Poor experience. The cocktail drink did not match the description. When I pointed this out the waiter just said sorry but did not make another drink or refund it. In general the service was apathetic.
Food lacked seasoning -- desperately needed salt. Ceviche lacked acid. There was a long piece of hair baked into one of the churros. Will not be returning.
Very disappointed, mostly because I love the Red O in Newport Beach. The service was beyond terrible - not just slow. It was slow and we could never find our waitress to learn what was going on. I ordered the Carnitas, which is my favorite dish at Red O in Newport Beach and it was not close on quality or flavor. I’m not sure why this location is so bad when the other is so good, but definitely a let down.
After celebrating a bachelorette party for my girl friend thus past Sunday, we were recommended to have brunch at Red O in Santa Monica. What a great suggestion it was! I’ve previously dined at Red O for a nice Birthday dinner and had tacos and margaritas on a day at the beach. But this brunch menu was just as good! Mexican inspired dishes. Omg. Unlimited margaritas, mimosas, and sangria for $20! Me and my girls had a blast that day. It was filled with lots of great food selections, champagne, laughter and love. Our waitress surprised the bride to be with a yummy dessert - the butter cake was amazing! With a tropical sauce, warm butter cake and a scoop of coconut ice cream. Wow! Great brunch experience and will come back again! Thanks Red O. :)
Took my boyfriend out for his bday and they made it special. Food was absolutely great... he was so happy about his dinner. At the end they brought him out a birthday dessert which topped the whole date.
Thank you so much for the great experience. We will definitely be back!
View was nice, table arrangement was poorly set - we were sat at a very small wobbly table at first even though many tables were available - asked hostess for table change and she was kind and found us a new table. Server was inattentive, he never introduced himself, ran out of drink. As for the food - the ideas were nice but my food came cold, food was not prepared medium it was very rare. I would not go back for food but I did enjoy the beverage menu.
Service and location were great! Food was sub par. We have experience with the Red O in San Diego. Food was better in San Diego. Based on our experience with both locations, we would say the brand, relative to food, is overpriced. It would be easy to find better value someplace else.
Beach chic ambience. From apps to the main course you won't be disappointed. The menu offers selections for Pescatatians to hearty meat eaters. The lobster and shrimp enchiladas are my personal favorite. There's a unique bone in steak dish large enough to feed two men. Locals should return again and again. While we out of towners long to return on our next visit.
Food was great, they were able to seat us, even though we were really, really, really late. Service was excellent, our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful. We will definitely be back! :)
Worst server ever. Never asked if the food was ok , the drink was missing some ingredients that says on menu , i asked if i can have it, he was legit mad that I had problem with the drink. He would talk to only to my brother, no other female members of family. Either he is sexist, or he just doesnt like all of our kind. The manager of the place was nice, he came and asked “hows everything so far” i said “the server never came to check on us, he straight up doesnt like us Does he” he had no problem standing around his other table and chat for long. Food was expensive including cocktails, i wouldnt pay that much for that quality.
Loud, bright lights, bad food. Nothing redeeming about this restaurant.
Was very nice
Terrible service and terrible manner from waiters
Don’t recommend this restaurant!! Overpriced with what they serve
We were very disappointed with our dinner last night. We have dined at Red O many times and brought friends from out of town there last night. The server was nice but not attentive- we had to ask for our drinks twice before they came. The appetizers were good, the main courses were bland (Carnitas) and the other one had burnt sauce (enchiladas). Our margaritas had so much ice in the small glasses you could barely drink it and can’t get straws in Santa Monica so it made it challenging to drink.
They did take the main dishes off the bill and bring us other food but overall It was a disappointing evening.
The food was good, but the service was terrible. It took forever and the waiter asked us an excessive amount of times if we were ok. He seemed offended when we weren’t enthusiastic every time he asked. It was just a weird experience.
Dining with family with sunset views. Very nice!
It’s was my first time in this restaurant and I absolutely loved it
Will be back soon
Our service was excellent!!! Five star!
The duck taquitos are delicious (but a tad oily). The trio enchiladas were outstanding, especially the short rib.
