Rare Steakhouse - Washington DC
Steak was nice and well prepared. Brussels sprouts were so salty they were inedible. Bernaise was also way too salty.
Ambiance was nice, but spoiled by 2 televisions.
Expected fine dining, but experienced a “nice steakhouse”
Steak was quite tough. Most of our table left ~ 50% of their food on the table.
Came in for a Pre-Mother’s Day Celebration dinner and this place did no disappoint . From the wine selection , appetizers and steaks everything was sublime even the additional sauces were amazing. Service was attentive and informative our server “Karen” was amazing and did everything to make us feel at home . Highly recommend this place for any occasion the food is bomb!
Small classy place, very nice food and perfect servers with a lot of info about the food and a lot of energy.
Super nice on all accounts, but damn it's expensive. Mortons, Ruth Chris, etc seemed like a bargain.
Nice restaurant great steaks wonderful service-fond memories have been created
Great food and service. Delicious steaks and Sundays bring 1/2 price bottles of wine!
Earns 5 stars all around! But there’s a point where food doesn’t increase in quality when you pay more and this was one of those scenarios when it came to the steak. Tasted like a $40-50 steak but I’m not trying to bad mouth the place as price is solely a bit inflated due to the location
The staff was amazing and extremely attentive and truly made it special!
The service was impeccable. The atmosphere a pleasant mix between a traditional dark wood paneled steak house and an airy light filled contemporary space. A nice start for a date. Then the food... My wife and I each ordered a cesser salad to start. The salad ended up being very meh. The salad’s flavors were underdeveloped, and the mix of lettuces used was lost underneath a pile of parmesan crisps. Our steaks were dry and tasted like breakfast sausage (leftovers perfect for steak and eggs though). We ordered two sides: truffle gnocchi and spinach. The gnocchi was dense, and it’s plating did not allow the truffle sauce to seep in. The spinach was Rare’s spin on steakhouse spinach with a little more cream than usual. The citrus cheese cake was by far the best part of the meal. My wife and I left thinking that if we had just had some wine and that cheese cake at Rare we would have left even happier. Again, a shout out to great service at the restaurant!
The best steakhouse in DC.
What an incredible restaurant. My wife and I went here for our 20th anniversary and they treated us incredibly well. The food was excellent along with the staff. The staff provided great recommendations for cocktail, appetizer, and entree pairings followed by some sherry and Madeira tasting with 15 year old Wisconsin cheddar for desert. Just a wonderful experience overall.
This is one of the few steakhouses in the US I’ll remember... (with Brennan’s in New Orleans and Stake at
Everything was absolutely perfect, the dry aged were absolutely delicious, full of flavor but not overwhelming, cooked at perfection (we had a bit of everything around the table) - the double chop was incredible!
The sides were even better and I can not recommend more to go for the Gnocchis ... huge success.
The wine list is sufficient but could be improved on the mid-leveled prices but starting with a Brouilly (light bodied Gamay) and getting the Rutherford réserve with the steaks made a huge impression
GO GO GO...
Wonderful meal that was recommended by a waiter who was fantastic. Beautiful, charming atmosphere. Fantastic place!
Thank you for another fabulous dining experience- as we celebrated our anniversary. Allison and team did a fantastic job!
Excellent gourmet specialty cuisine. Everything was perfect.
Excellent food. Amazing steak and great sides. At the time we went, it was noisy.
Our waiter Andy was just as amazing as the food!
I chose this venue for a reunion spot with some fraternity brothers. Our waitress was abrasive and rude. She chaffed at basic requests and would ignore us at times. The meat was good, but the sides were just okay and not worth the price. The Brussels sprouts were actually burnt. Not worth the $$$$ cost for the type of service we received or food we ate.
The steak is really good. The only thing is the price is little bit too high.
David provided the best service and gave us an excellent dinner experience overall.
very good food, service outstanding, place is easy to fine
My filet was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were delicious. I also recommend the wedge salad.
Highly recommend spending time here with your hungry family and friends. The rib cap is absolutely amazing - simply the best!
The cinnamon roll dessert is an decadent finishing touch to a great meal.
Will definitely be back!
The meat was world class, on a par with what you’d get in Don Julio in Buenos Aires!
The waiter was attentive, friendy and extremely professional.
I would most definitely recommend Rare Steakhouse to friends and will come again- with a smile on my face!
Extremely loud. Otherwise great.
We had a very nice experience. Service and food were on point. I had the pre fix lunch , everything was wonderful from the salad, steak and cookie. Was a good size meal for the price . Looking forward to going back. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.
The steaks were mediocre. The sides were overcooked, except for the potatoes. Servers were great. I am not sure how attentive they would be on a busy night. For the extraordinary prices, this was an underwhelming experience. We probably won't be going back there.
We walked around in DC after the dinner and went back to get the car from the Valet about an hour after we finished the dinner, the guy from the restaurant yelled at me telling me that they were about to tow my car away. The steaks we had during the dinner were also really bad, the medium rare steak my date ordered was still frozen in the center, and the well done steak I ordered was scorched outside but still red inside.
This is the WORST experience I ever had from an upscale restaurant. The staff was very impolite and disrespectful, the chef seemed didn’t even know how to cook a steak.
Delicious dining experience, the director Ryan took great care of us even though we were late for our reservation. We loved the truffle gnocchi!
Just very expensive with no chicken options. But very nice is you are looking for expensive steak
Had a drink at the bar first. Good service there. Had a table ready at time of reservation. Good service. Had aged NY strip. Done perfectly with a nice crust. A bit salty for me but I want less salt and more pepper than 95% of meat eaters. Ambiance is standard new school steakhouse.
Our food was very good and our waitress Brittany, was amazing. We will go again.
Exceptional from our initial greeting through dessert. Deft and friendly service made for an incredibly
comfortable evening. Very serious beef menu with super interesting choices and a staff that explains them well. Kitchen executed beautifully. Definitely try the Octopus. Wonderful experience.
Our server, Karen, was EXCELLENT. She provided menu suggestions and took great care of us during our meal. Even when our steak/pork chop was under-cooked, she noticed it and took it back to the kitchen to be prepared as requested.
Lunch - superb aged cheeseburger and fries. Attentive servers.
It was good but the atmosphere reminded me of a restaurant built in the 60s that never underwent renovation. Steak was excellent but not worth $48, not to mention that any sides are additional.
Very good food. Unusual choices.
Overall excellent experience. I took my 7 year old with very sophisticated palate for steak. She loved it. Cooked perfectly. Service was very attentive. Excellent wine recommendations. I would go back next time I’m in town without hesitation.
