This place is absolutely fantastic, especially if you hit on Friday night for the LACMA Jazz Happy Hour. The food is excellent and the service for as loud and hectic is top notch. Alisa is definitely the Hostess with the Mostest, and we have had Carmen take care of us several times as our Server and she's wonderful.
If you live local, this is a must see place and you can hit LACMA or walk the grounds as well.
I've come here multiple times. Especially since I used to live around the corner. Its a nice date place. But the one thing I have noticed is how inconsistent both the service and the drinks are. My last visit the hostess was very welcoming, but the waiter was so rude that it makes me question not returning. In addition, the drinks are pricey but usually worth it. However, on this last visit, our first round of drinks were so pretty in presentation and tasty. But the second round of the exact same drinks were so sloppy and unattractive. Its fun for a visit, but the regularity of my visits are definitely on the decline.
Lovely atmosphere and ample seating. Unique tables with lovely windows and access to the museum. But the waiter pushed water on us like it was going out of style and brought bottles that were not ordered. Multiple requests for bread and condiments arrived as everyone was finishing their lunch. Food is fun, organic and original.
The only reason I can't give Ray's food 5 stars is because the kitchen was too heavy-handed on the salt in a couple of the dishes. Other than that, I can't fault the preparation or presentation, which was beautiful. Service was too slow, considering the fact that the place wasn't that busy, but the young wait staff were all very polite. My hangar steak was cooked to perfection and delicious. I will give Ray's another try, for sure.
Last year, service was so bad it was laughable. We thought we were being punked. I told my friend what happened last year and exactly the same thing happened this time. Soon after we sat down we ordered drinks. Several minutes later we ordered our meal. Then we waited, waited, waited. Since our waiter was nowhere to be seen, I asked a passing busboy to ask our waiter about our drinks. A few minutes later our food arrived. A few minutes after our food arrived, our drinks arrived. The waiter gave the exact same excuse as last year—the bar is very busy. Funny or sad? Suggestion: hire adequate staff.
My children took me here for dinner after seeing David Hockney as a birthday treat. Rays is very special to us and we love to celebrate special occasions there. The food is unique, the atmosphere upscale without being snooty and the staff very accommodating.
Always a great LA scene on Friday Jazz nights at LACMA. Bring a bottle of wine and save a ton - $20 corkage fee. Service was pretty bad. But when you're sitting outside listening to music and chatting with friends, who cares if you have to wait a little while to order, etc? The cheese plate was awesome and so was the cauliflower.
A really lovely time at Ray's. We were there for dinner before a film showing at LACMA. Chris was our server, and he was great. Took really good care of us. This is a great restaurant, not just a "cafeteria" at a museum.
Excellent food and service. Our server Edgar was knowledge about the whole menu and was able to help us decide what to order. We decided to eat first before going around the museum and the Manager JP knows a lot about the exhibits in the museum and what to look forward to in the next coming weeks. Totally loved the atmosphere, food, service and everything about Ray's.
Food hit the spot. Service excellent. Atmosphere really relaxing and pleasant on a really hot day.
Reserved a table for a friendly get-together on Jazz Friday at LACMA. Very pleasant, and the drinks well-made.
The menu is too limited. Needs an entree salad in the menu.
Beautiful day, we sat inside since it was kinda hot. Came for the aglio di olio pizza which didn’t disappoint
Amazing food, great service. Thanks to our server Carmen
Went on a Friday summer night when LACMA has Live Jazz bands performing. It’s always enjoyable being outdoors in great weather and with live music! Friday jazz night is a busier night, so I recommend making reservations. The food was very good, but they are smaller plates, so you may need to order a 2nd item (I think the menu might differ on Friday Jazz night, or in the patio area?? Not sure) The drinks were good, but I couldn’t really tell if there was any alcohol in it. 2 drinks, 2 dishes was about $100 (includes tip). I’d go back for the experience and food.
