Ras Dashen Ethiopian Restaurant
Excellent food served in a family owned restaurant. The surroundings are not elegant but quite clean. Clearly the emphasis is on the food. If you like good Ethiopian food, you gotta go there!
Local experience- the food is delicious, staff kind and accommodating. Relaxed and diverse university neighborhood feel.
Got the wrong bill in the end. They tried charging double. Not good for someone who wouldn’t look!!!!! Unacceptable
Food was delicious. Ordered the spinach sambusa which was crispy and flavorful. The veggie sampler is a good deal. The classic red lentils and yellow split peas were good. We tried the kale and sweet and sour red cabbage which were delicious.
Service was good. Beautiful decor.
Service is slow but the tasty food makes up for it!
Very good Ethiopian food, home-cooked and authentic, I recommend stopping in and trying it out 👍
Loved the food. It does take some time to get your food. When it comes the food is great
Delicious food but the the service at Ras Dashen is awful!!! The staff is very friendly. However, you are kept waiting forever! Not exaggerating. Our food took an hour and a half to come out. A couple of things we ordered never even came out. Good thing we were in good company with good conversation otherwise we would have left. We seriously doubt we will go back.
I just love the food at Ras Dashen. The injera is so much better than most of the Ethiopian food in town and the flavors of the food are so bold and distinct. On top of that, great service and atmosphere.
Outstanding restaurant! The food was excellent. The service was excellent! The had a small jazz ensemble that was excellent as well! I would highly recommend Ras Dashen!
Fantastic food on the North Side of Chicago. Honestly one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in Chicago. Service is always warm & friendly.
This fantastic restaurant is perfect for every occasion! The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our waitress was not only gorgeous-but very helpful in describing the menu. She also told us it is her grandmother who makes the food. The whole experience was excellent and I hope to dine here again on my next visit to Chicago. I would be a “frequent flyer” if I lived in Chicago! Please check this place out-you will love it as I did!!
We love the food at Ras Dashen, but the service was terrible. It took 15 minutes for someone to come to our table after we were seated. It then took another 15 minutes for someone to take our order. Service has really gone down hill and it’s a shame because the food is very good. The service will keep us from visiting again.
I am vegetarian, Indian and the food definitely satisfies my palate- lots of spicy, lots of choices! Fun to eat!
The coffee is awesome. Also the amount of food for the price is cheap!
The service has gone done but food quality is the same.
Ras Dashen is one of my favorite places to visit when in Chicago. Hadn’t been there in six years; it was just as good as I remembered.
Overall experience was okay. But the food is good as always. Value could've been had elsewhere. Service left much to be desired.
I can understand that it was busy. However, you did have three people working as servers plus a bus person, and the place is not that big. If each worked their sections efficiently, service could've been much better!
In the end it's like they knew their service sucks and none of them wanted to make eye contacts when we were leaving. The only person that was very efficient and courteous was the bus person! He also thanked us for coming in while we were leaving.
Always great food and service!
Went for my birthday and had a good time. The staff was friendly and helpful. Plenty of options for those that do and do not eat meat. Great flavors and a good amount of spice in the foods.
I've heard so many great things about Ras Dashen from my boss and friends and decided to have a lunch catch up there with two friends. I was so grateful they had gluten free injera!!! i asked the hostess to bring us what she loved to eat and everything was SO. DELICIOUS!!! the coffee was a wonderful after meal desert/addition.
The lamb they recommend Yebeg Dereq Tibs wasn't very good (I think tibs means dry and chewy). My wife's chicken Doro Wat was very good. The spinach sambusa was excellent. The injera not as sour as other places. Service could have been more attentive. Live jazz Friday at 6:30.
They don't honor the $10-off coupons they sold a while ago, which are still valid. Deceptive!
Fun neighborhood spot with a lively vibe! Enjoyed the live music, Ethiopian beer, and tasty vegetarian food. All around a fun evening.
I went with two friends from out of town we shared the veggie sampler and a beef stew. It was delicious and the service was outstanding. Afterwards we ordered the rice pudding which was also good.
Everything about Ras Dashen was great. The staff are exceptionally friendly. The food is some of the best and most complex Ethiopian I’ve ever eaten.
DELICIOUS Ethiopian food! Great service! Highly recommend.
Very good food as always! First time visit for our friends who thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine.
Outstanding food and service! The menu has great variety!
Have been many times. Food is great, experience is fun. Service is always slow but if you have that mindset going in, the quality and flavors of the food make the wait well worthwhile.
