Cozy gem in Northeast Minneapolis! It's a perfect place for dinner on a cold winter night. The food and drinks were really good. We went for restaurant week and got the tasting menu and all the items were great.
Normally our experience at the Red Stag is great. Not sure what was going on this time, but waiting over an hour for our entrees is kinda excessive, especially when we didn't get updates from our server. I hope it's better next time
Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know. We sincerely apologize for the lack of service and quality you received. We have addressed your concerns and are better for it! We are striving to win you back, your feedback is much appreciated. We hope to see you again soon!
Great Dinner at Reg Stag...as always! The food is always great (cheese curds rock!), as is the service and the ambiance. Thank you Red Stag1
Thank you for the kind words! Hope to see you again soon!
We always enjoy the Red Stag Supperclub and had a reservation for 7 PM on Feb 9. We arrived on time, they had my name on the list, and we waited to be seated for about 20 minutes. We had our dinner and left around 9:30. While there, Open Table sent me an email saying that Red Stag had cancelled my reservation and that I should contact the restaurant if I had questions. This happened while we are at the restaurant. I saw the email the next day and called Red Stag. The person I talked to said that they don't use Open Table any more, that they now use a different reservation system. So I asked how I was able to make a reservation through Open Table and she didn't know. So I contacted Open Table and they did credit me my dining points. But something is wrong with the communication here.
We sincerely apologize for the overall lack of communication in this transition and appreciate you letting us know! We look forward to seeing you again soon. Our reservations are now available on our website. Thank you again!
Very cold sitting at tables near door. Service was slow, but pleasant.
Excellent food and service. However, according to the restaurant, reservations made through open table are not taken by them. They were very accommodating though, and got a table in no time.
We are ”regulars” for a pre-Guthrie theater night. Food is dependably good and as early diners, we can take advantage of happy hour wine prices. Service on this occasion was a bit slow as there was only one server for many tables. Restaurant was quite chilly but it was just one day after the deep freeze. We like this place for the quality of the food and the potato chips are to die for!
Good food and fun atmosphere. Smoked gouda omelet did include the gouda, however it wasn't smoked. Good nonetheless.
The food and cocktails were outstanding! The Red Stag has all the charm of an old fashioned supper club but is also very up with the times on the best of present-day cuisine.
We usually enjoy Red Stag, but were disappointed this time. We ordered the walleye fish fry. Even thought the server confirmed the fish was walleye, the thickness and texture made it appear to be cod. The fish and fries tasted like they were cooked in old grease. The fish was also overcooked so was mushy.
Great food. Service was nice. Love the decor.
The room was decently loud but we could still visit. Not a big deal though. Service was excellent polite server and order was correct. Was disappointed with the food. We had the burger and while it was decent there are way better burgers out the there. Cheese curds and Mac and cheese were delicious though!
Great food, good value, nice atmosphere. Monday night dinning was quiet, which was good since we were there on business. Free parking in the lot next door was a bonus. Easy access to I35.
Ambiance, decor and staff were great! You feel welcome and warm. The drinks were good and inventive too - but the food just was not good. I appreciated the attempt to change the traditional relish tray by pickling the vegetables. But honestly they were barely pickled. Not impressed. Our table of four ordered the chicken, a steak, the salmon and the beef stroganoff- very different dishes and all were just kind of ok. The steak was very salty. The salmon overdone = dry. The beet noodles in the stroganoff was intriguing but when it came out just tasted like normal noodles and nothing spectacular. The best dish we had was dessert - the bread and chocolate pudding - that was delicious. Perhaps we came on an off night...
Celebrated our anniversary and had an amazing meal. Super fresh and healthy ingredients sourced from local farmers and the carrot cake was soooo amazing too!
It’s lunch on December 31. Lacking holiday decoration. Place nearly empty but service started out less than acceptable. Then became average.
Parking is on street and uses meters so no free parking. Food came a little cold and was not memorable.
I’ve eaten here before and loved it.
Our second visit. Went for a date night and we both enjoyed our food. Our waiter was pleasant and did a great job.
