Rare Steakhouse - Washington DC
Not in the top ten of dc steakhouses. Nice decor sub par food, very salty. Staff did their best based upon what they're given.
Best! Will come here from now on. It crushed all Steakhouse restaurants.
The service was impeccable. The maitre’d Eduardo was so professional and smooth when he welcomed us, and he really set the tone for a wonderful evening. Our server Silvano was fantastic at his job. He knew about our dietary restrictions and was knowledgeable about what dishes on the menu could and could not be altered. He made good suggestions and made sure our needs were taken care of. We appreciated the service and care, which was always there when needed but not too much. The staff at Rare made this a great experience.
Everything was EXCELLENT!
Very great service, great food but expensive
Place was nice food was great a little confusion getting us seated even with a late reservation but besides that definitely recommend this spot
Hands down the best steak I have ever had.........!
We ordered the tomahawk steak medium. It came out very boring, Luke warm, and season less. We returned it and ordered the Bronzino and a rib cup steak medium well. The steak was burnt but the bronzino was yummy.
This place is awesome!!! The food was great and the service was the best!!!I cant wait to come back again... Lovely and elegant restaurant...
All around amazing experience. Wonderful service comfortable atmosphere and incredible food. Cannot thank everyone at Rare enough for a great night out during our vacation. Steaks were perfect. Winter fruit cheesecake was the best thing I have ever tasted. Highly recommend.
Great food and great service! Steak was amazing.
It's disappointing when the best item in a multi-course steakhouse meal is the dessert. I ordered a Delmonico steak and my friend had the grass-fed ribeye and both were tough with an unacceptable amount of gristle. Mine was so bad that the server agreed it was not up to par and he offered to exchange it or charge half price to make up for the poor quality. We also ordered two side dishes - extremely salty mushrooms and asparagus with peppadew which was bland and had little flavor. I first dined there when the restaurant opened and that meal was far superior. Sorry to say that Rare did not meet our expectations and its decline has confirmed our decision not to return.
Great Service, Waitress very knowledgeable Great Food, Nice Atmosphere
Wonderful service! It did get pretty loud by 8:30/9 but I think that’s just a sign of people having a great time.
Not enough moderately priced options and steaks weren’t much or any better than you’d get at another nice steakhouse for much less.
Dinner was great from start to finish. Atmosphere was very masculine and sophisticated. Great place for an indulgent group dinner, date, or special occasion. Started with a Caesar salad (which was large enough to share between two,) great flavor. Good balance of lemon and anchovy with a nice horseradish kick. Rib cap steak, with rock shrimp enhancement. Steak was very tasty, nicely seasoned. I would pass on the rock shrimp as an enhancement and choose a different one, maybe lobster or crab cake next time. Bone-in Filet with blue cheese enhancement was outstanding! Sides: Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts. Both excellent complements to the steaks. Mac and cheese is prepared a little differently, and is very satisfying. Added an excellent bottle of champagne and finished with dessert. Overall, Rare was a winner.
Closely rivals my favorite DC steakhouse. We’d definitely go back. Next time maybe to try the Tavern fare, which is a little more casual than the steakhouse dining room.
I came here for my anniversary with my life partner and fell in love; the food, service, and overall experience was amazing. Highly recommend
Delicious! My friend and I had salmon and steak. Both were impressively tasty. I would have liked to see a filet on the menu. Overall, fantastic!
Amazing! This was a contemporary steak house. Not the traditional cream spinach and mashed potatoes. They had a potato croquet with horseradish. I had the fluke fish. I know I went to a steak house and had the seafood. The fluke was exceptional! The service was outstanding. And the cheesecake was beautiful and delicious.
Service was impeccable and food was delicious from appetizers to desserts. Steaks were perfectly cooked also. My only complaint is that 3 of 4 steaks were a bit salty; one was perfect.
We went for restuarant week but got some upgrade add on. Service was spot on and food was delicious.
Fantastic food, fantastic service, I can’t wait to come back.
What an amazing way to celebrate my birthday! I wanted a special treat and Rare delivered! I was delighted to see such mouth-watering Restaurant Week offerings...and they extended this great value for an extra week. The pork starter was delightful! I’ve been to Rare before and know they have amazing steaks....but the duck I ordered was probably the best meat course I’ve had in months! Melt in your mouth, right combination of spice, sweet and heat. I would come back for that dish alone! And to end with the table-side Bananas Fosters flambé service was super fun! Kudos to the amazing service David, Allison and the whole team provided. Truly an exceptional way to celebrate! Thank you for making my experience so...Rare, and memorable!
