Recipe, A Neighborhood Kitchen
A Michelin starred level experience. Let’s just say Recipe is remarkable. The food is creative without being ridiculous and the execution from the kitchen is flawless. If you believe the mark of a true master chef is the ability to cook a chicken, order it at Recipe and experience culinary genius.
Love Recipe. Just wish I lived closer! The food and service never disappoints!
It’s always fun at Recipe; Paul’s cookin’ is great, Miles the waiter is efficient, fun and interesting and we usually see our industry friends there.
This was far from our first time visiting Recipe, and our high expectations were fully met.
Chef Paul clearly pays scrupulous attention to both ingredients and preparation, and
the results show on the plates. Both the starters and the main courses were memorable
culinary experiences. Recipe remains our favorite Newberg spot.
Our server was awesome, very personable and had good suggestions but I remember now why we stopped going to Recipe. The food may be priced based on its quality, but the portion sizes are tiny. I got a wagyu steak for 31.00, it was 6 small bites and I was done. The Cavatappi (spelling?) pasta was fresh, someone took their time making and rolling those, and the Parmesan broth was fantastic but it was a small bowl of pasta and broth for 22.00??? If I hadn't ordered dessert, I would've left there hungry. I'm sorry Recipe. I congratulate your rise from the ashes (literally) but unless the portion sizes change or the cost drops, we won't be back. P.S. Bring back Diet Coke.
Really good food and excellent service. Terrific accommodation for my egg allergy on special dinner for two.
Just keeps getting better and better, and it was great to begin with. Excellent food, service, and wine.
Outstanding restaurant in Oregon Wine Country. Always great service and farm to table menu from a talented executive chef - owner, this is one of our all time favorites for dinner and now lunch again!
Very innovative and talented kitchen. Great, personable staff. The Peasant Salad was outstanding. I found the Ravioli good. Small but interesting wine list.
The service was excellent, though a couple of the servers were fairly new and inexperienced, which is to be expected with any new employees. Service staff was attentive but didn't feel like they were "lurking". I thought the entrees were well thought out and the beef filet was perfectly cooked. Excellent wine selection also, I will be coming back again.
The food was great and the service even better? We will definitely be back.
One of the best dining experiences in wine country.
Loved our wedding dinner at Recipe- we will definitely be back!!
This is probably one of the nicest restaurants we've been to since moving to Sherwood, Oregon. The house is beautifully done, and the small menu offers enough variety without being huge. We appreciated the chef coming out on multiple occasions to bring dishes out. Our waiter actually apologized as we left that he was a little short, which he was. The price point was on par with the quality of the dishes. Their pommes frites looked amazing, I'd love to see a steak-frites with them, I'd go all the time!
Food was good, but a bit pricey for the quantity. The selection could have been a little bigger.
Valentines Day! We love this restaurant and hadn’t been in since they reopened in there old/ new location. Really beautiful and was as wonderful as we remembered... we WILL be back!!!
We ate dinner on Valentines day so the place was full. Inspite of the full house service was excellent. She had a cocktail that she described as one of the best... Meletti based and whipped. We shared appetizers and salad. The wild boar terrine was perfectly spiced to accent the balance of fat and meat. Delicious balance of tangy-pork and pepper. The large green winter salad was more than enough for two and the balance of bitter and mild greens accented by the light oil and vinaigrette. Her entree of seared scallops while delicious was pedestrian in flavor. Basic bay scallops while cooked perfectly lacked imagination of a complimentary sauce. My spaghetti and meatballs were divine. The three meatballs of wild boar were complemented by a superb fresh tomato based sauce... that while just slightly sweet embodied the full fresh tomato flavor... Topped with spaghetti squash.
The service was good. Very friendly. The building is beautiful and the ambiance is great. I wasn’t crazy about the food. I felt it was over priced for the portions and the taste.
This was our second time back at the original location after they reopened. They continue to step up their game as a top Newberg restaurant. I enjoyed the trout while my husband had the duck special and praised it highly. Our companions shared the trout and the beef and also loved it. We shared several desserts, all yummy. I had some trout skin to take home to my dogs, and one of the desserts leftovers went home with our friends. The servers kept our to-go bags elsewhere so they wouldn't clutter our table until we were ready to go. A class Act!
