   We last visited this pub 18 months ago, what a deterioration. It was a Saturday night and was dead. One young waitress was left to serve us, she was very inexperienced and had no support from other senior staff. We had to wait an excessive amount of time for our food and were told that our starters would be served with our main course. We subsequently cancelled our starters. I was served twice with a luke warm latte, and gave up trying to get a warm coffee. Finally, it took 3 attempts to present a correct bill. This place has gone to the dogs!

   The food was generally of a good standard. The chorizo and potato needed a thicker broth. The chicken was a little flavourless and the puddings and chips were poor. The pork and black bean was excellent though and the burger filled up a teenager. Service was generally good although we had to get our own spoons. Ambience was good.

   My fiancée and I like to visit different Gastropubs in Surrey on our date nights and when we saw the rating for The Red Lion, we figured we’d give it a try. The outside of the building looks like a fairly standard boozer, but when inside, the decor, light, cleanliness and general ambience made us feel instantly comfortable and happy we’d booked. The service was perfect - I believe it was the manager who waited on us - and he literally couldn’t do enough for us, while interacting with us in a personable manner that made us feel very at home. The food was great, and very reasonably priced, with a good selection, served exactly as we’d ordered and with very good flavours. I had the steak and ale pie, and even in ‘higher class’ restaurants, you generally find some gristle, but there was none in this - it was super lean, tender, high quality meat, packed to the very brim of the pie. Delicious. Whilst it’ll likely take us a while to get round to going back, I’d really recommend this place. We had a fab time, and look forward to the next time we visit.

   Great new menu, with lots to choose from and a lovely vibe.. all round a great night out !
