Red Pony Restaurant
Chef owned and operated, Red Pony changes its menu about six times a year with the intention of keeping ingredients the season’s freshest and the variety of dishes dynamic.
While a great deal of the menu pays homage to the Sophisticated Southern foods Chef Jason McConnell grew up on, you will also see a reflection of his travels, that drive his creativity.

We always have a great experience and the food is excellent and consistent. It's a great place for special occasions and to take out of town guests.
Our food for each course was expertly prepared, plated attractively, and the flavors blended to perfection. Brian and other serving staff provided the right amount of excellent attention.
Great overall experience with incredible food. Highly recommended.
Perfect dinner out. Great ambiance, service and exceptional food. Will definitely go back and highly recommend.
Best experience in Franklin.
Had a great meal at the temporary location of Red Pony. In fact, I liked it more than the original under renovation. Open spaces in historic building and parking in lot behind. Food was creative and fresh. Our server was fantastic - knowledgeable, accommodating, and friendly. A bit loud at end of dinner. but tolerable.
Meal and service was great!!
Great service, food, and ambiance. Parking in the back was also a nice plus in this historic part of town. The beef melts in your mouth. Highly recommend the beef bacon appetizer!
Had a wonderful dinner with excellent service. We had the bacon appetizer and the bread service. For entrees, the tenderloin and the daily special which was a meatloaf. The temporary location is wonderful and our server was knowledgeable and attentive. I wish I could afford to eat here every weekend. Love this restaurant and I’m so glad they continue to thrive.
An unexpected delight. We had been here a few years back and it was good, not great. We gave it another shot, and the dinner was fabulous! The filet with roasted broccolini and barley risotto was about as good as tenderloin can get. I'd definitely eat it again, but now I want to try the ribeye.
We observed other tables get the entire menu explained in detail and our waiter just asked us what we wanted. This was our first experience and we weren’t that impressed. She was great in her service but we felt like an after thought. The building/house/temporary location was beautiful. The food didn’t wow us. We love finding locally sourced creative food restaurants and we just felt with what we had we weren’t impressed. Maybe if the waiter explained more about the menu we would of ordered different.
The Red Pony is an excellent restaurant. Their lamb chops are the best I have had anywhere. The appetizers and side dishes are also really tasty. The servers are knowledgeable, friendly, not overbearing— just the right amount of attentiveness! The atmosphere is very pleasant. I heartily recommend The Red Pony!
Went there for my birthday. The lamb chops were good. The habanero vichyssoise was amazing. I loved the eggplant meatballs. My husband loved the shrimp and grits. We sat in the top floor. Loved the room and atmosphere. It was a bit loud. We had a great waitress. Look forward to going back. As always the craft cocktails were great.
We started with the BLT flatbread. This is amazingly good! The tomatoes are fresh and delicious, the Parmesan aioli is tasty, and the bacon is real, deal bacon. I had the chicken and my wife had the beef. Both were delicious and we swapped plates several times. The staff was great and we really love the temporary location. Wouldn’t mind if this became permanent.
Amazing place! We have been many times for our wedding anniversary. The service and food are always outstanding!
Truly amazing. Did not disappoint! There were 5 of us and everything was spectacular. We got the lamb lollipops, avocado dip and bread trio as appetizers, Mixed Green salads (with pickled onions and olives), and Salmon, Tenderloins, and Chicken as main dishes. All divine! The Austin Hope wine was also 5 star (thanks for the new addition for my home wine list!). Loved it all and will be back. 3 of the guests that live in the area had never been and can't wait to bring their spouses. Excellent experience all around. Only con: Table was a little tight, but they're in the temporary space and it wasn't even noticeable once we settled in to obsess over the food.
Nice restaurant for a date night with quality service & food.