This was a fabulous Anniversary dinner! Ambiance, Atmosphere and Food were superb! Seasonal Menu was spot on!
We truly love the Recipe and the newly remodeled dining experience. The service is outstanding! The dining room was quite noisy this time as there was a large group celebrating a birthday. The food choices are excellent and delicious. The portions are a little small for the price. Overall we are thrilled to have this restaurant in our neighborhood!
fabulous meal! Can't say enough good things about our experience! So glad your open again...
First visit since they have reopened. Fantastic from start to finish. Will be back again with friends soon and look forward to spring when the outside patio opens.
Great day that Started with a library tasting at Torii Mor. Followed by tastings at Chehalem, Et Fillle, Artisan and Bravero. Bought what we liked and then had dinner at Recipe. Such a good meal and excellent service. The steak was perfect and desert was too. Perfect topper for a great day.
Wonderful dining experience! Service was great; attentive, but not hovering. Glad they are open again.
Love this restaurant, I have yet to be disappointed, the decor, food, staff and ambience are all great
Great food, great service! The ambience was warm and inviting. The menu was varied and offered great choices for the adventurous or the timid palate. We will definitely visit again
The meal was fabulous! The friendliness was great as always and of course we always seem to run into friends.
The service was impeccable and the staff friendly. The food was delicious but limited, I thought. Our son ordered the salmon, which was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu and the piece of salmon he got was incredibly SMALL! I don't think it was much bigger than 1" x 1" x 4". He ate it in about four bites! It was well-prepared but hardly worth the $33 price. I was excited to try the restaurant after finding out it had reopened after the fire. However, I found it dark and austere and rather chilly in atmosphere, at least upstairs, where we were seated. Maybe it's cozier downstairs? Just didn't see many traces of the lovely old Victorian building. Other than maybe dropping in for lunch or coffee with friends, i don't think I will consider going there again. For the cost of the dinner for the four of us, I don't think it was worth it.
Greta food, atmosphere and service!
Very noisy. Nothing specific, but everything was sub-par to expectations and price. Much better options in wine country for the same price.
I really wanted to praise this restaurant. But sadly it's a bistro that thinks it is fine dining establishment. The soup of the day was swapped out by 6:30. The staff didn't seem to know how to proceed with any promoted upcoming events. The menu was nothing that hasn't been seen on the food scene over the last 20 years but is priced as though it thinks it is a cuisine innovator. Soggy crisp dessert offering and cold coffee. (Not to mention a highly pretentious wine list) Perhaps mine was simply the table of the evening where things didn't go well. I'll try it once more but it must improve.
Lovely restaurant, great food and service!
Always enjoy Recipe. Glad they are open again. A little self salt in meals.
Sommelier & service were pretty good, food was above average.
Newly remodeled venue which is very tastefully done. Great service and Broad choices for entrees and calamari was best ever! I had a seafood stew and guest had salmon and both of us loved our meal. I’ve heard pork tenderloin and beef for 2 was outstanding as well. Very good house wine and they were open to sharing the large soup without additional charges. We will be back!
What a wonderful dining experience! Service was great- attentive, but not hovering. We chose the duck pate appetizer- wonderful presentation- served with thin walnut bread crostini, prunes, and a frisée salad. Mouth watering to say the least. I had the Wagu tenderloin with Demi glaze, and baby bok Choy. Cooked to a perfect medium rare. My husband chose the pork tenderloin which was wonderful as well. We split a side of polenta- with fried sage and cheese. We’ll be back!!!
Fist time back after re-opening. Food was excellent at very reasonable prices. No problem with the actual service, which was fine, but our waiter, and several members of the staff, had a level of professionalism was more closely suited to a Denny’s than a mid-range eatery. Perhaps inexperience? Bottom line, we will still go back.
Always outstanding a true gem in the heart of wine country. Chef Paul and his staff spot on every time
Went for our anniversary. Really outstanding food and service.
