RARE Steakhouse and Tavern is a one-of-a-kind fine dining concept that brings together the best qualities of world-class dining venues with USDA Prime, dry-aged steaks, exquisite wines and first-class service bolstered with Midwestern charm. The first Rare Steakhouse was opened in Madison, WI in May 2014 with a goal of recreating the nostalgia and romance of the classic steakhouse- where eating out was meant to be an experience. The second location in Milwaukee opened in 2016.

My filet was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were delicious. I also recommend the wedge salad.

Highly recommend spending time here with your hungry family and friends. The rib cap is absolutely amazing - simply the best!

The cinnamon roll dessert is an decadent finishing touch to a great meal.

Will definitely be back!

The meat was world class, on a par with what you’d get in Don Julio in Buenos Aires!
The waiter was attentive, friendy and extremely professional.
I would most definitely recommend Rare Steakhouse to friends and will come again- with a smile on my face!

We had a very nice experience. Service and food were on point. I had the pre fix lunch , everything was wonderful from the salad, steak and cookie. Was a good size meal for the price . Looking forward to going back. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly.

The steaks were mediocre. The sides were overcooked, except for the potatoes. Servers were great. I am not sure how attentive they would be on a busy night. For the extraordinary prices, this was an underwhelming experience. We probably won't be going back there.

We walked around in DC after the dinner and went back to get the car from the Valet about an hour after we finished the dinner, the guy from the restaurant yelled at me telling me that they were about to tow my car away. The steaks we had during the dinner were also really bad, the medium rare steak my date ordered was still frozen in the center, and the well done steak I ordered was scorched outside but still red inside.


This is the WORST experience I ever had from an upscale restaurant. The staff was very impolite and disrespectful, the chef seemed didn’t even know how to cook a steak.

Delicious dining experience, the director Ryan took great care of us even though we were late for our reservation. We loved the truffle gnocchi!

Had a drink at the bar first. Good service there. Had a table ready at time of reservation. Good service. Had aged NY strip. Done perfectly with a nice crust. A bit salty for me but I want less salt and more pepper than 95% of meat eaters. Ambiance is standard new school steakhouse.

Exceptional from our initial greeting through dessert. Deft and friendly service made for an incredibly
comfortable evening. Very serious beef menu with super interesting choices and a staff that explains them well. Kitchen executed beautifully. Definitely try the Octopus. Wonderful experience.

Our server, Karen, was EXCELLENT. She provided menu suggestions and took great care of us during our meal. Even when our steak/pork chop was under-cooked, she noticed it and took it back to the kitchen to be prepared as requested.

It was good but the atmosphere reminded me of a restaurant built in the 60s that never underwent renovation. Steak was excellent but not worth $48, not to mention that any sides are additional.

Overall excellent experience. I took my 7 year old with very sophisticated palate for steak. She loved it. Cooked perfectly. Service was very attentive. Excellent wine recommendations. I would go back next time I’m in town without hesitation.

This restaurant is overpriced as compared to their competition. The service was excellent, and the ambience was good. The food was also good, but the menu didnt have great variety, and for the price it's just not worth it.

Our Captain and the other servers were spectacular. Recommended a wonderful Napa Blackbird Vineyards 2014 red blend wine, the steaks were unique and delicious and perfectly cooked. My friend's 40th birthday celebration was the occasion and staff made it special. The sides were excellent EXCEPT the mac cheese ravioli dish is just too heavy and a bit too creamy/mushy. But a great meal thank you!

Also ich bin fast sprachlos und kann es nicht in Worte fassen, welch ein Geschmack diese dry-age Rinder-Filet durch den am Knochen gegrillten Prozess der Zubereitung entfaltet. Jeder, der schon mal ein dry-age Steak gegessen hat, vermag zu beurteilen, welch eine Geschmackentfaltung entsteht, das aber als „Frauensteak“ bei Steakkennern verpönte Filet hat heute eine Stufe erreicht, die durch den Knochen und Fettreste an der Außenseite eine neue Dimension nie gekannten Ausmaßes im Geschmack entfaltet. Es ist nicht gut, es ist nicht sehr gut, es ist das von mir bisher als einzigartig und exzellent bezeichneteste Rinderfilet aller Zeiten beschrieben. Fast untergegangen sind dabei die raffiniert mit schwarzen geraspelten Trüffeln versehenden dünnen krossen Fritten, die eine neue Interpretation einer so trivalen Beilage aufwertet. Also volle Punktzahl. Fast zur Nebensache degradierte sich dabei der offene rote Burgunder, der aber geschmackvoll rund und ohne aufdringlich zu wirken. 😊😋👍

Some of the best beef I’ve eaten anywhere. The service was great and friendly. My only complaint would be the the crowd it attracted the night we were there — a number of loud tables filled with people talking mostly so that others could hear them bragging. The restaurant can’t help that, however.

One of the best meals ever. The cap steak was superbly prepared. brussel sprouts and cooked onions were great. Key Lime pie really good with a different presentation. Attentive service as well.

Not in the top ten of dc steakhouses. Nice decor sub par food, very salty. Staff did their best based upon what they're given.

The service was impeccable. The maitre’d Eduardo was so professional and smooth when he welcomed us, and he really set the tone for a wonderful evening. Our server Silvano was fantastic at his job. He knew about our dietary restrictions and was knowledgeable about what dishes on the menu could and could not be altered. He made good suggestions and made sure our needs were taken care of. We appreciated the service and care, which was always there when needed but not too much. The staff at Rare made this a great experience.

We ordered the tomahawk steak medium. It came out very boring, Luke warm, and season less. We returned it and ordered the Bronzino and a rib cup steak medium well. The steak was burnt but the bronzino was yummy.
