Have dined twice. Once a la carte lunch and once buffet. Excellent food and experience both times.
Rasoi's lunch buffet may be Washington's best kept dining secret. The buffet changes daily and offers a generous array of vegetarian selections along with several meat dishes. Unlike some buffets, each dish is unique in flavor, color & texture with varying levels of heat, and they're all delicious. I love finishing off with the fresh fruit salad after sampling the tasty main courses.
Their kulfi was wonderful! Their service was even better
Delicious and friendly. Totally hit the spot!
Staff was excellent. Food was tasty. Portions were just right
Attentive service. The food was pretty good but not great. The tables are close together so it is a bit noisy.
This place has the best food! You will not go away hungry! Service was great and the ambience was even better! Would highly recommend this to all my friends for any occasion!
It was our first time at Rasoi, which had been recommended by a friend, and we thoroughly enjoyed the great food and service and will definitely go back!
Each meat was over cooked
Good food, nice contact with the owner. The spices are very subtile, and some of them are very soft if you are afraid of eating something too spicy. But if you like spicy food, you'll find it also ! We spent a cool evening, very relaxed.
The vegetable samosas were to my satisfaction. I was delighted to have their butter chicken. I asked for spice level 6/10 (medium) and was totally satisfied with the outcome.
It is very conveniently located and has plenty of seats for a circle of friends. The food was not great unfortunately - my tandoori chicken and naan were kind of dry.
If I were to go there again, I will definitely order something else.
This is a very bad restaurant. Very rude and unruly owner. They charged my 3 year old twins full buffet price each. They hardly took a bite of anything. Very bad restaurant. Bad quality food. You will feel disappointed and sad after your visit to this place. Don’t ever waste your time and money.
We came to Rasoi for my daughter's birthday. As a vegan, it can be difficult to find good dining options, but Rasoi was a great experience. The food was very good, I'd say that on the same level as Rasika, where finding a reservation is usually very difficult. The lady who welcomed me defines customer service. I am thinking she must be the owner or similar. Her smile and warmth sure beat anyplace else's service. I told her about my vegan birthday girl and she said she would be aware of that throughout the dinner. In the end, as there were no vegan desserts, she brought a cute bowl of melon with a candle. Our food was amazing and, if you think you're good on spicy food, do try their vindaloo. Outstanding! A great night was had by all, and we enjoyed the welcoming service and conversation.
Excellent customer service! The host is very personable.
The worst indian restaurant in this world, the people were super rude/rascist. They kept serving water and checking on the Caucasian customers and belittling us. More than that, the food was uncooked and unwanted. It might sound too extreme but this restaurant deserves to be shut down.
Pretty disappointed... Lunch buffet wasn't so tasty, and the food wasn't very warm. One plate of food was plenty. No refurnds for us!
My self run and own a business,i never write a review about other business.but i am writing about this place, this place need to be close down. we walked in to the restaurant and owner was arguing with family which came to dine in and they walked out.well thats not the issue. we could not find the table in good rated indian restaurants in surrounding area they were all booked up until 9:30pm and we had 3 years old who was very hungry, so despite of bed rating we choose this place for dine. we should have assumed when we saw only 2 table were occupied when the other restaurants don't have tables till 9:30. food were microwave warm, no fresh cooked. my self cook better food then this restaurant does. this place is ruining the name of indian cuisine. i felt bad about those non indian people seating in the restaurant assuming this what indian food taste. when in reality street vendor in india also make lot better food. for god sake for the name of india you should close this down.
I've been to Rasoi for dinner a number of times and always really enjoyed the food. It's on par price-wise with what I would expect for an Indian restaurant in DC and they serve very sizable portions. For 3 people, we ordered 3 entrees and 2 baskets of naan and took home plenty of delicious leftovers! It's usually pretty quiet during dinner time - never had trouble getting a table. On my most recent visit I asked for a dish that I didn't see listed in the menu and they were happy to make it for me.
While they do validate garage parking, there is still a $5 charge and we got a little lost coming out of the garage after parking. Seems like it would be much easier to street park at a meter and probably more cost effective.
The food at this restaurant was outstanding and the manager very friendly. We enjoyed it very much!
I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, since I’d never heard of it before and I work in the area. The food was very good and authentic!
Food is not at all good and very expensive. For everything, they are just adding cashew mix.
Rasoi has been my go-to restaurant for years. I can't say enough about the quality of the food and the friendly and welcoming environment. An intimate meal or a many member meal fits well at Rasoi. Food is authentic and delicious!
The service was beyond deplorable. And they make victims through false advertising. Beware!