This place is consistently wonderful! As the restaurant within the LA County Museum of Art complex, the food here is a work of art too. There are as many seats outdoors as indoors. The outdoors is fun for people watching, as visitors explore the museum. The indoors is a delight because it's quiet enough to have a genuine conversation without distractions. (Full disclosure: I'm an author. I use this place to interview subject-matter-experts, so I value the quiet ambiance.) It's a stylish place with an unusual menu, lots of sunlight, and a warm, helpful staff.
Overall a great meal. Service was decent. Food was good.
We were visiting LACMA so Ray's was convenient for an early dinner. We arrived early for our reservation, and were seated promptly on the patio. The hostess moved an umbrella for shade. The service was friendly. The people-watching was entertaining. The food was average to good. We ordered beers, the wagyu burgers and shared shoestring fries. Warning: The burger is very messy and requires eating with a knife and fork.
Service and specialty cocktails were excellent. Great start to a visit to the museum.
The pizza Bianca was incredible!! Service was fantastic too b
Best wagyu beef burger with grilled onions
Food was great to share. Wine was delish. Came for the jazz that we didn’t like but restaurant was great.
Fun dining place for including in your museum visit. Food is creative and tasty and served in a lovely ambience by helpful, friendly. waitpeople .
Not busy at that hour.
Chang elf menu disappointing.
Food ordered, cheeseburger and fetching were terrible.
The perfect place for a nice lunch or dinner when visiting LACMA.
Menu ordinary nothing special.
What happened to the original menu from years ago which used to be creative and delicious. I have been waiting for its return for years! I only dine here because of convenience when visiting museum. That’s a sad statement.....
Location location location. This places has Great indoor and outdoor setting on the grounds of LACMA!
Great place to go with your kids and even better you visit the LACMA since you are there already!!
The salads were very interesting and attractively presented. The pizza was good. However the service was rather haphazard and inattentive. After we placed our order there was a long wait and the server did not come back to get our wine order. Everything arrived at once rather than in courses, even though we said that we were attending a lecture the food took so long that we ended. Up in a time bind and had to rush our meal. Service jas been an ongoing issue at this restaurant.
The creative presentation adds to the meal. Three of us shared four salads- a perfect lunch choice.
Great service, excellent drinks, and a killer burger!
Very nice day to sit outside.
Relaxing setting with delicious food.
Try the Brussel sprouts - wow!
No complaints - always a geat time.
I LOVE THIS PLACE. Every time I come here the menu has changed, and it's always something creative. This time my lunch was a cauliflower and grain dish and it was scrumptious while my two friends had the salmon toast and loved it. The drinks are also refreshing and tasty. Can't wait to return.
If you want to have a sit down meal at LACMA, this is it. My husband and I shared the mushroom pizza and the tuna tartare, which were very good, if a bit overpriced because of the setting. I was very surprised that the place was so shabby and I was turned off by the dirty industrial carpeting. We asked for tap water and it was served without ice. The service was good. I would return because there are no good alternatives at LACMA and as I said, the food was good.
medium quality food. too sweet onions on a medium rare burger. was not asked how well cooked I wanted the burger. next time I am in LACMA I think I will eat before hand
This was a great place to meet friends and tie it to an event at the LACMA. Good food, service and people watching.
The fire alarm siren went off for almost 40 minutes. And because the ovens went down I could not get salmon. But the waiter was wonderful and her honesty and professionalism kept us there for pizza and salad, which was very good. She gave us a complimentary desert too!
Three of us went for lunch after an art lecture- we go to Ray’s and Stark quite often and are never disappointed. The servers, manager, bus people and maitre D are all so pleasant and friendly. The food is delicious as are the cocktails. You can’t go wrong having a meal at this restaurant.
Place is great locale especially for jazz. Food is good but inconsistent. Small portions for the price.
Serve staff is friendly. Greeting staff is so so
The food was delicious and interesting. There was no irritating music to compete with conversation.
