Red Gum BBQ
Red Gum BBQ uses only free range & grass fed meat and Pitmaster Martin & his crew slowly smoke these with red gum over custom made pits in house daily, to ensure diners get the mouth watering meat they have come to expect from us. The meat is the star but at times its overshadowed by our amazing Southern-style sides & desserts - from cornbread with honey butter, to brisket chili cheese fries, broccoli salad with buttermilk dressing & pumpkin pie. Things Melissa remembers from growing up in the Southern US.
Enjoy the largest selection of Victorian craft beers on tap on the Peninsula - carefully selected to support small brewers and the best and most unique new beers out there. Our wines are Mornington Peninsula's finest.
Delicious food, good for kids! Staff were great. Thank you. Will come again soon
This was our first time to Red Gum. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Service was excellent , friendly staff. Food was superb. We had the Brisket, Ribs and Pulled Pork. All very good, although I thought the Brisket was outstanding. We also had the Brisket and Jalapeno sausage, Wow sensational. We will be back
Excellent food and service. Could be warmer at nights though
Thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food & watching the food being cooked sitting at the back bench.
We took home the food we couldn’t finish.
Great place hidden away. It’s worth the trip to visit. Don’t forget to book in advance
The atmosphere and service was great. Ibwas so excited for the food but was quite let down.. for 36$ i got about 7 ribs with hardly any meat. And the brisket was two thinly sliced pieces. The coleslaw had minimal taste - couldnt even taste mayo on it . This place could be awesome but 90$ and we left hungry
The food was nice and the service was quick but the pricing is out there. This is maybe a once a year treat but too expensive for anything beyond that; it is akin to fine dining which it isn't.
Excellent service. Wonderful food and drink. Found it very noisy though with lots of children running about. Parents need to have more control.
Our first time to Red Gum BBQ will not be our last. We enjoyed the whole experience as well as the food, and our group connected through the shared platers.
For something different and fun, I recommend you check it out
Staff were very helpful and attentive. Food was delicious and we didn’t have to wait long.
It was a cold day, so I was concerned it would be chilly inside the shed but it was perfectly heated.
Will definitely be visiting again 😍
Service was excellent and wait staff very attentive. Beef Brisket was beautiful and tender and full of flavor, Pork ribs were also yummy. Wanted Pork belly but they had ran out. Sides were a little disappointing, roasted Brussels sprouts on as a special were over roasted, not a fan of the raw broccoli dish, no mention of it being raw on the menu and given it's winter i think blanch at a minimum would be more appropriate. Take off of a Waldorf salad was not too bad just a little disappointed it wasn't stipulated on the menu that the walnuts were coated in a toffee syrup. Wine and beer menu quite good however only had 2 cocktails on the then menu both contain Gin and they ran out of Gin - Such a shame. Venue is well done and comfortable for share table dining.
All in all an experience that had to be done and left with mixed feelings as to whether i will return, a mix of good and not so great experience.
A little noisy on Saturday night. Service was pretty ordinary. Got to 9pm and got the distinct feeling we were inconveniencing the waiter by being there. Second time visitor. Not sure we will return, based on customer service experience.
Excellent BBQ food, variety and service. I would highly recommend.
Amazingly amazing as always the hosts were friendly and helpful, food sooo good, drinks soooo good. Even though youwere busy we were assisted to very well...see you in a month!
I brought 8 others there, and EVERYONE loved it! Need I say more?
Sad that the short ribs were no longer on the menu, however the beef brisket more than made up for it.
When your whole business is based on good BBQ food, you should deliver good BBQ food. The ribs looked a little sad when they arrived and for $36 I expected better. The Chicken wings were soggy and unpleasant. The slaw was good. Not good enough I’m afraid, we won’t be back.
It was an awesome experience we will definitely be back for. The smells of the place were divine and although a fresh night the warmth of the ovens and how popular it is invited you in to enjoy.
Although sign posted locally, it would be exposed alot more with suggestions in neighbouring suburbs.
Thanks once again, a delight!!
Loved the atmosphere and food. I will be back shortly with the rest of the family.
Amazing food and ambience! Beautiful dining area! Will definitely come again.
We loved it! Had a great experience 😊 food was delicious and atmosphere was brilliant
We absolutely love Red Gum BBQ and tell everyone we know! The food is so delicious and full of flavour. Service is great and it's just a fun great place to go with family and friends. Loads of choices of wines and craft beers too. And the kids have a play corner too.
we enjoyed the food very much, but we thought it was over priced for what we received, yes I would recommend it to friends but warn them about the prices, would prefer prober chips rather than fries
Delicious food and great service, my partner has already booked to go back in a couple of weeks
Meat was disappointing and dry. A shame a s that's why we came here. Ambience and venue was nice though.
