Ray's on the River Ratings and Reviews
I made reservations the day of the dinner and was happily seated next to the window. It was a lovely date night with great service and food. We ordered off of both the daily specials (clams), and the regular dinner menu (salmon). Our side dish was forgotten, but brought out immediately after we mentioned it to our waitress. The only thing we noticed was the food was a bit salty for our taste, but we don't cook at home with extra salt. I had some leftovers which were nicely packed up for us and enjoyed the next day.
Our server (Derrick) was outstanding. The food was absolutely excellent, with steaks cooked perfectly. And the scallops - wow! Most restaurants ruin scallops by overcooking them, but Ray's prepared them exactly the way I like.
This restaurant is pricey, very pricey. But in this case I feel we absolutely got what we paid for. It was a first-rate experience.
One of the valet parking attendant came racing through the parking lot in his own personal car swerving around other gas getting out of their vehicles he almost hit the van shuttling the restaurant employees and then he raced to the top of the parking lot open the doors to his car and dance. The food was not of the quality I had remembered from previous visits to the restaurant. The waiter did not get our drink order correct and my date ask for coffee at the end of our dinner and he never brought it but he kept coming over to ask for the check.
We care a lot about where we dine and what we eat. I've been to Ray's for brunch before but this was our first dinner outing. Loved it! Our servers were highly attentive without being too much so. Pace of the meal was just right/ Nice wine selections. Oh, and the food was spot-on delish!
Ray's is a fabulous place the have a birthday dinner. Ray's staff is the best I have ever experienced. Starting with the auto valet, the greeter and then the wait staff, ALL WERE VERY VERY GOOD! The server was always near to assist, but never hovered us. I look forward to have another wonderful experience at Ray's
I would NEVER come back here.
This was my 4th visit at this restaurant, and Service is less impressive inch by inch every time I come here.
Went in to celebrate birthday. specified its a birthday in reservation and even confirmed the wait staff who asked whose birthday it was. We were seated in front of river as requested. restaurant wasn't busy at all like less than half full. To be fair, Wait staff wasn't rude at all, but they failed to fill in our fantasies. Ordered few selections off menu, they were out of few things so they came back telling us we can't order few things. which was totally acceptable. Meal, we ordered grouper and salmon, they came out just okay. 32-36 dollar for a small piece of grilled fish, big scoop of mashed potato and a EXTRA well-done asparagus as a garnish on top. It was tiny portion, but hey I didn't came in here to get filled I came in to get nice service. We ordered dessert, and when I find out there was not a single candle, or a little scribble of chocolate syrup. or a complimentary "Happy Birthday" or anything, I just couldn't believe I paid around 100 dollar for a 2 piece of fish and a scoop of mash potato. I got tempted to tip them horribly (like a dollar to make sure staff gets the message) but Wife told me to just be nice that she is okay.
Honestly, I was not okay with the service I have received. They were on point making our special occasion nothing more than a simple, ordinary take-out dinner.
Honestly, I don't blame the wait staff. sure they failed to make our day special, but it wasn't their job. I blame management for failing to creating a standard high enough to justify for higher food price which should include cost of high-end service.
Unless you are coming to Rays for just casual weekday dinner with your golf buddy,
Just go to Canoe. they got the same scenic river front view and they costs about the same, but Team at Canoe knows how to make your special day special.
I would have given this review all stars. However, upon arrival the blonde hostess on Friday Dec 1st evening was extremely rude to my mother and I. We have been coming to this location for over 15 years.... this girl told us very quickly so we could barely hear her that because we had "torn jeans we would be seated in the cocktail section" I looked at her and told her no, we do not have torn jeans (we've been coming here for YEARS and have not once had anyone tell us this... not to mention meanwhile men are walking by us in sweats, torn up khakis and of course, jeans) she then peered over the hostess stand and stared down my mother and I... mind you, we were celebrating me getting a new job (was written into the notes when I made the reservation) this was a VERY special night. she put an extremely sour taste in our mouth. We LOVE Rays on the River... but we do not appreciate some girl telling us how we are dressed, which she clearly didnt even look.. because nowhere on our pants were there any tears or torn areas. This put quite the damper on the first part of the evening with y'all, we always dress appropriately when coming here, the valet parks her car right up front and again, we have been coming here for over 15 years... We are loyal to this restaurant, and do not appreciate being treated poorly when we are trying to come (DRESSED APPROPRIATELY - even though she clearly didnt look properly) and trying to celebrate a momentous occasion. The food was good - steak was a little over cooked and for oscar style - not much oscar toppings considering. cocktails amazing and all other service fantastic.
