My husband and I can always count on a good meal and great service at Red Feather. They source local meat and produce and keep the menu fresh, creative and simple. Their menu goes for quality, not quantity. It's small but has an offering across every favorite food group--e.g. trout, lamb, steak, chicken, pasta, vegetarian. Our waiter Bode was a kick in the pants and very knowledgeable about the menu. Reservations usually fill quickly.
We were seated upstairs, which was good due to the noise level downstairs. The wine list was extensive, if you wanted to buy a bottle. Wine by the glass was limited. The server was very accomodating and helpful in ordering. Food was great. Trout for me and steak for my daughter.
Jazz has been a waitress there for awhile. She's not always our waitress but this last time was above what you could hope for. I was going to the restroom to clean it and get warm water to make a bottle for our baby. She saw where i was going and took the bottle from me, put it through their dishwasher and filled it with warm water. All without asking. Most wait staff at any restaurant would need to be asked and usually get a bad look or attitude to go with it. She just saw what i had in my hand and took initiative. So prompt on refills and overall service. The entire staff at red feather are professional but Jazz always stands out. Best mimosas in town as well as many other house special cocktails.
First time visitors - we will definitely be back service from the time we walked in the door and during our dinner was very friendly and fun. Food was really good and large portions. Had too take some home - which was great tasting leftovers. Only negative was we were seated upstairs and it was overly warm - will request downstairs next time. Definitely recommend dining here
The drinks were really great, complex, well balanced-we had the Hop, Sip and a Jump and the Lovelocker both highly recommended and the food was delicious and creative a stand out was the brussel sprout small plate which was plenty for two to share, we're from the NY Metro area and our meal was better or equal to any of the restaurants we've enjoyed there.
Still the best grilled kale salad in town. Red Feather is always spot on with food and drinks. It was absurdly loud tonight and we had a hard time understanding our soft spoken server (and each other at times) but that aside, we had a great time and will be back soon.
The visits to our table by the wait staff were infrequent and ill time. The portions were ridiculously small. The $24.00 halibut fillet was a mere couple of mouthfuls. The accompanying sides were also equally skimpy. The portions on the short rib plate were just as meager.
These should have been represented as appetizers rather than entrees. Had to come home and make some more food to feel like I had dinner.
Red Feather seems to change the menu between our visits and generally the updates have been good. The most recent changes are so disappointing that we will not be returning.
The service and the food were outstanding. Highly recommend the rosemary trout. Amazing! The gnocchi are delicious, very different from traditional. The curry garbanzo is a good start but very heavy. The smoked trout board was spectacular. Definitely highly recommend this place!
My friends and I were in Boise for a tennis postseason event, and I ran across Red Feather in Open Table when I was trying to find a place that could accommodate a large group with little notice. The menu and pics looked good, so we took a chance...and I'm so glad we did! Despite being largely described to me by locals as a great place for drinks, I had my best meal of the weekend there! (And we went to a couple of places highly recommended for food.)
The waitress was friendly and funny, and her recommendations were spot on. I had the trout, on a bed of parsnip puree, and the puree was silky and delightful, and the trout was perfect. Flawless. We also had a few apps for the table, and I ordered the beignets, going in with the knowledge that I wasn't in New Orleans and didn't expect them to be the same. And they weren't, but I was perfectly fine with that. They were still airy and sweet, and devoured in the blink of an eye.
The ambience was cool, and gave a nice downtown vibe. The only downside of the experience was the temperature. We were upstairs tucked into a nook that refused to cool down...and the thermostat behind us raising from 87-91 F in the two hours we were there was a major topic of conversation...and there was definitely a chat had about breaking the plastic to turn it down. It was sweltering, and for people who had already played two hours of tennis in 100+ temps a couple hours prior, it was even worse.
Overall 4.9 stars from me!! I can ignore sweat for an amazing meal and good service.
The food was delicious. The protein portion was good however, the side portion was lacking. Service was poor. The staff was standing around chatting and when we tried to get their attention they acted as if we were an inconvenience. The reason we were trying to get their attention was a chipped glass which cut my husbands lip. They replaced it with another chipped glass and attitude.
Sorry - these people think they are gifts to the restaurant business. Your food is ok, your service is mediocre and turn on the AC when it is over 90 and you sit people upstairs - my wife nearly passed out! We served ourselves refilling our water glasses twice as much as the wait staff!
Food is absolutely delicious. I was entertaining out of town guests. They loved the ambiance and kind service. I was particularly moved by the fact that the restaurant has warm, fuzzy blankets for patrons outside on the patio. It was a unusually chilly morning in June. The children were kept warm and entertained as the watched the outside farmers market. And the parents enjoyed a relaxed meal. Such a fantastic restaurant!
We ate there for Saturday brunch with 4 adults and 4 kids. The booster seats and high chair were waiting for us at our table and the waiter was very friendly. This place is great for families and nice dinners out. The short rib hash was very tasty and the Oatmeal soufflé was quite original. Yum!