Delicious American bbq with a good menu selection to choose from. Friendly staff and unique atmosphere with the only constructive comment was we found it odd there was no American beer or spirits and only craft Mornington Peninsula alcohol available, which normally is a good thing but we just thought it kind of ruined the authentic American bbq experience. Will return again though :)
The food was okay, but not amazing. Three slices of brisket and 2 were dry, pulled pork was very dry also. Mac and cheese is very basic cheese-from-a-can type with no crumbed top or spices etc to make it interesting (didn't stop me eating it all though). Chips, corn, ribs and their own branded beer were all okay. I felt that the prices were a little bit higher than I would have expected for the portion sizes but if the meats had been a bit better I wouldn't have minded.
The venue itself is very cold on an autumn evening, they have heaters but only on one side and unfortunately for us we weren't seated on that side. They do provide blankets which is nice, however not as nice as a heater nearby.
Service staff were kind and attentive but not too attentive which I like. The kids corner is well stocked and is great for distracting the little ones.
If u love smoked meat and drinks this is the place for you
As a BBQ establishment the meat choices were very limited
The kids area Desperately needs a spice up. If you claim on your website that there is a kids area, it should be clean with some reasonable toys. I understand it gets a lot of use but all the toys were old and pretty dirty.
Also the chips were cold and not very nice. The prices are premium so you would expect everything to be hot at least.
The food is tasty but quite expensive.
The staff are amazing, super friendly even on a very busy day 👍
Food was excellent,
Service could of been better, plenty of staff but a bit slow in coming round and taking drink orders,
Ordered the beer tasting paddle, it was sitting on the bar for about 10min before it was delivered to the table resulting in the beers having no head.
We booked for 7pm but seemed to be they wanted everyone gone by 9pm and felt a bit rushed, maybe should increase the opening hrs to 10-11pm on a fri and sat night.
Small criticism and the food more than made up it, we will definitely be back.
Food was good and came out very quickly. Unfortunately our waitress wasn't good. Came out and explained how things worked then said she'd bring us some water. Disappeared for about 10 mins then came back and cleared the table. Didn't bother looking at us. I had to go to the bar and ask them to bring us some water. We had also ordered a beer and home made lemonade which she had obviously forgotten. Our food came out before our drinks - took about 20 mins just to get a glass of water, lemonade and a beer!
We returned after loving our first visit her over a year ago. Their standards have really dropped since then. The food was very ordinary & disappointing, not worth the expense at all. We won’t be back.
I never write reviews but i felt the need to write about this place.
I only heard good things about this place however my experience definitely doesn't reflect.
The food came out cold, then after we left myself and my partner had a sore stomach for the rest of the night.
The atmosphere was more like a kids play centre then it was a restaurant. There was another table behind us in which i heard them say a similar thing.
Its also extremely over priced for what you get our dinner for two came to 130 dollars definitely do not see the value. i paid the same amount at the meat and wine co in south bank and got value for money and the meal wasn't cold
The only good thing about the whole night was the one pilsner on the tasting paddle.
Menu is very limited. Definitely needs more choices on the menu. Food is not great. It all comes out cold. Ribs were quite dry and cold when they were served. We have been twice to RGB and on both occasions the meat is cool by the time it is served to your table. Kids area is good, except for the staircase. Older kids made the kids area quite dangerous as they were jumping off the stairs- I am not sure why the staircase is necessary.
Love this place. Great food, great vibe. Super relaxing.
Delicious mouth watering brisket and pork ribs with a range of barbecue sauces. The sides of broccoli salad, mac n cheese, potato salad and corn bread with whipped honey butter were superb. We had a molten goey chocolate brownie with crisp top to share, a brick of heavenly dessert. Warning be very hungry as you will want to eat a lot it’s so good. Best lunch on the peninsula with casual shared seating and kids play area. A bit noisy but it’s a huge warm old shed.
We went for dinner. Some meats were not avail which was disappointing. Waiter was nice. The food is nice but the price is high, so don’t over order, meals come out quick
Great place. Great food. Great service. Was recommended by a friend and certainly didn’t disappoint.
Tasty food, great servings and fun atmosphere! Would def go again!
Great food. Family oriented.
