Nestled on the waterfront in Irvington, New York, Red Hat on the River is an American modern bistro serving satisfied diners since 2003. There's hardly a seat in the house that does not offer a spectacular view of the Hudson river. Banquettes and a pewter bar accent the space while the walls of this 100-year old renovated factory building are adorned with WPA-era art evoking a feeling of a turn of the century Parisian bistro. Evolving from a humble bistro on main street to a bustling restaurant on the river with a rooftop bar, Red Hat's commitment to providing the very best experience for their guests has always remained the same. Try the classic menu standards of steak frites, moules frites, country terrine, and the Red Hat burger. Seasonal salads, sandwiches, and seafood entrees round out the menu. The bar offerings of creative craft cocktails, local draft beer, and old world style wines complete the experience. Private events range from corporate dinners to weddings.

My wife and I had a wonderful date night before a concert at Tarrytown Music Hall. We will certainly be back for more dinners in the future. Great outdoor (and indoor) ambiance.

Our luncheon was perfect. The service was perfect and the food was excellent. I don’t know of any place that can measure up to the experience of eating a meal at The Red Hat.

Food was good, ambiance was great, drinks were not so great. Had a pomegranate martini, did not enjoy it. But overall loved the experience

The setting was lovely, with a nice view that created a great first impression. Unfortunately, the food did not match the ambiance. The portions were extremely small the crab cake, which I was told would be a good size, was barely one bite. The salads were fresh but not filling at all. For the price point, we expected something more substantial and satisfying.

The ambiance and the setting on the water are unparalleled. The food is very good, the service is good but very rushed. You sit down and are immediately pressured for a drink order. Before the drinks even arive someone comes to you to want to know what you have decided to eat. The price of draft beer is double what it is elsewhere and they are small glasses. Beware. Drinks are good but expensive and also small. Wine by the glass is not cheap and can be a small pour or a decent one, depending on the day. If you overlook the gouging on drinks and ask to take your time you will have an enjoyable meal.
