Excellent food and great atmosphere.
We had an awesome experience. Excellent food and service.... Worth the drive and money... Cole our server is very friendly really good....
Went there for SD Restaurant Week menu. Everything was excellent!
Very nice place to enjoy a private dinner for two. Wonderful food, helpful staff regarding choosing a particular wine for our dinners. Our dinner went on for 2 & 1/2 hours and the staff were attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely go again.
Brought my coworker here for lunch to celebrate her birthday. Such a great atmosphere, great food and great service. We had the best dining experience starting with great service from the valet, the hostess and the servers. Each person we encountered was pleasant And we truly appreciated the birthday surprise for our coworker at the end! That made her day. Thanks Red O!
We really enjoyed the Lobster Benedict. The sauce was a type of Mexican hollandaise that went perfectly with the dish and the potatoes. It had a slight spice to it that was bursting with flavor but didn't hurt my wimpy palate. The only thing I would improve on is the lobster could have been cooked another minute or two. The plate as a whole was outstanding though. I didn't want the flavor to stop. The service was also excellent.
We chose to celebrate out anniversary at Red O and it was the best choice! Our server was absolutely AMAZING!!! We knew the food was good, so the consistency was spot on. They wished ‘Had Anniversary ‘ from the hostess all the way to a free desert!!! Love it!!!
The food was delicious as was the salsa with the chips. I can drink that stuff. Our waitress seemed to disappear on occasions, right when we needed something. Our timing was off.
We can’t wait to go back. Such a beautifully decorated restaurant. The service was impeccable. The food is fabulous, our server Adriana was wonderful. Definitely worth 5 Stars!!!
The lunch menu on the Red O - La Jolla website was not the same as what was given to me and my guest. Not even the picture of the Red O - La Jolla restaurant on it website looked anything liked the actual restaurant. It would be helpful if information about the Red O - La Jolla restaurant would match their website.
Also, it would be extremely helpful if there was a picture of the menu items, so diners can see what they would be ordering. The server did her best to explain what to expect, but it fell short to what I thought would come to the table.
The manager was trying to turn on background music which was very loud. Something was wrong with the sound system because when she tried to turn down the volume, the music shut off. After several attempts, she just didn't play any background music. Thanks goodness. It would have been very difficult to have a conversation talking over the music.
On the plus side, the food was authentic Mexican and prepared very well. The service was spot-on.
Beautiful restaurant with an upscale twist on Mexican cuisine. They have some innovative twists on traditional Mexican drinks, like the horchata cocktail and a tasty version of fideos. The enchiladas were okay, the plate itself was very generously served, but all three of the enchilada sauces were underwhelming in flavor. Tasty chips, salsa and appetizers though would make this an excellent happy hour spot.
Red O never disappoints, especially the spicy margaritas, apps, and entrees...
The service was great - Gavin was very attentive and pleasant. The food was DELICIOUS as well as the signature margaritas!! The churros for dessert were to die for!!! We loved the atmosphere and it was quiet enough in the restaurant to actually carry on a conversation!! Our dinner was a little slow in coming so the manager told us the margaritas were on the house - very nice!!😊. We will definitely be back- we’d like to try lunch and/or brunch next time. Thank you for making our 33rd anniversary celebration so special!!
For the quality and value, the food was on the expensive side. The customer base here is from semi casual to business. The prices should reflect that.
We were a group of 9. The service was attentive, the orders were all correct and the food was good.
We went to Red O to celebrate our wedding anniversary and overall, had a nice time. The restaurant is very nice! The food, however, was a slight disappointment, in my opinion. My husband enjoyed his meal-mariscos chile relleno (he didn’t care for the sauce though). I ordered the shredded chicken tacos, primarily because it came with fried plantains and plantain chips, neither of which was on the plate I was served (nor was the crema). The server was kind enough to bring them after I brought it to her attention. Unfortunately, I had already finished one taco by the time I received the missing items, so I asked to have my leftovers boxed up. When I opened the box to eat the leftovers the next day, NO PLANTAINS! Why would they box up my leftovers, but not throw in the plantains? Not only that, when the server brought me the missing plaintains I had to ask her how they went with the dish (since I didn’t see it how it was meant to be). Just confusing to me why it was so hard to get this particular dish right. It’s going to be a while before we go back, if ever..sadly.