Refused to accept a valid Groupon after 2 of us each purchased $15+ entrees because the manager said the $24 three-course meal didn't qualify as an "entree". Despite the fact nowhere on the menu is the term "entree" listed. And despite the fact the supposedly non-qualifying meal was twice the cost of a regular entree. We were also given the wrong dish, and were duped into ordering it in the first place.
In addition, the restaurant was understaffed on a Saturday night despite being at about a quarter capacity. The single server/bartender/host/waiter/busboy/manager/pickpocket/owner on duty was too busy devising ways to swindle customers out of hard-earned money to bother providing knowledgeable, efficient service.
Very tasty food, fast service, nice staff, reasonable price.
Don't go here for dinner if you are looking to order and eat quickly, but if you plan on a long leisurely dinner, food is worth the wait!
Perhaps one of the worst experiences I’ve had at a restaurant in DC. The service was terrible. I walked in after they had opened, at the same time as my waitress who looked a bit disheveled with hair falling in her face.
Items we ordered were forgotten and had to be asked for multiple times.
We ordered ice cream for desert and the manager came and told us the freezer wasn’t working so the ice cream was liquid, so we got rice pudding instead. Unfortunately it was not edible - the texture was slimy and unlike anything we had experienced. Out of three of us, no one could eat it.
Will not be going here again.
Made a reservation, but when we showed up were seated right away. I was never asked if I had a reservation but told them. They must have marked down the incorrect reservation because shortly after we were seated, I received a call from the restaurant asking where we were. Other then that, service was slightly slow. It took awhile for anyone to come over to our table to take our drink order, but the food was great.
Took the team for a thank you lunch and we all loved it. Great vegetarian options as well as plenty for the carnivores among us. Great buffet choices at a good price. We all said let's do this again!
Food was excellent and were made to feel very welcome
The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 7 pm. Nevertheless, the waitress was slow and un-attentive. The food was average at best. One member of our party wanted to take some of the food home, so they brought us a box to box it ourselves. There must be better Indian restaurants in the area.
I reserved a quite table at Rasoi kitchen for a special occasion and I had a good experience except that it was Saturday evening and the restaurant was too quiet and though it was obviously a slow evening the service was very slow as well. We had to flag down the waiter for everything and after we finished we waited and waited but were never offered dessert so we just asked for the check and left. overall the food was really good.
Rasoi is a really lovely experience for dinner. The food is good and it isn’t nearly as noisy as similar restaurants.
Very nice Indian restaurant within walking distance from hotels near the White House. Good service and fairly quite
Rasoi was EXCELLENT in every way!
Owner, "Kitty" and staff made us feel most welcome and she was most helpful matching our individual tastes to the menu items and even customized one dish to accommodate my husband's love of lamb and green chilies.
The food was savory and delicious, not overly nor under spiced. The portions were plentiful, which encouraged sharing and that only enhanced our dining experience.
The service was most attentive, yet not intrusive. Kitty and the staff made my birthday celebration very special and delicious!
The restaurant's decor was rich, without being gaudy and overall, our dining experience was delightful! We will most definitely return!
Rasoi turned out to be a wonderful surprise on my birthday - my wife and I had reservations at another popular Indian restaurant in DC and when we arrived, we found out it was restaurant week and they didn’t have anything we could eat on the menu (I’m vegetarian). I quickly searched OpenTable and saw Rasoi, which was only about 8 blocks away. A 2 minute Uber and we pulled up in front of Rasoi, and I could immediately tell I was going to like the place because of the great statuary in the entryway. The place is clean, feels open, and wasn’t super busy on a Thursday night. The owner let us pick whatever table we wanted, and gave us absolutely perfect service - not rushed, but checked back in with us occasionally as we lazily ordered drinks, appetizers, and finally entrees. I never got any sense that she was trying to rush us through so she could turn over our table, which is always my biggest problem with places like Rasika and Bombay Club. The food was great and relatively inexpensive, the drinks were strong and reasonably priced, and the service was excellent. The Palak Chaat is just as good as Rasika, but you get 50% more for almost half the price. The owner recommended the Tandoori Paneer Malai Tikka, and WOW. As a vegetarian I normally go for the classics, but this dish is like Indian soul food. Okay, so this place isn’t as swanky as some of the other upscale Indian places in DC... so what? I just want good food and good drinks and good service, and Rasoi delivered all of that at about half the price I would have paid somewhere else. I left happy and satisfied and will definitely be back!!
The service and food were great and so much food!!
Have been looking for genuine INDIAN food in DC and we found it at Rasoi! Great food and service. Understood what I meant when I said the food needed to be spicy and delivered. Will become our regular INDIAN restaurant in DC
Slowest service ever! Cold food! Will not go here again.
We had a table booked for 8.30pm on a Thursday night and unfortunately we were the only people here . This was off putting as there was no atmosphere. The food was nice though and the owner/manager had a nice chat with us.
