Rasika West End Ratings and Reviews
Rasika is wonderful. I would have given it 5 stars, but I used to live in London which has the best Indian food outside of India. Unfortunately, it's made me very picky about the quality of the Indian food I eat. Most people would probably rate Rasika higher.
Our server Helina ( Gelila) made our dining experience enjoyable. Her charisma, charm and knowledge of the food was exceptional. The food was fantastic. My friend and I shared the crispy spinach appetizer and had the chicken tikaa masala and the spicy lamb Xacuti and garlic nan for entree. Everything was so delicious and plentiful. We were too full for dessert but because it was my birthday they brought us an amazing sorbet with a candle on the house. Thank you so much for making my birthday so memorable. We will definitely go back to try other dishes very soon!!!
I make a point of always trying to get to Rasika when I’m in DC. It is impossible to go wrong at either of their locations. It’s the best Indian Restaurant I’ve ever been to, and I’ve never walked away anything but thrilled. The Palak Chaat remains a must-order appetizer. The service is always impeccable.
The only challenge is getting a reservation, so either plan way in advance or be prepared to eat a little earlier or later than usual. The West End location also has a larger bar/happy hour area so that’s a nice option if you’re alone or in a small group.
This was our second visit to Rasika West End--we've been to Rasika in Penn Quarter numerous times--and this was outstanding! The place buzzing on Saturday night, as expected. The ambiance was great (dim lighting) and seating very comfortable (unusual for non-booth seating). Service was very good: energetic (had to be with our table), knowledgeable and attentive. The food? Fantastic! We shared numerous dishes. At Rasika, it doesn't really matter what we order, specifically, since everything is wonderful. Of note though is the crispy spinach appetizer, a must. We had dishes from the tandoori oven, other curry dishes--lamb, chicken, eggplant, other veggie dishes and a couple kinds of breads. Delicious. Also as expected though, dessert wasn't anything special. Go here for a) the marvelous, authentic, contemporary Indian cuisine, and b) the energetic, fun atmosphere. It's a real treat and we're so fortunate to have both of these Rasika outposts in DC.
Unparalleled excellent food -- creative, delicious, fresh, and beautifully prepared. The restaurant is lovely and good for conversation. Atypically, on this particular visit, the service was poor. We ordered the palak chaat as an appetizer; it came quickly, and within 5 minutes so did the main courses -- even before our drinks arrived. The raita showed up 10 minutes later. So we had a crammed dinner, and no one came to check on anything or asked how things were. I would still go back anytime, because of my numerous excellent experiences at this marvelous restaurant, but something was seriously wrong with the service this time around.
After changing our reservation to 3 from 2 at the last minute we waited an extra 15 minutes for our table. After getting our water, a waiter came with two plates of beautiful appetizers. We told him we hadn’t even ordered and it was a mistake but it was a gift from the management for waiting! Such a wonderful surprise. Best Indian food I have ever had as well!
Rasika West End was a delight for all the senses. The restaurant vibe is chic and cool, without overdoing it. Of course the cocktails and food are the stars of the show. Every option our table sampled was amazing. And our waitress was very helpful at explaining the dishes and made some brilliant recommendations. We went over lunch and it was chill with minimal noise level - would be great for a business lunch spot. I can't wait to return!
We were sat in the back corner next to a table with 4 loud kids under the age of 5. Under no circumstances is it ok to sit a group in the back corner next to that table. I regularly set up business meetings and other dinners at Rasika but this experience made me not want to return. The hosts made it seem like it was our problem not wanting to sit back there, when in reality it was not acceptable for any party and the table should have been left empty, espically at the price point of Rasika.
Rasika *was not* what we expected. The food was ‘edible’ but the service was awful, not from our waiter, but from everyone else especially the manager, an oriental lady. Originally from Florida, we are not used to this type treatment. It started when we received a $100 gift certificate for Rasika with one of the highest recommendations we have ever heard. Our reservation was for 2:15 on Sunday, Oct./29th. Wr arrived at 2:17 and the first thing we did was to present the Hostess with the gift certificate, (as stated thereon). First, she could not find our reservation. When she did, it was already 2:22 PM. It was then that she told us that we should place our food arder as quickly, because the kitchen was closing at 2:30. Who would schedule a reservation for 2:15, when the kitchen closes at 2:30? We found this odd but went on to sit down. We ordered drinks and immediately ordered the food. Meanwhile, in the adjacent table, there was a family that had a child about a year old. The child was crying which caused for the oriental lady, (the manager), to come to their table and say: “I think it’s time for the child to take a walk”. And that’s what the father did, took the child for a walk under the rain. Our food came quickly, (it was edible but nothing to write home about). We had not finished our food yet when the oriental lady & the Hostess came to our table and said to us: “Your bill came up to ninety nine dollars and cents. What would you like to do with the rest?” We were perplexed! We asked for a copy of the bill but did not get it. We were not given the opportunity to order coffee or desert... At that point everyone became visibly upset and hostile si my wife and I decided to leave. Right about then, our expectations went to the floor about Rasika West. It was not a pleasant experience, and NO. I WOULD NOT recommend Rasika West End restaurant to anyone that is looking for a pleasant dining experience.
We loved the food, but the portions were too large. One of us had the snapper, which could easily have served two. We like to have different tastes, so dislike big portions that limit our ability to order several things. The ambiance is great and our server was fantastic.
This Indian gem never disappoints. Wonderful, flavorful food, beautifully presented with attentive and friendly service, in a very pleasant room. The outdoor tables are also inviting on a lovely day. The crunchy spinach is one of the most delicious things you'll ever taste.