Great venue for a special occasion. Service is superb. The menu is diverse. Food presentation and taste was top of the line. Great wine list too!
Food is great, drinks are amazing.
The restaurant is beautiful inside. The service was speedy and they checked on us often and picked up plates quickly. The food was OUTSTANDING. The valet was fast and they had the car ready after we texted that we were leaving. I would definitely recommend Red O.
Food was delicious! And we very much enjoyed our margaritas.
There was confusion getting seated which I found rookie like Especially Given that I paid 80 bucks for two meals (fish special). I will only go back to this place for their pretty outdoor bar area with couches and comfortable seating
It's an odd place and we went there having never heard of it only because we had gone to a show and it was one of only a few places nearby that would take a 10 p.m. reservation. Our preference would have been to sit in the bar area and there was plenty of open seating there, but the music was so loud there would have been no way to hold a conversation. The menu is decent and has a fair variety, but our server had to spend two minutes explaining it. In my opinion, if a menu requires that much explanation for most diners, it needs to be somehow made either more simple, more clear, or both. Food was decent, but nothing outstanding; service was great. Overall, it felt very much like a chain dining experience.
It was a really enjoyable evening, loved it 😊
Food was very delicious. I ordered the enchiladas suizas vegetarian they were amazing! My husband ordered the cownoy steak with the chipotle sauce and he said it was the best steak he's had no complaints. For dessert we had the tres leches cake it was good. The prices were reasonable. Our server was Cole he was great very attentive and professional he made our anniversary dinner date perfect!
Fantastic food & service!
The ambiance, service, and food are excellent. Having said that, I feel food and specialty drinks are overpriced, particularly the "Mexican" items (tacos, etc). So be prepared for a great, albeit expensive, dining experience. I have been told that happy hour is the time to go to avoid the high prices.
Great food, wonderful service. Beautiful decor. We will be back!
Tim & Shawn we’re excellent and made us feel like valued appreciated customers. Thank you!
Had a wonderful time at Red O...beautiful restaurant and very authentic Mexican...
We ate in the bar area around the fire pits..happy hour...you will probably need to valet
park...$8...I can’t say enough how lovely the decor and good vibes you feel at Red O..
It’s fun for locals and certainly out of town guests would love it...go
Food was very average and service one notch above poor.
Service was excellent. Outdoor seating was quiet and comfortable, Salsa served with the chips was fantastic. However the milanesa chicken torta was flavorless. Everything was fresh and the torta was a torta . After watching Rick Bayless on TV and finally getting to one of his restaurants I was really disappointed that the meal seemed to lack and seasoning whatsoever. They must had hidden even the salt and pepper on the person making my sandwich.
Had a great table under the (fake) tree and I was pleasantly surprised to find this little gem in our backyard. Good service, solid food and nice ambience.
At 11:30 it was easy to be seated with reservations. By noon the noise level was intense. Business lunches going on everywhere. Meals for lunch seemed expensive, but then it was La Jolla. Service was good and the food was good.
Great food, happy hour tacos were good. Braised short rib enchiladas were very nice as well. Beautiful restaurant!
There was something weird floating in one of our water we told the server he didn't know what it was either but he was nice about it and changed it for us and also one of the forks given to us wasn't clean. We came on a day that was not even busy at all there were only a few people there, other than that it was great experience.
Service was slow despite the place being empty. The Newport Beach location is far superior.
We loved our server! So often you go to a fancy restaurant with children and they are ignored. Our server went out of his way to speak to the kids and make sure they had a wonderful meal.
We wanted to try a new place for our date night and were very happy we did. Michael was an awesome server and the food was priced right. Desserts were really good!!
Used to be my favorite place to dine, but I can tell they are trying to save money on dishes and they are different now. For example, tuna tartar which used to be amazing, but now it is more like a seaweed tartar - they almost don’t put tuna there anymore and just fill it up with seaweed. Yellowtail aguachile also changed - some vegetables added to it, it is not as good anymore. I little disappointed with the food. Hopefully they will go back to how they were.
Atmosphere and decor were amazing. They went through alot of effort to make this place look amazing. Great for business dinners and events, but intimate enough for couples and such. Food was very good high end Mexican fare, drinks were an event! Highly recommended!
