This place is pretty fancy, and old timey. As a millennial I wouldn't expect to go to a place like this but I wanted to try Waygu and they had it. Overall, not too bad!
Excellent dinner venue for an amazing get-together with 4 guests. The setting was superb, and the meal was delicious.
This was my first dining (2/14/21) at RARE and baby!!! they did not disappoint. I ordered the Salmon with the Jump Lump Oscar as an add-on. Just amazing!!!!! I cannot wait to go back.
David Morris is the best. He took care of table and made us feel at home. He's the best of the best!
We went for a nice Valentine's dinner and the atmosphere and services were very good but I wasn't really impressed with the food for the price. Everything tasted rather bland except for the drinks, beef tartar, & dessert. For us, this was a miss and were foodies.
I wish I could remember our servers name. He was awesome!
great service will visit again, fast and good .....
Steak was wonderful, ambience was wonderful, a little bit pricey but it is a top notch steakhouse, it was well worth the price.
We went on Valentines which I’m sure was busy. The server did not come by in a timely manner despite low capacity and small table size occupied. I had a few menu questions and the sever was unnecessarily snarky. We finally ordered our food, then 10 minutes later were told they were out of one item so we reordered. 10 moire minutes later they came back and informed my partner that they didn’t have his main course so he had to reorder a second time. It was hard to get the servers attention when we needed the bill which showed they weren’t keeping a close eye on their tables. When we finally got the bill, they gave us a different tables check that had totally different items and a $100 bill difference. They gave us the right check and had failed to remove the drinks the maître d’ had said was on the house due to the inconvenience. We had to ask about getting it removed which the server did not seem happy about. They removed it and we paid, but not before being able to her the server complain about the maître d’ and other tables, which was unprofessional.
We were excited for first nice evening out in quite a while but it was not very pleasant.
My husband and I had an amazing time at Rare Steakhouse. David, our waiter, was very informative of the menu and exceedingly attentive. We ordered the beef tartare, crab cakes, 4 oz of wagyu, filet mignon, and scallops. David was extremely polite and answered all of our questions. The restaurant was clean and the tables were socially distant.
Food was delicious. Service was great. Drinks menu was good for wine drinkers. Not many specialty drinks on the menu. Great restaurant will revisit
Fabulous food & service!
We had a great Galentine. ❤️
It was a great Atmosphere, the wine selection they had was great. Now let's get to the food the Beer tartare was a nice appetizer to start our meal, for the main dish we got the bison steak which our waitress recommend it was very tender and tasted amazing highly recommend it.
This time the steak was hard to chew. The last time when I was here back in October my steak was very delicious and easy to chew and the reason I came back again. Both times I ordered the prime dry aged NY Strip (cooked medium)
I took my husband for his birthday and he loved it. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend!
Stopped by Rare on a Saturday night. And it had the kind of vibe I was looking for. Very classy and quiet. The service was exceptional, with quality food and craft cocktails. Special shout-out to Andre the bartender who caters to the needs of his guests and always seems to come up with the perfect concoctions. The products behind the bar are top-notch as well (From a vast selection of wines to whisky, rum, Gin, Vodka...) It's safe to say you will leave Rare satisfied and wanting more. Expect another visit from yours truly!!
Best Ribeye I have ever had! The food was incredible all the way around and the service matched. Excellent restaurant.
It was a birthday celebration
Wonderful night out!
We come to Rare for every special occasion - Valentine’s Day, my birthday, my fiancé’s birthday, etc. This place makes you feel like you’re dining with DC’s finest, which is true! We are steak lovers so we actually followed our server, Dave, here from Bobby Van’s. Dave is really the best server in DC and will take care of you if you’re up for some fun banter! We come here for the Tomahawk steak, fries, Moscow mules, and salads. They recently changed their brussel sprout recipe from fried to sautéed so just make sure you are aware of that. The cheesecake is just ok so try to order something else like the creme brûlée. Out of all the steakhouses we’ve been to in DC, we feel that Rare just has, like it’s name, a very rare and special feeling to it! If you’re looking for a romantic night with excellent food and service, this is your spot! Just make sure to make reservations early on Open Table in advance. We love it here!
Such a great meal, and an amazing French 75 from Andre!
We had our 6th annual boys night here and once again, the food and service were amazing!
Rare is an open, elegant, two level establishment that impresses as soon as you walk in. The wine list was extensive. The initial selection was not available but the staff suggested a similar wine. The rolls were delicious. We recently dined at another upscale steakhouse and Rare's filet was more tender and better sized for one sitting. The crowd was worthy of people watching. We will definitely return.
Best steak We have put in our mouth
ever. The sides were all excellent.
Service excellent. Wine excellent.
Do you think we loved it ?
The food was amazing and our server David was amazing! Everything on the menu was outstanding!
If you are seeking simple indulgence, this is the place. Fantastic steaks, classic sides, and excellent service. It is definitely worth the treat (and my Grandma would approve of the creaminess of the mashed potatoes). Ask for David - he’ll spoil you!
Our server/bartender was outstanding and very attentive. The drinks we’re made with our taste profiles in mind. Very well tailored to our preferences. Andre made me a citrus rum drink that I could not stop drinking. He was absolutely amazing! The food was fantastic. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and melted in my mouth. We will definitely be back again soon.
Nice dinner
Had a great dinner meeting with executives from my company. Free parking across the street.
best steak I've ever had! I will definitely be coming back.
Great food and service! I decided to go with a group of friends and couldn’t have asked for more. From walking through the doors, Eduardo and Martín are a dynamic duo! Attentive, friendly and welcoming team. To our waiters serving and joking with us, making it as ‘normal’ as can be. By far the best restaurant!
It was so great that Rare has re-opened. We went there to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and the staff made us feel like VIPs. All of the staff wore masks and gloves and the restaurant felt very safe. Definitely recommend!
Very nice. Very few people inside and all socially distanced.
Rare is by far the best steakhouse in DC. Never disappoints
Great steaks but some of the worst wine service I’ve ever encountered anywhere. Were out of a Bordeaux I wanted, asked for a Super Tuscan instead; they suggested an alternate Super Tuscan; finally brought us a Chianti from the same vineyard as the substitute Super Tuscan. Like, you can’t make this stuff up.
Pay corkage or maybe just stick to martinis 😆
My second visit in two weeks with a group. Just as great as the first time, excellent food, service and wine suggestions. We did have a private room this time that did lend itself to easier conversation for our group as it can get a bit noisy in main dining area. Will definitely be back.
While our service was great, the steak in particular wasn't that great and the steak is why you go to a steakhouse. I have visited Rare before and had the rib cap which was very delicious. The mushrooms, grilled octopus, cheesecake and tableside bananas foster were delicious. The drinks were fine. The horseradish potato dauphine were bland, the fried Brussels sprouts were oily, and the tomahawk was fatty and poorly seasoned. We have had tomahawk steaks at other establishments in DC that were better. For the price point we were expecting a better all around meal.
Pricy but great. Would have been a little better if the Bernie Bro at the next table hadn't been quite so loud.
