Sure hope they do re-open here in Eagle Rock, they have been an excellent option for dining out here.
Red Herring is a wonderful, friendly place! We’ll really miss it these next few months while they get their new DTLA location up and running, and will be thrilled when Eagle Rock reopens!
I love this place. The food is great and the location is beautiful. They’re taking a hiatus, but I hope they come right back.
Great Apple pie!
Great food. Good service. A true Eagle Rock treasure.
I was actually very let down by the food. Each dish was sub par. Fish was very fishy, and the risotto was soggy.
Great experience, we enjoyed the Red Herring. Great atmosphere, delicious food and great staff. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a nice place to eat in Eagle Rock.
Got to sit upstairs for the first time. Our server, Alex, was friendly, attentive, and efficient. When full, the room was a tad noisy.
great food on the brunch menu , good selection and well priced
Wonderful selection of fabulous food. Original, absolutely delicious flavors. Attentive chef. Great design. Quiet. You can have a conversation. Perfect.
Food is outstanding, marred only by pretty high noise level and a server who couldn't pay attention to us. But I would certainly return. A great addition to Eagle Rock food scene.
This was my fourth time there and always enjoyed the variety of the offerings. The appetizer selection has so many varieties and flavors, I need to try a different one each time. The food is delicious with flavors that obviously has a creative inspiration. The service is exceptional as well. Must try the desserts as those are off the charts good.
It was my friend’s first time there and he loved everything that was brought to our table. Rebecca and Nina, our servers, were personable and attentive. We had an outstanding dining experience.
Love this place. Second time for Sunday brunch and it was as good as the first. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Upstairs room is just charming.
We ordered the crab cakes, linguini, and burger. All were fine but not great and definitely not worth the price and much better options in the area. Very cute restaurant and friendly service. Might try brunch but probably won’t be back for dinner.
We had a fantastic dinner with friends at Red Herring. Great atmosphere, food and service!
We tried Red Herring as a new restaurant to us. We took a friend to celebrate her birthday. It is a small restaurant with lots of woodwork making it feel warm. The food was great, the staff friendly but professional, and the over all feel was comfort. I look forward to going back sometime soon.
A lovely environment with low level music, great decor and amazing tasting food.
The service was amazing and the food was delicious.
Great casual spot in Eagle Rock with food worth a drive. Enjoyed everything, the chicken and waffles, potato leek soup, broccolini. Adding this place to the rotation!
Loved the sweet potato fritters. We decided to have many appetizers and split one entre. Mac and cheese was fabulous. Wait staff was wonderful allowed us to enjoy the drinks and dinner. What a gem this place is!!!!
Always enjoy Red Herring. Very relaxed and cool ambience inside without being at all pretentious - very warm and welcoming. Food is absolutely delicious
I love my vegies and Red Herring offered many creative presentations, both as starters and as sides. My 3 friends and I split 3 starters, 2 mains and 2 sides and all was fresh, flavorful and interesting. Winde was good too. I will be back!
We very much enjoyed our brunch
Stopped for brunch on way downtown for play at Tabor. Waiter was great - got our order and check and made sure we were out in plenty of time. Food was fabulous. We both had eggs Benedict on a biscuit one with house cured bacon and one with mushrooms. Really really good. Were really busy but still cordial and welcoming. Great place and good value.
I really loved the beet and watercress salad! The risotto was really good as well. Over all dining experience was pleasant, everyone is super polite.
Beautifully arranged. Love the blue couch! Service was great. From the wine to appetizers (Ricotta Toast) then to the main course (Mushroom Risotto) and dessert (Poached Pear in red wine)...it was excellent. I don't think I've had such a delectable experience from start to finish (not since Terroni). My friends and I shall be back to sample the other items in the menu, soon.
Went there for DineLA, so that’s the menu I’m basing it on. It was overall very good.
I went for the dine LA menu - but ended up ordering off the regular menu since the only options for the dine LA were pork, which I don't eat, or a mushroom risotto, which lacks the protein that I need to feel satisfied. We ended up ordering the crabcakes, which were small but delicious, and came with two sauces. The entrees were a cheeseburger, and the fried chicken with waffles. When asked if we could order another side beside French fries, the waiter informed us French fries were the only side dish. The Fried Chicken came with a choice of sides, and we chose broccoli.
The cheeseburger was fine, but combined with the fries was in totality a bit heavy/greasy - a salad or vegetable would have been preferable. The fried chicken was nice and crunchy, if just a tad dry. The ketchup from the fries ended up providing some moisture. The waffles were flavorful, especially with the syrup, but lost appeal after cooling. As for service, we started out strong, but 3/4 through the meal, the waiter just stopped showing up. My iced tea glass sat empty for the last 1/4 of the meal, and it seemed no one noticed. I thought once the table was cleared, I would be offered something, but not. The waiter seemed to go to different tables, but we sat a rather long while waiting for either the check or a dessert menu without acknowledgement. The hostess was kind enough to notice our predicament, and gave us the dessert menu. After perusing the dessert menu we declined a dessert, and she kindly told the waiter. After coming to the table, he gave us the check, without so much as a glance at the empty ice tea glass, or asking if we would like any coffee.
I like trying new restaurants, especially during Dine LA., even if I don't plan to go back to them. Sometimes one gets lucky, and can find a new gem to add to one's restaurant circuit. And sometimes, one finds a restaurant which lets you know your regular ones have more desirable food and service.
I live in West LA, and although I went to college in Eagle Rock, it's a long drive from the Westside. However, DineLA prompted me to check out Red Herring, which turned out nothing like it's name: it's the real deal. Very nice upstairs and downstairs dining, with open windows to the street upstairs, attentive wait staff, inventive food, and all-in-all very nice ambiance, but not stuffy or overly fancy.
Would love to see more vegetarian dishes. Especially for main course
Lunch menu at Newport Restaurant Week was tasteless! Steak was tender with no flavor. Cobbler was too sweet. Just reinforced idea that resort restaurants serve mediocre fare.
Cute place. Appetizers good. Entree way too salty. Even dessert was too salty.
Visited for the first time for their Dine LA menu but I will for sure return. Amazing staff, delicious food, fun ambiance.
Excellent service and great wine suggestions. Servers were quietly efficient and did not interrupt conversation needlessly. Lovely ambiance!
Great food, beautiful upstairs dining area, great service, all around awesome experience.
What a great night we had at Red Herring.
Both the owners checked in and are charming as is the spot. The food was terrific, the ambiance beautiful and cozy at the same time. This will be a go to place for us.
Very good food. Beautiful restaurant and exceptional service.
My partner and I fell in love with this place! Every dish was outstanding, beautiful decor and wallpaper / lighting, and maybe the playlist I’ve ever heard in a restaurant.
