   We regularly travel quite a distance to eat here and have never had anything but superb food. Our grown up sons said this was the best meal they had ever eaten

   From the moment we walked in we felt it was going to be a good experience. The waiting staff were attentive, but not overly so. They were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The food was delightful; the tastes, textures, appearance, quantity were all spot on.

   It has always been a treat to have lunch at The Red Lion, but I notice corners are being cut - butter is not in little pots any more with the red lion logo on top. My artichoke soup was delicious and could not be faulted - imaginative with olives and parmesan cheese; the chicken liver parfait was pleasant but a bit cloying and came with a large slab of toasted brioche - just the one and two thinner piece would have been more delicate, plus there was a lack of sweet jelly or even a spring of watercress. They are good, but if they believe in themselves much more, they will become unbearable. I will go bak but I hope to see an improvement in attitude.

   We had yet another excellent lunch here with friends. Our chateaubriand was excellent. Perfectly cooked. We will be back.

   Had the most delicious tagliatelle with shiitake mushrooms - a memorable lunch in a very cosy setting.

   Went for lunch and very happy with the fixed price menu - lovely chicory, pear, Stilton and walnut salad followed by confit duck leg and then enough room for apple crumble. Will definitely visit again.

   Our midweek was lunch was excellent and the service was charming and good. We all thought that there could have been a few more interesting takes on 'pub food', since the chef is clearly talented and it is a pub after all.
