Tagine Fine Moroccan Cuisine
I had the best Birthday dinner ever at Red Peony! We had a roomy, round table (party fo 6) upstairs so that everyone could talk to each other and it was easy to eat family style. Even though the room was packed for a Saturday night, the noise level was manageable so we had no trouble with our conversation. Best of all, the food was delicious. I especially recommend the Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Pineapple Fried Rice -- served in half a pineapple! We brought our own wine and were not charged any corkage fee and they also let us serve cupcakes brought in from outside. Very accommodating! Everyone in the party had a fantastic time and I am sure we will al be back, in a group or on our own.
Food was delicious. Extensive menu from dim sum to traditional Chinese cuisine. Will be back.
Very pleased food and service was very good. Will definitely go again
We got the peking duck. It was good, but there are others that are similar in taste.
I wouldn't go out of the way to come here. The food was average Chinese food.
It’s really good food. Who cares about anything else? Go for the soup dumplings and the Peking Duck. Classic NYC Chinese.
My first time to try this place. A good selection of menu, new and clean interior and rather quiet place on the second floor for a large group dinner. It is BYO and we went to a store across the street to buy beer
Service was brusque, although that may be because we were there at 9:30 and the restaurant's chef left at 10pm.
We were seated at 12 noon . Really upset. First the waitress went to the table next to us to take their order, problem was this table came after us , 10 min later. I had to stop her, and say we are ready. She took our order, and it was very simple. Soup dumpling , spring roll and two main, our appetizer came in 15 min,
1 hour later we still did not get our food, the problem was , 5 tables that came after us ( 15 to 20 min ) received, not only their appetizers, their main courses as well !!!! The excuse was , it was busy because of Chinese New Year! That’s is a poor excuse because everyone after us received their food. What really got me upset was, the table behind us that came 30 min after us , received one of the same dish we order!!!! That was unacceptable. The waitress keeps telling us the kitchen has our food, 20 min later still no food, repeated several times, waited 1 hour and 30 min before we walk out and complain to Michelle . And the food still was not ready,
There is lack of coordination between the kitchen and waiters/waitress. How does one table that came after us is serve the same dish we were waiting for!!!!!
Red Peony is a good dining experience in a small, clean, new Chinese restaurant. The food is very good, with ample portion sizes. The service is very friendly, although somewhat inconsistent, as their timing was off at different points in the meal.
Excellent food and service. Wonton soup was excellent as was the Peking duck and the other side dishes we ordered. Hostess/Manager Michelle was so friendly and helpful. She recommended their special dessert which was marvelous!!!
A warm and elegantly inviting atmosphere with a friendly and accommodating staff, Red Peony is a great place to have lunch or dinner. Both of us ordered from the lunch menu and the kitchen accommodated our requests for less heat and less salt. The food is prepared from fresh ingredients and always tasty. This was my third visit to Red Peony and I will continue to be a regular customer.
Dim Sum was very good, better than many places. Entrees were good but nothing special though. Our server forgot to put in one of our dim sum orders and got one of the entree orders incorrect so one person in our party had to wait for their meal. Interior is nice but for some reason they felt it was important to hang some really large pictures resulting in some noisy hammering while we were waiting to order.
We were looking for something quick and delicious, but not too expensive and without a crowd of tourists. A lot to ask, but we found it all at Red Peony! The server was friendly and thorough; she made great recommendations. The food was different from our Chinese restaurants in South Jersey, but delicious!! Highly recommend this place😋
Not noises, amazing food, great service, and will definitely be coming back!
Happy to find Red Peony. We were very pleased with the food we ordered. Little confusion at the outset with my guest being told I wasn't there yet (after my having had several conversations with the front door manager), sent upstairs (where I was not) to look for me, etc. Fortunately, she then saw me.
The venue was accommodating and attentive service from the waiters/ waitress. Peking duck and crab meat soup dumplings was spot on.
Authentic and delicious food (for those of us who recently traveled to China. Servers and manager were hospitible and gracious and took good care of us.
They seated us right away but wanted us to sit downstairs for a party of 5. We told them we wanted to sit away from the door and sat us upstairs which was much nicer. The food was great and quick service.
Great food, great prices, huge portion sizes. And the staff are very friendly and welcoming!
Great dumplings and Peking duck
Delicious food, huge portions and big round tables with comfy chairs. A great spot.
Christmas lunch/dinner was excellent. So much more fun than cooking a turkey. We ordered a lot of Food and are family style. Delicious.
Food was fine but not a real standout. Super packed in like sardines and a child crying the entire meal. Not the restaurants fault or the child’s . Parents should have taken child out until she had calmed down. It’s was 7:30 on Xmas eve. I’m sure the child was over stimulated. Nevertheless, the family was rude for not considering others ability to listen to loud wailing for over an hour.
