Red Hat on the River
The two level, French bistro-inspired eatery is housed in a hundred -year -old factory building that has been transformed to feature an uninterrupted, 180 degree view of the river from the main and loft dining levels. Guests will enjoy the seasonal, Hudson Valley ingredients, as well as French bistro classics. As MH Reed observed in her NY Times review “Red Hat is so close to the river in Irvington that when the wind is up and the waves slap the shore, their icy spray covers the riverside path to the restaurant.”
OUTDOOR DINING - first come first served when weather permits in our late spring/summer season
Had another phenomenal meal for restaurant week! Ordered an appetizer with pate which was exceptional. My girlfriend got mussels for her Entrée, which were absolutely delicious. I ordered a hanger steak with french fries. It was like butter. Had a wonderfully fresh bloody Mary. The key lime pie for dessert was to die for! I’m still dreaming about it. Service was great, loved everything about it.
Bravo! Always on point.
Great place. Very friendly service with great food.
Red Hat gets everything right. It is as close to perfect as a restaurant can be. Prices are reasonable for such a high-end place but it is very popular so you have to book fairly far in advance especially for dinner. We've eaten both dinner and lunch there and I'd say you should book a month in advance for dinner and two to three weeks in advance for lunch. It's totally worth it! They leave nothing to be desired.
We had a great experience. It’s a fun and unique spot. The waterfront views are breathtaking. The staff is lovely. The tuna tartare was good; mussels were delicious. We wouldn’t recommend the smoked salmon blt sandwich. The omelets at the next table looked terrific.
Great restaurant ‘ love the food, the ambience, the service! All top notch-
Definitely will go back
Food and drinks were excellent, service was overall great. Only concern is that two of us arrived a few minutes before the other half of our party. Instead of offering to wait at the bar, the host brought us straight to our table and the waitress hovered around a few times offering drinks. We were definitely feeling like we were going to be rushed, which is not cool especially when you are spending this money. We passively set that straight from the get go and the rest of the evening was perfect. Note to management to address this one point (most people aren’t stupid).
We were seated at a beautiful table by the window. Lovely cool breeze while enjoying an amazing view of the Hudson. Food was delicious with generous portions. One of my favorite places to go!
We were there for lunch. The salad was excellent as s the special omelette. The omelette was cooked as I requested it, soft. Th cappuccino was very good with a double shot but expensive at $7.50.
My sister and I met halfway for each of us - one from NJ and one from LI. Other than locating it, at
first, we were absolutely pleased with the whole experience and wish we lived closer. Our waiter, Matt,
was superb, pleasant, accommodating and patient - we sat quite awhile!
The food was excellent, especially the cold tomato gaspacho. We will try again to meet and recommend
to anyone who is taking a day trip!
We have always enjoyed our meals at Red Hat. The food is great and the wait staff are very attentive. We will be returning
Happy to have finally tried it! All and more
The view and ambiance was amazing. Service was wonderful.
Great view if you can snag a table outside. Inside is noisy downstairs; worse upstairs. Food is good, but I wouldn't recommend Red Hat for the food. I would recommend it for the view, saying that the food is good and the combination of view and food make for a lovely lunch or summer dinner.
a wonderful restaurant, excellent service, lovely view, very pretty ambience, rooftop lounge and delicious food
The food was very good and just a step below excellent. Likewise, the service was attentive but a bit green. We were fortunate to get the first cool evening and a table at the waterside.
I will have to try other entrees but will return before show in Tarrytown.
Perfect summer evening outside table overlooking the Hudson! What more could you ask for?
Great across the board! Service food and ambience all perfect.
Been here a couple of times, for birthday lunches. Adult atmosphere, no pounding, noisy 'music', attentive but not intrusive service. Portions are a little on the light side but the food is delicious.
Always a treat to dine at Red Hat. I live in New York City and always enjoy Red Hat and Irvington
Everything was perfect the day was great the food was fabulous our waitress was great. Looking forward to coming back
I am a huge fan of this restaurant and go there with friends and business associates alike, as well as special occasions. The view is unbeatable, the ambience terrific, and the staff uniformly excellent.
The food is always good, there are some favorites on the menu as well that are fun to revisit, the rooftop bar is fabulous....and the owners are always there to make sure everything runs smoothly and stop for friendly conversation. Its a perfect 10.
We had a lovely lunch outside overlooking the Hudson.
Food was delicious, proportions generous and setting perfect.
Have not been out locally for eons, had a lovely lunch at Red Hat, perfect view, Lunch was excellent, the service perfection. Thank you Red Hat, you never disappoint!
Beautiful setting on the Hudson River! I will definitely return for evening drinks and dinner in the summer. Lunch was great—fresh light salads at a very reasonable price.
This is a great place all year round but especially when the weather permits outdoor dining, The Prince Edward Island mussels are always available and everything on the menu is good.
Thumbs up! Love this restaurant!
All 'round good restaurant lunch and dinner. Beautiful spot on the Hudson. Friendly, professional servers. Interesting, but not outre, menu.
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Led right to table. Food was wonderful. Brought dessert with candle for birthday celebration.
Couldn’t ask for a better celebratory lunch. Recommend highly.
I have been here many times over the years and I have never been disappointed in the menu or the service.
04/23/18 everything was excellent. Food was top quality and perfectly prepared and presented.
I’ve been to Red Hat many time but this visit I brought along 3 friends who had never diner there. Service was attentive and the food was great. It was a wonderful dining experience.
The food at Red Hat never disappoints! The mussels were fabulous and the service excellent!
This was our first visit, and it is definitely a comebacker. The musseks, the pork chop, both excellent.
The menu was creative, the Key Lime pie outstanding.
And the view! Hudson River through and through.
Great location and interior decor. Food and service were both excellent!
Reservations were made and on the button we were escorted to a comfortable table with a view for all 3 of us. We were not rushed, yet there was an appropriate amount of attention given to us. Our food order arrived within a very acceptable time frame despite the crowd.
This was a girl's lunch, got to bring the husbands next time. Loved it !
Great food. Great service. Ended up sitting at bar and had dinner there. Couldn't have gone better.
We had a wonderful evening celebrating our wedding anniversary at Red Hat. Often hard to get a reservation, the rezzie gods shined down upon us and granted a lovely evening of delicious food, friendly service, and a fun atmosphere. The hostess made us feel welcome and the staff all knew it was a special occasion. Everyone was on the same page. The little extra bites, dessert wine, and anniversary note made it a perfect evening.
Didn't see a wine list if there was one. Thought the glasses of wine were rather skimpy for the price. Menu options were somewhat limited although I did enjoy what I ordered. Dessert was overpriced so we went elsewhere.
Red hat serves delicious fine dining dishes in a beautiful setting along the Hudson River!
I've heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and finally checked it out for lunch during restaurant week. During restaurant week all 3 course lunches at participating restaurants are $23.00, not including tax and tip. The food was AMAZING and there was so much left over I had to take it home! Also, I had such a gorgeous view of the Hudson River and my friend seated across from me had her back to the river but was still able to enjoy the view with the mirrors behind me! Brilliant idea!
Met an old friend there for Hudson Valley Restaurant week. We both really enjoyed our meals. HVRW is such a great deal. Will be going back with other friends when spring officially arrives! Cn't wait!
