My brother came into town to visit and wanted to get a good steak dinner. Had an unbelievable meal and great service. Dave was great and treated us well all night long.
Our server Brittany was FANTASTIC! Food was superb.
The meal was outstanding. The steaks perfectly cooked, and accompanying sides superb.
The absolute standouts of the evening were the sommeliers who shared their time with us generously, including discussing their cellar, options, and much about the particular vineyards and vintages we eventually selected. The half-price bottle feature of Sunday night's will bring us back to experiment again!
Amazing food and service- pricey, but worth every penny‼️ Will definitely re-visit on a special occasion or extreme craving for steak done right‼️ Sides were amazing as well-
Expected more. Appetizers were not great. The octopus was hard and extremely spicy. The escargots were horrible. The pork belly was good and so were the streaks but overall not great for what we expected.
Wonderful as always !
Food was excellent! Late arriving client so getting a table was easy. Service was very good and attentive. Only drawback was it was a very expensive
went for lunch, food was great, service excellent attentive but not overwhelming.
Great food and service. A bit pricey.
Was pricey but, the food and wine was amazing. Will not find such quality at the price point.
Fantastic steak house. First rate steaks including a “cut of the day” with interesting offerings. Great wine list too.
Seriously overpriced stakehouse but the service is pleasant and friendly.
Three of us for dinner post theater show - so glad we choose Rare! Décor is beautiful - old time steakhouse with wood and bonze fixtures. Very comfortable though - not stuffy at all. Appetizers were delicious - my daughter especially liked the grilled octopus. Each of us selected the 9 oz filet mignon - cooked absolutely perfectly. We enjoyed the au jus sauce and the jalapeno salsa. If you like mashed potatoes even a little bit, you must order the creamy mashed potatoes - serving size is not too large, and the flavor is amazing - unbelievably creamy and smooth! The best part of our dinner, however, was the service. We thoroughly enjoyed the attentiveness and light-hearted banter with our waiter, Carlos. We had selected Rare from a list of top 15 steakhouses in D.C., and we were very happy with our choice!
It was my husband’s birthday and everything was amazing. We already planning our next visit!
The steak was salty. Way too salty. The 7 mushroom side dish was also over seasoned. Generally, probably a worst steak experience for me.
Corporate meal with a few Australian business men. Good steaks, pricey for the offering!
All nice very happy with the choice will recommend to visit
The food was extraordinary. I had the dry-aged bone-in NY Strip, and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. The sides were very good, the cocktails were perfect, and the service was attentive and friendly.
It was my first time dining at Rare but certainly will not be my last. The service from the moment I was greeted with a hand shake by our waiter until the desert plates were removed was exceptional. The steaks were perfect with great flavor and temperature. There was not one thing I would change.
The steak and sides were just not that good at a premium price. BLT is a block down.
Our first visit to Raee was exceptional. The food was decadent and the service wonderful. We went on a Thursday and it was clearly a govt after hours (male bonding) spot - very loud, but not uncomfortably so. We will definitely visit again!!
A fantastic luxury dining experience. The cuts of meat were tremendously flavorful, especially the bottleneck steak and the NY strip, and the service was world-class. Took my girlfriend here for her birthday dinner, and they made us feel like VIPs. Would definitely recommend!
Rare really Misses the mark for a fine steakhouse. the Cesar salad has ingredients that are non-standard for a Caesar salad and so while it wasn’t bad it’s not what I was expecting and certainly not what i ordered. I had steak tartare. Again it had many non-standard ingredients and they were strong enough such that you really didn’t taste the meet. My guest had scallops. Once again they missed the mark. The scallops were not very large and they were served with pasta that was extremely spicy. The spice was strong enough that you really didn’t taste the scallops.
This restaurant fell below my expectations. Certainly not the value for the price.
Best steakhouse in Washington, DC! Our wait staff, Allison and David, were fantastic (as usual).
Was surprised at how empty the restaurant was for our dinner. Service was exceptional! Our table was right behind the waiter station and next to the kitchen door, we could have been put in a nicer spot since the restaurant was so empty. The food and wine were pretty fabulous! Would recommend if you are like looking for a high end steak joint!!!
Impeccable service, excellent quality and preparation of dishes from appetizer to dessert, (especially the steak!), great cocktails and crazy wine list. Great place for business or pleasure!
