Rec Pier Chop House
Please visit our website for our Pre-fixe menus that will served on holidays.
Not only did they not acknowledge the special occasion, we waited 15 minutes for a reservation,
First my water glass was chipped. Scraped my lip !
The waitress was good but very busy and not as attentive as other times dining at the Rec Pier.
The Caesar Salad seasoning was off, too garlicky and runny. Only ate 1/4 of the salad.
The Ragu (Bolognese) pasta didn't live up to previous tastings. The penne noodles were stuck together and the sauce was too thick and lacking the usual good taste. Returned 1/2 the serving.
Great food & amazing service!!! Can’t say enough about how attentive the staff was & how great the food was. Really a wonderful place. It’s a beautiful restaurant with amazing interior design. Only down side- we were at a table for four and could not hear one another. It was a gorgeous square table- just too loud a restaurant & table makes you too far away from one another to lean in & hear one another.
Not much to say other than, one (1) of the best restaurants anywhere! It's a must "go".
My meal came out incorrectly,
I had brunch there on Sunday with my family. The food was delicious and the staff was courteous and professional. Terrific ambiance.
All great, except unnecessary delay in seating due to table change, which started the evening off wrong. But the service and food turned things around. Style was a bit snobby overall, but great food and service. Pricing on the high side.
Lots of fun!
Food was extraordinary. Erica our server was attentive and recommendations. Will definitely return next time we are Baltimore.
Another outstanding meal and service that we had. Steaks were amazing, and the cocktails were outstanding!
The restaurant is a beautiful space, with thoughtful decor and an engaging street view. Our brunch server was pleasant but she was not attentive. A runner delivered our appetizer but we had to wait for her to return a few minutes later, as we were not given any side plates. Our entrees were also delivered by runners and we had to wait for hertz return to ask for hot sauce and refill our waters. The restaurant was not busy. Our food was warm, but not hot. This has been my second experience with not receiving hot food here. I ordered the shrimp diavolo, and it was much better my first time having it. This time, it truly lacked flavor and seasoning. I had to add a good amount of salt before it tasted how I remembered it. I also had to add a good amount of salt to my side order of polenta—which was a surprisingly small portion for a $7 charge, knowing polenta is not an expensive ingredient. The service and food do not justify the prices they charge.
Atmosphere is very cool and the wait staff very courteous. The menu is fairly limited and is geared toward directing you toward a over-priced steak. The appetizers, especially the Caesar salad, were outstanding and our entrees were very good. The drinks are very pricey, but good. The practice of charging al carte for sides and even steak toppings is annoying and unnecessary. My advice would be to broaden the menu a little bit and stop trying to imitate clip joints like Ruth Crist. The atmosphere and good food will make this a go-to special occasion destination.
We were extremely disappointed! We had been here before and it was both my wife's, my daughter's and my birthdays! So i picked the Chop House as a special place! What a mistake!
First, the restaurant if beautiful. The street parking is impossible and the valet parking is outrageous ($20.00) considering the location!
I put down that it was our birthdays on Open Table and my daughter called during the day to tell the restaurant that it was our birthdays.
First, no one recognized our birthdays.
Second, the waiter seemed to avoid us (we are NOT a raucous party).
Third my wife and I asked for our steaks to be "pink on the inside" so that there would be no confusion about "medium".
We were a party of four. Two meals came out okay. My meal as well as my wife's came out raw! So we sent it back. It took 15+ minutes to reheat the steak, it was now burned on the outside and it came after the others had finished! NO apologies. No one asked if our steak was okay, just dumped at our seats and walked away.
I must note that our wine steward, April, was nice and very knowledgeable.
Not the way to be treated at a high end restaurant!
Won't come back or recommend it to others!
Every staff person beginning with the valet was attentive and welcoming. Informative and enthusiastic about their product & serving their customer. The staff was available but not intrusive. The food was outstanding! Creative preparation artfully presented using quality ingredients. I ordered the poached halibut and my husband ordered the stuffed meatball pasta. We shared two sides and enjoyed every bite (regrettably leaving no room for dessert)! We toured the property ending our evening outdoors at the infinity pool patio. The music and vistas were sensational. We look forward to coming back!