Hamachi was good.
Butternut squash soup, queso fundido and beet salad...meh.
Butter cake and the tres leches were both delicious.
Appetizers were great. My drink was just OK. Service was EH. Dinner was good. Loved our table and comfy seating!
The restaurant was terribly loud. My husband and I could hardly hear each other. But the food was excellent. One problem with the restaurant setup, that makes it so loud, is that the large bar opens right out to the restaurant. The place looks nice but not fantastic.
Par excellence! Rick Teasta concepts are honest and true to high level Mexican cuisine. From the moment you arrive....
We went for a special though sad family occasion and they were so lovely and warm. The delicious food and drinks and nice ambiance all added to a very good experience.
Food was over cooked, served corn tortillas when I ordered flour and after I told the waiter, he instisted they were flour and would not change them, the front door was open it got cold and the manager refused to close the door even though we were the only customers left, so we got up and left before we were served our desert. We won't go back.
We used to love the West Hollywood location - food, ambience, and especially the restaurant design/decor. Santa Monica falls short in ambience and design; it looks more like bar than restaurant, with lots of high table seating and fewer regular height tables and banquettes. The food is still very good, with more emphasis on steaks and seafood along with unusual and distinctive Mexican offerings.
Even after going to many many of the top restaurants in LA, I can say this was one of the finest experiences I've had, which I was surprised at as I wasn't necessarily looking for a fine dining and service experience - I just happened to be in Santa Monica for an event and had to find somewhere for us to eat. Exceptionally good service, not over the top - just right. Recognized me upon arriving and had a table reserved away from others (as I had a dog). Food was excellent and the happy hour menu was great value - normal menu is slightly over priced but it's worth it. Great for vegetarians and meat eaters. Fish was expertly prepared, as good as any top restaurant in the world. The hosts and people serving were outstanding, but not overbearing. Very accommodating to having a dog - more than any other restaurant I've EVER been to. Really really amazing. Will be back.
Great Ribeye and Tamales - went out of their way to get us our fav table
The manager greeted us upon arrival and seated us. Upon telling him that we had eaten at the Newport Beach Red O, he said that he had previously been a manager there and we spoke about the good times we had there.
When our guests arrived, he showed them to our table and greeted them. He asked if there was a special occasion and I told him that we would be leaving California in the next two weeks and that our guests had never been to a Red O.
The manager, our waiter and the other staff were excellent and made for a great dining experience. I will miss going to the Red O, the experience and food has always been excellent.
Birthday dinner was a delight! The service was great! The lobster and shrimp enchilada was not as good as I remembered it to be. But everyone else enjoyed their meals.
I been to a different location before, but I wanted my best friend to enjoy her visit coming to see me, so I made a reservation here and everyone was very friendly and so welcoming ♥️, our sever was the best made sure everything was ok.. ... and always kept a smile on his face.
Thank you for having us ♥️
The food was very mediocre poor service my expectations to the restaurant was extremely high and was very disappointing
Worst service ever
Excellent food. Lamb chops mole and lobster combo was perfect. Mexican sweet corn side dish was shared and disappeared quickly. Nicole was a great server. First time here but won’t be the last!
Attractive decor, great margaritas, server seemed indifferent, fajitas were good, manager very accommodating on our coupon
Very nice, certainly not your usual Mexican food. Fun to try, but price and what you got weren’t the value I expected.
This restaurant always pleases. The food is delicious and plentiful - no one leaves hungry. The service is excellent as well.
Terrible...Chef Bayless should be embarrassed!
Wonderful service: excellent recommendations and always around without being annoying. Shrimp scampi and seafood enchiladas - they split the enchiladas for us and placed the pasta in the middle ( the little things mean a lot) - were tasty with the right amount of seasoning and spiciness.
The soup (him) and salad (her) were wonderful, the main courses were good but not great. Expensive, and just not worth the price.
One of the best margaritas ever, the "Red O" margarita. Salsa is very good, just the right consistency not to chunky or runny. restraint is right across from the Santa Monica pier, lots to watch and see.
Service was great and the food was delicious. Would definitely go back!
