. He loves steakhouses and Red fit the bill perfectly. Very well balanced martinis to start. Fried calamari app was the right combo of tender flavorful squid in a crunchy exterior. Arugula salad was sublime! Really peppery fresh arugula in Cleveland in November, and the dressing let it shine! Steaks were cooked perfectly and matched the attentive server's description exactly. Red wines by the glass complemented the steaks and did not break the bank. One brother had cal cab, another a bordeaux, and the third a barbera d'alba. Generous pours meant we were all able to take a tour of some great wine regions for less than $50 total. We ate everything in sight and had no room for dessert. Thanks to the cheery hostesses too!
The staff girs above and beyond the normal call of duty very very attentive to all needs and facets of service and the food as,always was, exceptionally great my compliments to the chef a d his staff they do a great job of expertly preparing the meals which sere delivered, hot and very much so appreciated i love red and am looking forward to the next time I'm pampered and appreciated with there ambiance thanks, red for the start of what turned out to be a great night
(YELP) Came here during restaurant week.
Our experience here was so-so. The food was good. We expected top quality steak given the ratings and price and it was very good. The lone choice for the restaurant week steak was filet medallions. They didn't ask me what temperature I wanted the steak. I normally prefer medium rare but they came back medium. Still, the quality was very good, although not my temperature of choice.
The service, unfortunately, was the worst part of our dining experience and likely the reason we will not come back and choose other options when we feel like spending money on a nice evening. When it came time to order our drinks, my wife asked for a virgin drink (she was pregnant), to which the waitress replied, "we don't have any virgin drinks". I mean I understand if they really don't have virgin cocktails but she should have responded nicer and maybe recommended something or asked my wife what juice she likes. I then told the waitress that I would like a cab, knowing there were many options, I was expecting a recommendation of some sort. She quickly replied "house cab, sounds good", then turned around and swiftly walked away. Very odd and maybe I can chalk it up to her not realizing I wanted a good cab recommendation and was willing to pay for a nice glass of wine. At this point we had the feeling like because we're ordering from the restaurant week menu, we were not wanted or looked like we had no money to spend.
Our desserts were brought out and our waitress didn't ask us if we wanted any coffee or additional drinks. My wife had to flag her down Midway through dessert to ask for coffee. She then forgot to bring the coffee until after she gave us our check. She comped the coffee which I guess was a nice gesture.
Red Steakhouse seems pretty pricey when it isn't restaurant week. We love to eat out and aren't afraid to pay for it. It was underwhelming when it came to service, which is a big deal breaker for us and why we won't be back.
The food was amazing, as always. However it took an hour to get our food. We had not ordered appetizers so it was a ridiculous amount of time to wait for two steaks. Moreover, we were looking to make it to a show and had only allotted an hour and a half for dinner - so we almost missed the opening. I’m all about a leisurely meal but that was too long to wait.
We had a Restaurant Week dinner, which meant smaller and less costly portions. The tomato bisque was delicious. I had filet which was medium rare and flavorful and my husband had a rockfish preparation that was also delicious. The gnocci side was excellent, the fingerling potatoes OK. My Smores brownie was overwhelmingly sweet and I wouldn't have it again.
Our server Jim was terrific, friendly, professional and helpful. I can't eat spicy food and something in the steak preparation was hot. He returned it and I got a new dish without the spicy ingredient very promptly. Jim
Went for restaurant week and was shacked waitress told us regular menu quality much better even though restaurant week was $40 per person. I selected a nice bottle of wine (very over priced) for $50, waitress twice tried to upgrade me to an $80 bottle, really? Was disappointed and will not for go back!
Overall everyone in my group thought it was a good experience. Nobody was unhappy with their steak. They were all fantastic. Our server was solid. He was on the mark and friendly enough. The side dishes warm pretty mediocre for this level of restaurant. We had one order of the sweet potato dish and it was ice cold. We sent it back and we received another one that was hot so that was good but we were all perplexed as to how they could even serve something so cold in the first place. The rest of the sides were OK. The macaroni and cheese seemed to lack something very important; cheese. It was the birthday of one of our members at the table. Our server did a great job bringing out special dessert treats for him and our table. I thought that was fantastic. The steaks were so good it kind of made up for the sides. We were all pretty happy when we left. Not the best experience we’ve ever had but definitely solid. We may try someplace else next year when we’re in Cleveland. If we had to come back here though, I’d be pretty happy.
We were a party of 4, the place was packed (before the GNR concert) and everything was perfect! We all had filets, perfectly cooked. Our server was great and kept things moving, which can’t be easy when everyone needs to leave about the same time. Kudos to the whole staff, especially the kitchen; they really worked hard to get everyone on their way and it couldn’t have been executed any better. Awesome job! Thanks for an awesome dining experience!
The service was fine, the staff general helpful and friendly. We had been told that Red had the best steaks in town. But we found the filet excessively salty, and the fries average. Given the cost, we do not expect to return.
We made reservations to celebrate a 30th anniversary. We had planned to go to a Tribe playoff game, which unfortunately did not happen so had made early reservations and kept that time slot. The place was virtually empty and the hostess sat us in the bar area. We asked if there were other tables and she said no those were for reservations. The food was great and the waiter awesome but it was not the setting we expected at this price point. We were in a loud bar setting, with people in and out for happy hour. The most frustrating thing was upon leaving after appetizers, dinner and dessert, all tables in the regular area were still empty. There are other similar high end steak places in the area with just as good of food with much better ambiance. Perhaps the regular dining area had this as well but I'm not sure how you get the opportunity to sit there.