Red Pony is our favorite restaurant. I have numerous food allergies and the chef always makes a meal that is unique, delicious, and one I do not feel deprived while eating as is the case in most restaurants that limit me to a bowl of lettuce and carrots with vinegar for $18. Every meal we have had at the Red Pony has been phenomenal and we go for every birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. Our waitress Heather was also phenomenal at our last visit. We will definitely request to be seated in her area every time we go in the future!
Took some out of town colleagues to dinner, everything was excellent down to the location and meal itself. Everyone raved about the shrimp and grits! Wine selection was top notch too. Will definitely be back.
The Red Pony is one of our favorite restaurants in the Nashville area. Their food is ALWAYS amazing and last night was no exception. Beef Bacon, with Whipped Ricotta? Yes please! Beef Tenderloin, perfectly cooked medium rare, with Barley Risotto and Lemon Butter? Hell yes! A perfect Old Fashioned, with Wild Turkey 101 Rye? Absolutely, as long as it is served over a crystal clear craft ice cube, which it indeed was! I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!
Fabulous all around!! Even in their temporary location it was amazing. Great service…very impressed!
Always consistently wonderful, and the temporary location is fun.
This is a great place for special occasions!! Though the menu is smaller while they are at temporary location - what is on it is top notch. Best bone-in ribeye ever!!!
I’ve certainly enjoyed The Red Pony over the years & this was my first time dining at the temporary location. The food was fresh, seasoned well & flavorful. Looking forward to a return visit mid August among friends, with a surprise birthday dinner party✨🎈
Food was incredible! Service was excellent! Will go again!
Food and Service were excellent. Noise level was a bit much
We loved the new location. Plenty of parking. Easy walking from old location. Food was terrific
The food was unbelievable. It always is, but this time it was exceptional. This experience was enhanced because of our service. Out server was the best I've ever had. He was so knowledgeable about not only the food , but very impressive with his wine advice. And he was so respectful and nice. I will definitely request him for my next visit!!!
Red Pony Restaurant was a great dinner experience. The setting is historic. The Server took the time to explain the history to us as well as go through the menu in detail. Such a special experience and the beef bacon and shrimp and grits were to die for!
Love Red Pony as always but McConnell House was an extra special treat!!
Dinner was excellent, service was exceptional (John was our server and his recommendations were outstanding).
The only complaint was the noise level was high and made hearing difficult frequently, but there were birthday parties and what looked like a bachelorette party, and it was a fun energy overall.
We will be going back again soon, it was a great dinner event.
Food wasn’t my favorite. All had way too much acid including the Abita cake and shrimp and grits. It absolutely spoiled the creamy decadent flavor of both dishes. Our waitress, hostess and staff were great. Beautiful building. Just overdone on acid and seasoning.
Always a great meal and experience!
Some really nice dishes! We enjoyed a few excellent starters and the Ribeye was outstanding. Limited wine list and they were out of the one bottle I chose. Michelle, our server, is always a joy !
A wonderful experience. Shout out to Morgan who answered multiple questions and calls managing a ten person reservation for foodies. Our waiter Scott was very professional and fun. He did a great job. Bravo to the chef. A very interesting menu. The table shared all but one of the appetizers on the menu. Guests enjoyed wagu beef- shrimp and grits - mushroom meatballs etc. our vegetarians and carnivores enjoyed the food immensely. Our only knock on the meal was the Root Beer cake. That didn’t float. Nice ambiance. Certainly a bit on the noisy side. It was great that they offer a corkage option. We definitely look forward to dining @Redpony again. Highly recommended
Our experience at Red Pony was amazing! I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.
Food was fantastic, temporary location is beautiful. Our server was Whitney and she was perfect!
The Red Pony’s temporary location should become permanent. I love the ambiance of the Old Franklin Jail and the history it represents. I couldn’t think of a better place for Franklin’s best restaurant. The separate eating areas on multiple levels makes it perfect for a dinner party of 2 or 20. Thank you for allowing to share.
Excellent service and food but VERY loud in the big room. Hard to hear each other.
Loved the food and service. Outstanding. But it was so LOUD I could not hear the people across from me. But I will be going back.