This is my third time. Not sure why I keep repeating the same mistake. The food is just consistently sub-par. We ordered salads yesterday that came out sad and pathetic. A $19 salad with chicken included a tiny bit of greens on 1/3 of the plate and a de-boned flavorless chicken leg. The salad with tuna was similarly lame.
It's a shame the food is so bad because the space is nicely done. Service was good.
We had the best service and the most wonderful meal! The ambiance is fantastic!!
Got a burned steak and no one came by to make it right. This was after I received the wrong beer which no one made right. I ended up eating charred steak—I can still taste the char. Then when I received the bill I had an item that I didn’t order—they fixed that.
The food was very bad, the service was very bad. Recommend you find another place. Zero stars for an overpriced, nasty meal.
Waiters who give long speeches explaining every unwanted detail of a dish ought to be prepared to bring out what was ordered the first time. With each successive course, we had to ask for missing items. It is rude, pure and simple, to start clearing the table before all guests are finished with the course. When the table is cleared between courses, resetting the table with silverware without having to ask would be a nice touch. A fork loaded with food held in the hand of a guest is a good clue that they are not finished. When a guest asks if it is possible to have a side dish of pasta, it should not turn into a high-pressure attempt at upselling an entire additional main to be shared by the table. When a credit card is displayed on top of the check folder, it is helpful to collect it and run the card before the card reaches its expiry date. Overall we received very good but not outstanding food, however the service was amateurish and not befitting the locale. Our tab ran about $245 for two for starters, two steaks, sides, dessert, and espresso but no alcohol. Not a particularly good value.
My husband and I were there to celebrate his birthday. Italian chop house was a great selection for us because he loves steaks and I love pasta. The ambiance is stunning. It wasn’t crowded and we were able to sit right up front at the glass wall and watch the people go by. The service was also top notch. There were several people coming back and forth at the table but it wasn’t intrusive at all. Our server was very knowledgeable and attentive.
The food was just meh. My pasta with crab meat came out lukewarm and didn’t have much flavor. My husband thought the crab was a bit mushy. His NY strip was cooked to the right temp with a char broil on the outside but honestly, didn’t have much flavor. We both thought those expensive steaks from Wegman’s we cooked on our backyard grill were more tender and flavorful. I wish I wanted to go back but at such a high price point, I am not sure we will.
We were celebrating my wife’s birthday with our daughter and had an excellent meal. The employees were all so very friendly and attentive to our needs. This is a special place and they made my wife’s birthday extremely enjoyable.
Having been to this restaurant several times, we've noticed a significant drop off in terms of food and service over our last two visits. A hot appetizer arrived five minutes before a cold appetizer, and our pasta courses were brought out immediately after our appetizers were cleared. My impression is that the pasta had been made too soon and left to sit in the kitchen before serving.
In addition, the appetizer menu has been reduced to a small number of dishes, some with questionable pricing - $16 for a caesar salad? And while my tomato and burrata appetizer was huge, my wife's octopus portion was small. There's an overall feel that the restaurant is just going through the motions. In the two years that we've been going, there have been zero changes made to the five pasta dishes and there were no non-menu specials the night that we were there.
it's a shame because the space is so beautiful, but I can't help but feel that the restaurant is catering more to the hotel guests and patrons who do not live in Baltimore. For for what you pay for dinner, you expect to have a higher level dining experience overall.
Inattentive service; limited menu; for the money- expected much more
Great vibe great food great service
Summary is: Food was good, people were nice, but service was so bad it was comical. We ordered 2 apps, and 2 dishes, and a steak to share. They brought the apps and then the steak. Then they wrapped our remaining steak and put it on the table while we waited over an hour for the other two dishes. They kept apologizing and brought us little things, but by the time the food came we were really done eating. They offered free dessert, but of course we really didn't want dessert - but had a couple to try. My wife ordered coffee with dessert. Coffee never came. Then after asking, coffee came well after dessert, in a paper cup. Waiter left so quickly didnt have cream or sugar. Then said they'd wrap the rest of our other two dishes, but when we got home we realized they never did. I don't know what was going on at Pendry that night, but things were not running right in many regards. I sent an email directly to Pendry explaining the night (thought someone would want to know) but they never responded. Not what I was expecting for a $450 meal.
We had a party of three on a Wednesday night. The place was not busy.
Ordered two crab cake appetizers to split between three people. Waiter got order wrong and only brought one. It turned out to be fine since the portion was larger than we expected. This is not a traditional Baltimore crab cake, however. It was more like crab dip that could just hold the shape of a cake. So things got off to a rough start, but we figured it would get better.