My only other problem was that there was no alcohol served. I never saw this on the website. I’ll take the blame for that but it’s something to note.
Loved every aspect of my dinner here. Food and service were top notch.
We have been to Red Peony a few times as it’s down the street from our office. The food is quite good, and the restaurant can cater to folks who like Americanized-Chinese food as well as traditional Shanghai cuisine. (We have folks that like both at our organization). The soup dumplings are very good, as is the cold tofu and vegetable appetizer. I personally like the shrimp noodle soup a lot too. Really — you can’t go wrong and the help is always very pleasant (especially Michelle). Enjoy!
Great location and a great restaurant! Very nicely decorated, the food was excellent and the service was great! Would highly recommend it for a nice casual dinner with family and friends!
We celebrated our office Christmas Party in the private room, that was decorated with chandeliers, and golden wallpaper. The food was fresh, high quality Chinese. Everyone loved the soup dumplings and scallion pancakes. Since the restaurant has no liquor license, we brought our own drinks. They didn't even charge a corkage fee.
Delicious food served in a calm atmosphere. Nice decore
Yum! The dumplings were amazing! I mentioned something about the famous dumpling restaurant,
Din Tai Fung, and our waiter’s ears perked up. Red Prony is right on par with DTF. Yummy!
The crispy shredded beef was great too.
This is a very expensive restaurant for inauthentic Chinese food.
I ordered a dish on the menu with two specific additional ingredients. When it arrived it had neither. I asked about it and the waiter insisted they were in there. I tasted it and they were not. I again asked and he said, “oh, you wanted it with black beans and spicy?” I said I did, as it was described on the menu. He said , in a condescending manner, that he would take it back and have it “added.” He was very patronizing after that, constantly asking “how
the dish was now.” The duck tasted as if it had been reheated in the microwave. They do not serve wine, but said you could go a block away and buy it and bring it back. Another woman (presumably the owner) came by and asked how we learned of it. When we answered through Open Table, she said please reserve directly from now on. NOT a 1,000 point quality restaurant
Next time I will plan extra time to take a round-trip subway ride and go to Chinatown for fresh, authentic, reasonably priced Chinese food served by friendly people.
Great food! The chick soup dumplings were so tasty!
Delicious food served hot and quick. Very clean and pretty atmosphere
Bad management. Staff lack of training. Rice was served first without any other dishes. When the dishes arrive, the rice was not warm anymore. This is basic in a Chinese restaurant practice.
Superb food, expertly prepared. Kind and attentive service despite the restaurant being absolutely full.
Highly recommend the snow pea shoots, string beans and duck. If you have a big group, there are lots of large round tables, which are much better for conversation than long rectangular ones.
Delicious! My absolute favorite chinese restaurant. Have visited on two different Saturday nights. The service was very good and the food even better: fresh and delicious. Tables downstairs are too close and upstairs can be energetic. No liquor license yet. None of that matters since the food is so good.
The food was very tasty and the service was great!
Every dish was delicious. The Orange chicken, Orange beef coming beef with onions and pork with garlic sauce were fabulous. The fried rice came in a 1/2 pineapple and was beautiful. The soups were delicious S where the various Spring rolls.
I would rate it higher accept it took 20 minutes for 7 different appetizers to come out and none of us can't or food together. We ask that all of our entrees come at once and they honored that period I don't understand if its the kitchen being disorganized or because it was busy but it was unpleasant to have to wait well each person ate there appetizer Alone. Staff was very pleasant..
Restaurant was very hot when we arrived in at our request they turned on the air. Well the tables and setting are nice come of the lights were extremely bright.
As of November 25th they do not have a liquor license but told us you could bring your own. No beer or wine is available. They have applied for the license but it has been 5 months and they haven't yet received it.
I definitely would go for the food.
Good to see this old place refurbished with a new name. Service was great. Food is good. But price is truly midtown.
Very convenient to have Chinese food in a clean place. Glad opentable reservations accepted.
We were long time patrons of Joe's Shanghai uptown, which has now had its premises taken over by RED PEONY which includes several of the same waiters as well as the same chef. Consequently, the food is excellent with, in fact, a bit more diversity by adding Cantonese dishes to what is otherwise more Mandarin style cooking. The soup dumplings have about five choices to choose from and the giant prawns in chili sauce is as good as one could ever find. Do not forget to taste the shredded spicy crispy beef: yummy! For dessert we had sesame balls with black sesame paste and also pumpkin with red bean filling. We consider this one of New York's top Chinese eateries, so no longer need to go down to Chinatown for Joe's Shanghai on Pell Street; Red Peony uptown will satisfy the most difficult palette. Any problems, ask for Michelle.
We had a deliciously, wonderful dinner!! A birthday celebration. Could not have been better!
