Red Ginger Dim Sum and Tapas
Enjoyed the food. Everything cooked fresh. But most of the dishes we ordered needed more seasoning. Would still recommend
Our waiter was rude and acted as though serving us was an inconvenience after we chose to not order drinks. Food was average at best.
This used to be my favorite restaurant in Asheville. Unfortunately they have recently switched bun vendors and have had to remove some of their best plates from the menu which is sad.
Love this restaurant!
We went there when it first opened and it wasn’t all that wonderful of an experience, but this visit things are much better. The food was very good and our server was excellent.
However, I lived in Both Manhattan and S.F., and the prices of the dim sum at Red Dragon are way too high.
I think your experience here is a hit or miss determined by who your server is. This was my second visit and I brought two friends who had never experienced Red Ginger before. Our waiter was less than impressive helping us decide what we wanted to select. My first experience here was 100% different. Our server started out our experience by asking if we have ever dined here before. She then went down the menu explaining all of our options and making recommendations based off of popular selections and her most favorite. The second visit, again was completely different, our server seemed to not care if we had never been there before and just wanted us to make our order. I did my best to explain to my friends what I remembered to help them make their selections. If I do decide to come here again I will make it a point to have my server explain everything.
It was my daughter’s 17th birthday and we had dinner. She loved it. The food was amazing. Our favorites were the potstickers and the pork dumplings. The salt and pepper prawns were good, but the dumplings and the bao buns were better. Our server was excellent, and our table had a fun view of the street below us. I would go back if we lived in the area.
(First time at dim sum)
BBQ Pork Bun
Pork Dumpling SS
Yakitori - Chicken
Everything was great and I mean everything. Don’t overthink eating Din Sum because you’re in Asheville and you feel like you need to be at a brewery or southern cafe. You will walk away happy and with just enough room to hit up desert at a trendy spot in the square.
Red Ginger was excellent! My wife and I can’t wait to go back.
Excellent Dim Sum. I haven’t had good Dim Sum in the states. Reminded me of My time in Hong Kong. Next time I’m in Asheville I will definitely go again!
Great, authentic Asian cuisine, and very reasonable!
Great spot for Dim Sum and Asian Styled Tapas.
Loved loved loved!! Pork shanghai style dumplings were amazing ! A must when you would go to this restaurant!
From the Szechuan dumplings to the jalapeño yellowtail the entire meal was phenomenal! It was our first visit to Asheville and we clearly made the right choice for dinner. Even the green beans stood out...needless to say we weren’t able to capture any photos of our food.
All around great. Took visiting friends out and they all raved about how perfect it was!
Make sure you get the pork Shanghai soup dumplings and the green beans
We go here for the food and we are never disappointed.
Absolutely incredible authentic Dim Sum experience
New server (but bartender said there was like "6 new servers" (!) which must be a story in itself), so YMMV. But food was good basically, some items more so than others. Kitchen pacing good. Ambiance okay, nothing special. Need much more staff training out front. In context of top Asheville restos, though, this is not in the top league along with other places like Curate or Plant or Cucina. Maybe just a lack of good Asian restaurants in town...
Very disappointing. The server rushed me, asking me what I wanted to order 30 seconds after he gave me the menu. He kept circling the green bean dish over and over , telling me it was HIS favorite. I asked to be moved to a table. I told them I was not in s hurry.
I ordered summer tapas with mango and shrimp. It was delicious.
The dim sum was over/cooked, as was the fried rice.
The promotion of 'tapas' is a bit confusing but all dishes are freshly prepared and outstanding Chinese cuisine. We opted for multiple small plates and were not disappointed. We will definitely be returning.
Red Ginger is our favorite restaurant. The service is fast (if it is not overcrowded). The food is always wonderful. hot, and reasonably priced. The wait staff is well informed, polite, and many have good senses of humor. The tables are a bit small for all the dishes but they are very good at clearing empty dishes to make room for new ones.
