Red Door Woodfired Grill - Leawood Ratings and Reviews
Came for restaurant week because according to the menu, there was a brunch. They should let you know this location does not have brunch. Along with us walking out, we watched 4 other tables do the same. We love this place, just disappointed, expecting brunch with our reservations.
The Red Door Woodfired Grill - Leawood, is very loud.
The food was fantastic, with great flavors and large portion sizes.
I would say, you should not go to this restaurant if you are in a hurry to get to another event such as a movie or other engagement. The service and overall tempo is slow and laid back. There were long delays between courses of our meal.
We went during restaurant week, but not intentionally seeking out a participating place. We were a little early for the dinner crowd, but they came and filled the place up during our time there, and while things got busy the nose was never overwhelming. The service was attentive and cheerful. We happened to be dining without our children tonight but we were happy to see plenty of families enjoying meals there.
My husband ordered from the regular menu (the classic cheeseburger and fries) and I ordered from the restaurant week selections (fried calamari, prime rib with makes potatoes and toast, and a pecan bar). The food was cooked and presented with skill and flair without being too fussy. The pecan bar sealed the deal for this to become a great special occasion option for our family.
I was disappointed from the start, I had made reservations and when I got there they tried to seat us in the bar area, during an NFL playoff game, it was not what I expected. We had to wait for tables to open up in the dining. Odd thing occurred during our meal, my wife had ordered one of the cheese burgers that we had heard so much about, the burger came out without cheese and when it was brought to the servers attention instead of taking the burger back to the kitchen to be corrected he brought her a piece of cheese, seemed really odd to me. Overall disappointing based on the reviews of our friends.
The reason I gave service only a "fair" rating is because it took a while for our waitress to come to our table and get the process of getting drinks and ordering food started. Once she got all of our orders taken, service was very good. This is not the first time this has happened at Red Door. It is restaurant week, which makes it quite busy for those restaurants involved. So, I don't know if there was enough staff on at the time or what the issue was. Food is always good and portions are very good for the money.
On New Year’s Day we decided to frequent the Red Door in Leawood, KS for a quick bite of dinner (5pm). We had eaten there 3-4 times before but today’s experience was quite different. The temperature outside ranged from -8 in the morning to +9 degrees at dinner time. After we were seated, we noticed that it was uncomfortably cold inside and according to the staff, their heat had not worked all day. Bartenders and Staff were working in coats and apologizing to everyone. Our waitress said,” If you think it is cold in here now, you should have been here for lunch.” What few customers that were there were wearing their coats as well and voicing their disappointment. Great example of VERY POOR decision making by a Manager/Owner to be open in the hopes that they may regain heat at some point. I guess that making a small amount of money is more important to these folks than being concerned about their customer’s and staff’s comfort and experience. Frankly, if they can’t make a good decision regarding something as obvious as this, what else don’t they care about? IMHO - There are too many great restaurants and grills in the Leawood/Overland Park area to take a chance on returning to this place in the future.
I have been a fan of Red Door Grill
for a long time. My favorite is the grilled salmon salad-I recently tried the fish tacos with shrimp (they were recommended by a friend) and they were really tasty. I love the flatbread pizza-I always get that when I am there for the awesome happy hour. I am most excited that they built one by my house at 159th and Antioch and there will be outside seating.
I was looking forward to celebrating my sister’s birthday at The Red Door. My food was overly spicy and I ate 3 bites. Instead of the waitress asking if I’d like another menu choice, she asked if I’d like a “to go” box. I wanted to catch up with my sister, so I decided to just let the food issue go. But our waitress, Ginger, would not leave us alone, and we felt extremely rushed. Question after question—even asking if the ice level in our drinks was okay. She referred to us as “Girlies” and called my sister “Lovey.” The dining experience was disappointing, and I will not be recommending this restaurant.
We had an OK dining experience at Red Door/Leawood. I ordered a Gin & Tonic. The Gin was flat but not undrinkable. Our server DID offer to replace the drink, but it was not necessary.
I ordered the dry rub wings, but the server came back to tell me that they were out of the dry rub wings.
The food was very good and the service was great too!
The Food was terrible, service average and it felt like we were being hurried to turn the table. The chicken was greasy but over cooked. Steaks were also over cooked. Sides were not good. Mashed potatoes had obviously been left under a heat lamp and had a gummy texture and the green beans were grilled and some were burnt and some were underdone. We will not go back.