One of the best meals I've had in a long, long time. Great service (ask for David the waiter), great food, great time!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in a dignified environment. We appreciated the professionalism and polite "welcome" of the greeters on each floor, who were wearing suits. Similarly, our waiter Sylvano was unobtrusively professional. When we had questions about the food, he was able to answer right away without running off to the kitchen to ask. Without being pushy, he also provided us interesting information about the restaurant, its history, and its additional food offerings. The atmosphere for lunch was quiet, with music at a suitable background level, and our booth in the corner was private. The Restaurant Week menu was superb value and the food delicious. My Manhattan was a perfect accompaniment to the excellent meal. I wouldn't normally write a review but in this case I am, because this experience was memorable -- perfect, in fact. Thanks to all.
Amazing service, Drew, David and Allison were spectacular!
Food was delicious and the oysters were excellent . It was very cold outside so there wasn’t too many people at the restaurant but the service was amazing
Everything was great! Professional and courteous service, tasty food, pleasant ambience, we will be back for sure! Special thanks to manager Eduardo Carrasco he made the evening extra special!
This was our first visit to Rare Steakhouse, during Restaurant Week. The menu selections were surprisingly varied. Each course was perfectly prepared and presented. The service was excellent. Even though we ordered from the $35.99 menu and bought a bottle of one of their least expensive wines, we were treated like very valued customers. Rare Steakhouse far exceeded our experiences at other steakhouses -- Morton's, Ruth's Chris, Capitol Grille. Highly recommend.
Even though we had a reservation we had to wait 45 minutes because they gave someone else our table after checking in on time. They made up for it with free cocktails at the bar while we waited. They seemed to be in full chaos but the food was excellent! Just need to step up their service and make sure everyone working knows what they are doing!
Classic steak house with aged steaks, creative sides (black truffle gnocchi), impressive wine cellar, and table side food prep (we had Bananas Foster expertly prepared and served by Dean'O), in a luxurious setting of dark wood, rich carpet and elegantly attired professional wait staff and management.
Wife and I visited for the first time during restaurant week and had a wonderful experience. We both had the broiled oysters appetizers, wife had the Bottleneck Steak (filet), I had the aged 14oz, both were perfectly cooked excellent cuts. Sides were Potatoes Dauphine (tasty golf ball sized croquettes), Truffle Gnocchi (wow!), Asparagus & Peppedew, and Broccolini so not the usual suspects of creamed spinach and potatoes au gratin. Be warned, the bread, a sourdough "garlic knot" is yummy, garlicy, cheesy kryptonite so resist the temptation to devour the entire thing. Save room for the rest of the meal. Wife is still scolding me for letting her eat the whole thing. Clearly my fault.
Warm, professional, and hospitable service from all. Our table upstairs wasn't ready so Drew apologetically seated us in the Tavern (main floor) and served us the Steakhouse menu. Tavern is more casual but no less elegant than the white tablecloth dining room upstairs. Drew comped us each a glass of champagne and surprised us with additional sides giving us an opportunity to sample more of what makes Rare a unique steakhouse in DC. Definitely going back very, very soon.
Resto week - great choice!
It was a great place service was awesome
Went for restaurant week and was blown away by quality, value, and experience of Rare steakhouse.
My fourth time here. A bit inconsistent. Service is always A+. Food can vary. Great wine list, but a bit pricey. Very nice ambiance. Friendly and professional staff. Well managed by friendly, competent and sincere people. Bartenders are also great. Be sure and stop in for Happy Hour.
This was my first time going here and I will be back. The oyster appetizer was great. I got the Kansas Strip medium well and even two days later when I heated it up it was still juicy and tender. The sides were great. We got banana Foster for dessert and it was delicious. The service was great. I will be back.
like bananas foster！
Our evening at RARE Steakhouse was superb!
The upstairs dining room was elegant — among the most handsome and stately in DC, without being stuffy. Cocktails were classic-with-a-twist. All the food was delicious, attractive and plentiful, and the wine list provided excellent, complementary options. The notable enhancement was the seasoned staff: polished, informative and solicitous, while not being intrusive.
This was a restaurant week outing that we fully enjoyed. It’s marvelous to have the opportunity to sample a new,
$$$ Restaurant; dining at RARE is an experience I look forward to repeating.
This is as good as a steakhouse can get! Fantastic food at every course.