Soup Dumplings are FANTASTIC!!!!
This place was recommended by a good friend. Our service was great, our food was delicious and bought out promptly. My only complaint is that the table next to us was over the top loud, did multiple sake bombs, and were obviously a little too drunk to be in what I thought was a nice restaurant. I most likely will avoid this location in the future.
Love it! You cannot beat the price, food, service and staff.
The Shanghai style dumplings were awesome!
Just ask the wait staff for a “top 5” and you won’t be disappointed!
Great first time experience! Waiter gave some very good suggestions. Our favorite was the Pork Dumplings Shanghai Style!
Third visit, cannot get enough!!! EVERY item has been irresistible.
Biggest repeat favorite: fried dried green beans. Unbearably good! Other favorite: spring rolls, barbecue pork, scallion pancakes. We haver never not loved anything we ate. Limoncello gelato beyond wonderful.
The ordering process is the best - small plates of almost all items, enough for two-four people to share, or one person to hog. Lets LOTS of choices be made, without buckets of leftovers.
Bar and beer choices as excellent as the food.
Service is terrific. Ethan is our regular helper, Stephen when Ethan not on. Any would probably be great!
Best way to order - the placemat is the menu. Circle everyone ‘s selections and give to your server. Food is prepared promptly, so if you want more or to add more, don’t hesitate. All staff know their menu extensively and thoroughly. Trust them!
Note: outside seating is pleasant but heavily (noisily) by motor vehicles, ranging from smartcars to semi’s, cars and motorcycles which seem to have no mufflers, short distance wheel squealing, and booming basses that rattle nearby windows along with your teeth. Conversation is difficult to impossible over the hellacious noise. I can not recommend al fresco at this restaurant. Street parking is rare, but several public lots are nearby (1-2 blocks), reasonably priced, and usually accessible.
Great all-around dining, recommend reservations.
Always excellent! We go at least once a month!
Exceptional food, exceptional service, priced great!
Food comes out so fast!
Disappointed that Dim Sum was not served in the traditional carts. You have to order on the menu. I did not see anything that looked unusual as it does on their website. Maybe if they had the dishes in the cart I would have experimented more. The quality of the food was good - above average. Pork steam buns were better than what I get in other places. They were out of two of the 4 deserts. Atmosphere is very nice and our server was excellent.
Fantastic food - fresh, delicious, sublime. We love Red Ginger - impeccable Chinese!
It’s a popular and busy place and once you eat there you understand why. Everything first rate, top class. Portions for tapas unusually satisfying too. Definitely a can’t miss place in Asheville.
Absolutely delicious and very creative small dishes that me smile with delight.
Interesting mix of asian choices. Prompt and energetic service. Can be noisy but sit inside if that's a problem.
What a great place that combines dim sum, Japanese small plates and tapas! The dim sum can rival those of Chinatown restaurants. Flavorful, well executed, and served fresh! Yu Shang Eggplant and Shanghai Dumplings were superb! Great place for getting together with friends and family. Highly recommend for all to try! We
Red Ginger - great food, very good service, always fun.
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant around! We bring all our visiting friends here and everyone loves it!!
My husband chose Red Ginger on Friday, May 23rd. Thankful he made the reservation through Open Table. Loved our table, our fantastic service and incredible meal! Thank you Carol for being so helpful when asking questions about the menu!
Surprise! I took my daughter for lunch today, may 29th! Same table and lucky to have Carol as our server again. My daughter & I ordered the Bento Box. Mine was grilled chicken & my daughter chose salmon. It was wonderful. A lot of food for the money and it was delicious! Can't wait to return for dinner!
A large group of 10 family members convened at lunch. The wait staff was gracious and offered many suggestions, which all were delicious. We shared 3 portions of 5 different items and left very satisfied. The atmosphere is delightful and would be wonderful for any occasion. Being able to park in the parking garage behind the building was a bonus!