Great service amazing food. Steak cooked perfect
This will be my first review on OpenTable. I dined at this establishment on September 16. The noise level was such that my colleague and I could not hear each other . When we inquired if we could move, the waiter advised that moving would not help as the restaurant was very loud.
My Tiger Shrimp cocktail was not fresh. My colleague ordered a Cesar Salad with extra Anchovies- when it came,, there were no anchovies and no croutons. We iWe both ordered the 22 ounce bone in ribeye, Dray just locally. How are the waiter recommended that we order a piece of steak that was not on the menu but of similar quality to what we had ordered. So we ordered the The $135 steak to split between the two of us. The The steak was very disappointing. The steak was terrible, as it had no flavor. I took only two bites and put my fork down. I asked for the check and when the waiter presented it he could see that we had only taken a few bites, yet never asked if there was something wrong with the steak.
.on the East Coast on a business trip and hosted a colleague of mine at this establishment on Wednesday evening, September blank. And I hope so if I was at the recommendation of our server, we ordered a steak from the at the highest categoryincluding reviews on yelp. How are my recent experience with rare steakhouse in Washington DC has prompted me to change that style practice. I was on business on a business trip in Washington DC and hosted a colleague of mine in the hopes that we would dinejust isn’t my style to write reviews for any establhment. However, I need to take the time to express my utter disappointment at the food that we had at the capital rare capital steakhouse in Washington DC. A colleague of mine join me for dinner
Dear Anonymous - First, thank you for the feedback. While it's clearly not what we like to hear, it's important that we do. Second, it seems like we missed the mark when you were in on Monday and for that I apologize. We are proud of the high marks we've earned-much of those marks are based on our in-house butchering and dry-again program as well as the freshest seafood available. I am going to send you my email in the hopes that we might host you again so we can show you who we really are. drew
If you are staying in DC for three nights eat here, if your staying for four nights try somewhere else for one of those nights, but you will regret it.
The steaks are great, really flavoursome and the carrots with pistachios are fantastic. The Muga Rioja was a great recommendation.
Allison the Captain and Drew are great hosts.
Birthday dinner for son. All delicious. Great wine recommendation. Beautiful dessert of table side prepared Bananas Foster
Such a great experience and the tone for the night was really nice. There was attentive staff and an amazing selection from the menu. The dinning experience was something that left a mark of recognition and a great memory along with the delicious meal we had. We had a great dining experience
The service was phenomenal. Our server Dino was an absolute perfect 10. He had stellar recommendations and was on top of every inch of the meal. Highly recommended.
Service was excellent. Food was very good and ambiance was casually nice for a steak restaurant. Would definitely come back.
First time dining there. It is loud because of the bar area.
All the food was incredibly salty. My steak was almost inedible (without any sauce added) and I kept going to my sides to offset it only to find them super salty as well.
Shame to ruin what would otherwise have been a great cut of meat that was cooked exactly as it should have been.
Awesome dinner to celebrate my sons birthday. Everything was perfect food and service. Karen our server was amazing she recommended items from the menu that were delicious
Awesome food and service! Dine with family visiting and everyone rared about their meal. We had steak of course, seasoned well and cooked perfect to request and my favorite the Branzino and although we tried several side dishes, the oven baked or deep fried mash potato balls (not greasy and tasty) was a perfect side for my fish. You won't be disappointed. Upscale dining with a very relaxed atmosphere. Sorry to add that we enjoyed our stay so much, that we forgot the time and was the last diners to leave... Apologizes to the staff waiting on us and thanks for another great dining experience!
A classic steakhouse experience with excellent food and first class service.
Food was very salty in multiple course making it difficult to finish. Lobster was not as done as it should be
The food is excellent and I realize the cuts of beef are beyond compare; however, this restaurant is extremely expensive — in our case, $100.00 per person. At these prices, I expect an ambience that is simply beautiful. The restaurant has a feel of prohibition/Frank Sinatra — which I like, but it’s too casual for the cost. Also, they need to work on music that matches the theme.
We thought the waitress was overbearing and condescending until we realized my husband had his shirt on inside-out. At that point, we laughed until we almost choked on their delicious food.
If this restaurant would broaden the menu, fix a couple of atmospheric details, and decrease prices, I would recommend it, but right now, in my view, they need to improve.