What a great find. The food was excellent, the service superb!
Can you say quiet? While the restaurant wasn't that busy, there was a group of 10 behind us and another group of 15 a few feet away, and you'd never know.
Great view of the water, even at night and the decor was extremely rich and inviting.
We were seated quickly as we entered Ray's and when a table was open at the window we asked to take that seat - but was told it was reserved - I should have noted that request when I booked the reservation. I did note that it was my birthday and was offered a 'roses' vase for $34.99 or so which I did not purchase. The wine Story Brook Chardonnay (I think) was perfect with my salmon and husband's grouper dishes. Very flavorful and filling. However, I truly believed I would receive a slice of cake like the table next to us with a candle - but maybe that was included with the flowers or a specially priced addition I overlooked.....I personally did not care for the Christmas music since it was only 11/26 - as many clients may not celebrate Christmas. Could have been turned down a notch so we could talk across the table better.
Overall, the food was fabulous and our waiter very attentiive.
All of the employees were very friendly and courteous. Our waiter Miles was very attentive and knowledgeable. One of the patrons came up to us as we were leaving and asked how we enjoyed the meal. We struck up a conversation while we waited for our vehicles.
From the attentive Valet where my vehicle was parked free of charge to the Duo that served our drinks and made certain everything was up to par to the enormous selection of extremely appetizing food selections we thoroughly enjoyed our most recent visit to Ray's On The River. Thank you for bringing back the selection of food and service that we have become accustomed to.
Food was just ok. Plus they ran out of corn and the waitress did not say anything, instead brought out a mini side of corn. Only revealed they were out and that was the reason for the small side when i asked for corn as well. Charged for full price of sharable corn
Sometimes ‘pricey’ is well worth the money. Ray’s On The River is that place. The setting is awesome with views of the river (and even at night, the lights reflecting across the river are great). But the food is amazing. My wife and I were celebrating special occasions. Without doubt, our dinner was perfect. And I mean every single bite was perfect.
Service was above average, meaning we did not get interrupted but also didn’t wait if we needed anything. In fact the only thing that would make Ray’s any better would be to lower the prices on their wine list. I have no problem paying double retail or even double plus at a fine restaurant but three to four times retail is borderline an insult.

Hope you are well. I am emailing you to advise you of the service my family was given on Saturday 11/25. We were seated around 6:35-pm (party of six). We were not acknowledge by a waiter until around 6:45. Our waiter was Tim. Once we were greeted, our waters were filled and we were told he would be back to get our drink orders. It was 7:05 when he came back to take our drink orders. At that time, Tim asked if we wanted any appetizers and we advised we would also like to give our dinner order. He seemed frustrated by this. After taking our order we were finally served one basket of bread for a (party of six) so we requested another basket of bread. Appetizers came out after that, which were great as always, and the second basket of bread came out. After around fifteen minutes the staff came and took the appetizer plates and our small plates and silverware leaving us nothing to eat the bread on and to spread butter on the bread. Dinner came out shortly after which was great. Last but not least my wife asked for the praline/fruit desert to go. Tim stated (IMPOSSIBLE) as there is ice cream with the desert. My wife advised that we had always taken the desert to go and to put the ice cream in a small container.
I am not trying to get anyone in trouble but wanted you to know about this poor service and bad experience. My wife and I visit Ray's at least twice a year for our anniversary and her birthday and have never had this kind of experience. I did not ask to speak to a manager after the experience as I just wanted to have a good night as this was my wife's birthday dinner.
I expect top notch service when I come to Ray's and spend the amount of money I do for the food. I should add that it was not a busy evening either.