For the main course, two of us decided to share the $135 Porterhouse for two, medium rare. Our third person ordered the spaghetti with meatballs. The next problem was that the steak came out before the pasta. Since they slice it, it was easy to tell that it was medium well instead of medium rare, and it was cold to boot. I don't know why it made it out of the kitchen in the first place. We sent it back (the first time that I have done that in a very long time). Ten minutes later, the pasta arrived, well before the new steak. Once the new steak arrived, it didn't come with sauce that we had ordered, but it was prepared correctly. It was good but not at the level of the best steak places in New York. Pasta was good.
The manager was very apologetic and reduced our bill, so amends were made. Still, I have to wonder that they could make so many mistakes on a slow night. Given the price point, it was pretty disappointing.
Food was delicious. Service was friendly, informative, prompt, and made the evening feel very special. What a treasure this place is!!
The staff was outstanding, food incredible, & ambiance captivating and dynamic. I love this place and hope the quality continues. This is my third visit and the overall experience has been consistently great. Thanks immensely to the entire Team.
Great place for a business meeting or a nice personal dinner.
Amazing food, drinks, service and ambiance. I would definitely come back and recommend.
This was our second trip to Rec Pier Chop House. Our first visit was excellent, but we were a bit disappointed this time. The whipped ricotta cheese appetizer was fantastic, as were our cocktails. My wife & I shared the orchietti and I had the trout as my entree. Both were delicious. My wife had the filet, which was ok. Unfortunately, the gorgonzola sauce did not come out with the filet, neither did our broccolini. We had to wait 5 minutes after our entrees were presented to us to receive the accompaniments. We took home the leftovers, and the gorgonzola sauce was missing.
Our server was nice, but seemed inexperienced. She had to come back to our table twice to ensure she was inputting our order into the computer system correctly. While I am glad she wanted to get it right, I'd have thought she wouldn't have needed to come back twice. We also had to wait a while to get our check.
When you're paying very top dollar for a meal, you expect more than we received.
We went here for dinner. Our initial welcome was warm and inviting. Then our server told us “we have a lot of big parties, please have your appetizer and entrees ready when you order”. This was a bit off putting because it made us feel as if our reservation and meal were less important. It was our anniversary and we had been very excited. Our food eventually came but we had to flag down a different Waiter 3x to get our water cups refilled and to get dessert menus and order. We felt forgotten and frustrated. Another waiter noticed and told the manager who provided us with comped dessert and coffee but by then I was tired from feeling frustrated. We had expected a relaxed meal with prime service. It tarnished the excitement of our special dinner. We will not be returning. For the price of the meal, the food wAs good but our enjoyment was sorely lacking. We had a reservation too, we’re not walk ins.
Excellent service. Great food. Unbelievable atmosphere. I will be back.
They were very concerned about us getting the menu dirty. They didn’t want to allow us to order appetizers for the table until we had the entire order picked out, very strange. They kept picking up food that we hadn’t finished eating, and they tried to deliver the wrong entrees to each of us, which even chain restaurants get that right. I was shocked, the food was fair but the server I’ve left a little to be desired. I think we must have gotten a new server, she was trying to dictate to us how we were going to experience the evening meal. My $50 steak was missing the sauce accompaniment and I didn’t bother asking for it as I am sure it would have taken 20 minutes to get it. We ordered coffee and it took 20 minutes to get, they stated they had to brew a pot for us.
I wouldn’t go back.
Waiters, had (2) could have been a little be more accommodating. Asked for a basket of bread twice upon arrival, finally got it when appetizers arrived. Beautiful restaurant and ambience setting is amazing.
Server service was a bit slow. We were not in a rush so it was acceptable. The food was very good with tons of flavor.
The soups, salads and sides were delicious. However, the ribeye which was ordered medium rare was tough and hard to chew. Couldn’t even eat half of it. The manager did take it off the check and was totally professional.
Multiple visits here—always enjoy. Wonderful setting with excellent service. Promptly seated upon arrival and greeted by friendly server. Not a complaint as restaurant can certainly set prices however they wish but $21 for a cheeseburger and fries is a bit much for a casual lunch in Baltimore.
Very special experience .... worth a visit .... great for special occasions
