Red Gum BBQ
Red Gum BBQ uses only free range & grass fed meat and Pitmaster Martin & his crew slowly smoke these with red gum over custom made pits in house daily, to ensure diners get the mouth watering meat they have come to expect from us. The meat is the star but at times its overshadowed by our amazing Southern-style sides & desserts - from cornbread with honey butter, to brisket chili cheese fries, broccoli salad with buttermilk dressing & pumpkin pie. Things Melissa remembers from growing up in the Southern US.
Enjoy the largest selection of Victorian craft beers on tap on the Peninsula - carefully selected to support small brewers and the best and most unique new beers out there. Our wines are Mornington Peninsula's finest.
The place was stunning but the amount of food for the price was shocking.
We spent $150 on food and it basically fed one person.
Meat that came put was 70% fat and no meat.
But regardless its a beautiful place just make sure you order triple the amount of food.
Where do I start......over priced food and drink, small portion size, dry brisket. Will not be return
We recommend for 2 adults to get 3 sides and 3 meats
Red Gum BBQ is our favourite American BBQ restaurant in Melbourne. We have gone to many BBQ places throughout Texas and Red Gum is the most authentic we have found. The venue and staff are great and the food comes quickly and is so tasty! Highly recommend.
Great place with a great atmosphere, service was great. Book in advance as it gets busy, but worth checking it out.
Everything great but the time limit on tge table is unfortunate... we were reminded 15 mins before our time was up that we would need to leave in 15mins. its a shame it made a dent in the experience
Although the food was quite tasty we both found that for the price that we paid we were still hungry even after paying a more than reasonable price for a fair amount of food. We both understand it is probably increased in value due to sourcing the food from a local environment, but in saying that the prices were still quite steep and it was also hard to enjoy the experience when there was 2 of us and we were stuck on the end of a table of 6 others.
I have been before and loved it but was very disappointed this time. There were no beef ribs, no slow cooked pork ribs and no brisket on my brisket chilly cheese fries!
I like the ambiance and the staff were friendly so I would recommend it. But next time I want bbq ribs I’ll be heading to big pig little pig. Sorry.
Beware....this venue is a tin shed, with trestle tables and bench seating. So if comfort and refinement are your thing, this is not the place for you. Food was ordinary. Meat overpowered by sauces and flavors. And expensive, as meat and sides are separate. But a group could find it enjoyable if they like pub level food. Very casual. Thongs and Blundstones welcome.
Food was not as flavorful as we are used to but still had a good time
Hi this was our first time at Red Gum BBQ, i would recommend to a friend. I think for the price you pay for the meat, the serving was small. Everything was delicious but just not enough.
The brisket was great, if a tiny bit dry, and the bbq sauces were good. Ribs were dry and disappointing, smoked sausage was only ok. Sides were ok.
Whole meal for 2 people was $120 including a drink each, which I thought was a bit much. If the total had have been more reasonable @ $80 or so I would have given 4 stars.
The meat was dry, portions small for the price. Generally not a place I would recommend to people i like.
Awesome food and great friendly service. Will return with new friends
Red Gum BBQ is divine. The food is delicious and the service is terrific.
I travel 1 hour, 4-5 times a year to get my hit of brisket and chilli cheese fries. This time I tried the bean salad and it was sublime. The food is sourced locally and the company are very environmentally conscious. Our waitress was so personable and helpful. Thank you Red Gum BBQ. You always deliver exceptional quality!
Food was amazing! Kid friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Amazing food and service! Highly recommend the ribs, brisket and corn bread. Yum!
I enjoyed my birthday at Red Gum thanks to the excellent smoked food presented there. The table was a bit small for 10 adults and the combination of long table and noisy atmosphere made it difficult to communicate - though swopping positions during the meal solved this problem.
The service was average with some difficulties over whether all the booked (sharing) plates had arrived or not. Apparently they were missing staff over the Grand Final weekend!
Expect to park on the roadside due to a small onsite car park.
But in the end the filled tables, noisy surroundings and over spilled car park testified to both the tasty and quality food and friendly, fun atmosphere.
I’d go again if I was in the area.
Our first time visiting and we loved it, great service, yummy food, reasonably priced, modern but quirky surroundings, checked out the meat being smoked and had it explained to us. Was a bit chilly but was pre warned and took a jacket. Overall we had a great day.
Great atmosphere, ambiance and setting. In a old converted shed/warehouse where the meat is smoked in smokers within the shed. Super busy (book ahead) and so many meat and side dishes to choose from. Go with a group of friends so you can try most things on the menu! Recommend!
Too much smoke inside the dining area, too many screaming kids running around and expensive drinks apart from that its good for a feed.
Staff were friendly, professional and knew there menu. Food was really tender and very well presented. My only problem was it was very expensive. Approximately $50+ per person + drinks. But I will be back as I did enjoy the different experience and so did my 16 year old son.
Love coming to Red Gum. Food is fantastic. Brisket and brisket chilli cheese fries are our favourites. Tried the sausage. Loved the spice.
The food and drinks were all great, service was good..
We love Redgum BBQ and have recommended it to all our friends. Its an amazing experience.
I love recommending Red Gum to friends and family and anyone who comes this far south of the city, however on this occasion the service and food was a little disappointing considering the standard I've come to accept here. I'm hoping this was a one off and look forward to my next meal here!
Gorgeous food and great service. The meat was amazing and the home made lemonade was delightful. Go team! :)
Food was so good and still some great options if you want some non meat options! Choc brownie dessert was insane 👌👌👌
Best barbecue I've had in Australia! And that's from an American who's spent lots of time in the South. I loved the food, the beer, and the vibe, and I'll be back very soon.
Definitely try this place👍 The food was great and the atmosphere was enjoyable. Just the place on a warm afternoon in the sun.
over priced. My daughter injured herself at the venue and the manager didn't even bother to come and see if she was ok.
Tiny servings spent $200 and left hungry that’s not including drinks
Meat was very nice but patato chips were overcooked, we couldn't eat.
We really enjoyed our meal at Red Gum! Great service.... we never felt forgotten even though it was busy. Our cocktails were super yummy and season appropriate. The food when it arrived was DELICIOUS! We’ve had some excellent BBQ meat meals in Australia and back home in North America and Red Gum is definitely in the top 3!!
Always have the best feed here, corn bread and pulled pork are the best I've ever eaten!
A popular family spot with plenty of options and friendly atmosphere
Meal was very good, customer service was excellent. Great selection of food and beverage. Eating in such a big hall can be very cold. We found woolly blankets to place over our legs. Noise level was fine probably because we were there first thing in the morning. Great meal and very tasty.
Everything was great except for having to share the table with people who were loud. Makes it hard to enjoy your night when all you can hear is their conversation. Hard to block out when they are in close proximity.
The only issue I would raise was we arrived for a 630pm booking on a Friday and there are already two meals that have ‘run out’ (sausage and the creamy spinach). Really??? It’s Friday night, make more!!!! Service was great, food was excellent and arrived quickly. Definitely will go back, just have enough food to service your menu!!!!!
Pretty disappointed with the service and value for money. Food was okay but nothing special. Service was slow, very drafty where we were sat, and for how much you pay sharing a table with another group is poor. Overall very underwhelming will not be returning.