The service was bad and clearly poorly trained (zero knowledge of their wine list). The kitchen was slow (45 minutes for a cup of soup to show up! Which had a giant chunk of chicken skin in it!!!), and the food was over cooked and dry. It was so bad all around that they comped the food, which was appropriate for the situation. Super disappointed. We had heard good things, but even if we consider they were having an off day, we would be very unlikely to go back
Abysmally poor service. Friendly, but inattentive. Too many different people delivering things. Our side of the room was pretty much ignored. Waitress passed by on her way to other end of room, but too far away for us to catch her attention and no one checked our table to see how things were or if we needed anything. Food was so so. The restaurant had been recommended to us and maybe it was an ‘off’ night, but we will not be back again.
It had been a while since we had eaten at the Red Stag, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. The place was a little chilly for our tastes, but we were able to find decent vegetarian options, good drinks, and food that the kids enjoyed. We will not wait so long to eat there again.
We went here with my mother in law and two children, ages 7 and 5. They loved the fish basket, shrimp skewers, fried smelt, shrimp scampi and chocolate flourless cake. Service wasn't very attentive but overall a great meal.
An outstanding evening of food and friends. Every step was on point with an exceptional menu and the speed of service was even better.
I highly recommend this great night out at this great restaurant.
Bonus: Crab Cakes had crab in them ..........enjoy ! The St Germains
Had a great time on a first date at the Red Stag. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were very engaging. I really liked the old fashioned with their house made sour for the splash. We both enjoyed our food- risotto for her and Limousin burger for me.
The gnocchi was great! Service and ambiance were ok. Parking was terrible- there wasn’t valet. Overall- not terrible, not great.
The food was delicious but the service was very slow, despite the restaurant not being all that busy. Had to run our card when our meals were brought so we could leave in time to attend a play.
Great Cheap Date night. Entree was wild rice soup with.. chicken wings? A little interesting combination saying the wait staff didn't give us a spoon or extra plate for the chicken wing bones.. other than that everything tasted great!
Every year my sisters and I do a holiday brunch together . This year we picked Red Stag. I had dine there before, my sister's first time. We enjoyed it. I did make reservations thru open table and when we got there they had us at the bar. Not sure why? The restuarant was not crowded so we did get a nice table.
This was our 2nd time visiting. First time was for HH early on a Friday. It was packed by the time we left at 7:00. Staff seemed overwhelmed behind the bar. 2nd time was for brunch with friends and it was perfect.
Great food, great service! The best cheese curds in the city.
Went to celebrate an engagement with my parents, super fun! The food was FANTASTIC. Service was incredible. Noise level was louder than I expected for a Tuesday night, but still very warm and cozy feeling.
Loved this restaurant. Food, service and ambience were fabulous. Will definitely be back!
On of my favorite spots in the cities. A great place for any occasion. Food was excellent!
There was a bartender off his shift sitting next to us at the bar. He was amazingly helpful and all his recommendations were spot on! The pork chop was outstanding! And the gnocchi was absolutely the comfort food needed on a cold winter night. We will be back again!!
Server fun & friendly as well as everyone else.
Could have used a little more light on/at table & group behind us little loud but obviously enjoying themselves.
We come here for the smelt fries, so good, and the specials are always delicious. Lots of free parking helps make the decision for down town dining choices.
We had a nice dinner at Red Stag. I had the Blue nose fish special which was awesome. My wife had the salmon and the couple we we with had steak and also the Butternut squash gnocchi. We all were very pleased with our choices and the dinners. The food is good and the service was super. Highly recommended.
I don't get out a ton because i have a 3 year old, but this has been my go to for years and it really never disappoints. Have a martini, relax and enjoy the supper club feel.
Frequently chose the Red Stag as a Guthrie pre-theater option. Since we are dining early the sound level is perfect for conversation and the service is very good. The food is consistently excellent; two of us had the roasted salmon with root vegetables and it is one of the best salmon entrees I have ever had. The other two had a pasta dish and a pork chop dish which were also very good. The Red Stag makes the best Sazarac cocktails in the Twin Cities which is another reason to eat at this restaurant. Prices are decent for the quality of the food. Since we have season tickets to the Guthrie is is highly likely we will return for another dinner.
First encounter with food { the bread } was doughy. Severely underbaked? Server too causally "blew " it off
as " kitchen mistake". No offer to bring a new portion. Really surprised, as this seemed out of ordinary for
Red Stag.
Good dinner- manager agreed to help celebrate our guests birthday with a "special" dessert and then no one ever showed up to deliver it and we awkwardly left to have dessert down the road a bit, after waiting for over thirty minutes.
