We’ve been to many great steakhouses and this one will be added to our list! The service was especially awesome!
I have been to Rare Several times but was disappointed with our last visit. Our service was really slow and it took a long time for the food. The Valet was also very back up and it caused another really long wait. We ended up getting our own car. This will not stop us from going to Rare again. We always treat ourselves to the Waygu and it was especially great on Saturday night.
Unexpectedly great meal - lot of rare cuts that are prepared very well. Not expected in a smaller city like Milwaukee. Service was great and has the feel of an old-school traditional steakhouse. Highly recommended!
Had an amazing dining experience here. Our server, Chase I believe was his name, was outstanding and very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very delicious and the cocktails were too. I had the dry aged tomahawk which was cooked perfect to medium rare, and served sliced in a board. Bananas foster was served table side with some awesome presentation as well.I do wish they had a dress code though, when out dining at such a fine restaurant you don’t expect to see people in camouflage crocs and shorts.
Dining experience was phenomenal!
We had a very wonderful experience at Rare as we celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary. Great steaks, great service. All good!!!
Just a real treat, A+ from beginning to end. Spot on service, and all food was outstanding from the seasonal salad and appetizers to the main courses and on thru Cherries Jubilee.
Everything was Great! Definite will be returning!!!!
Excellent food and service. Our server Raj was outstanding in his explanations of the menu, and attentive to all our needs. A place you want to give you service to!
The food was outstanding and the service top notch! Justin took excellent care of us. I highly recommend the Bottleneck cut.
Only negative was the coffee, didn't care for it.
The food perfectly prepared.
Super overpriced for what little you get. Steaks were bland. The bread puff things were an awesome suprise.
Great food and amazing service.
Food was absolutely outstanding. Oysters rockefeller were suberb, the little bits of bacon just sent it over the top. Watermelon/arugula salad was so light and fresh, small bits of goat cheese were a fine addition. The steak was by far the best I've ever had: so tender, flavorful and juicy. Added truffle butter as well, so delicious. Service was excellent; overall well worth the money spent, will definitely visit again.
When we recently visited, we ordered the tomahawk steak 'medium. It was served very rare and extremely fatty without the fat being rendered. It was gross. As far as the value, the steak was $110 for 36 oz but it did not seem like much meat for the price - I think the bone was a huge part of the 36 ounces. The pop ups were fabulous and the service (Joshua(?) or Jason (?)) was very good! But we would not come back because of the very poor quality of the steak.
A night to remember!
Loved the atmosphere and the food was excellent--steak, oysters, lobster bisque. Highly recommend for dinner!
Service was top notch, lobster great ,oysters super fresh. The steak was awful. $66 for a New York strip I could have gotten better from Walmart. Don't think we will return.
First visit. Valet parking. Began with excellent drinks at the bar. (Ginger pear martini.). Highly recommend the lobster bisque! One steak and one salmon dish - both excellent and nicely seasoned. Nice bottle of wine (under $50). Also a complimentary birthday creme brûlée. Very delicate, crunchy topping. Attentive, friendly service. Back to the bar for coffee. A new favorite place for special occasions!
Buns are soooo good!!!
While the steaks were prepared to perfect temperature, I don’t know that we would order three accompaniments next time. Way too much food and no way to have room for dessert!
We suffered through the Door County Cherry Cheesecake.
It was my 5 year wedding anniversary. Took my wife Laura there used open table which I use all the time and when we got there our reservation wasn’t in the system ? When RARE called us at 2 confirmation I called back and confirmed so the open table app must have not relay the message back to RaRE etc other then tht hiccup the service from Quinn our waitress was 10-10 she was amazing it was one of the first times me and my wife have had dinner and been down town since the epidemic hit and we have always wanted to try but never got a chance! We were so happy with the the steaks we orders and the wine she recommended me a wine hater I loved the bottle and had some. Don’t let Quinn leave she ask for a raise give it to her she will one day be a manager or own a restaurant she was the most attentive most knowledgeable person to have ever served us we eat all over the world Mexico Dominican etc thank you make sure you tell her show her how happy we were thank you
We were greeted in the bar area where we had a private table for two. It was beautiful - had never been there. The professional, warm, kind bartender let us take time to acquaint ourselves with the menu. We got our drinks and shortly thereafter, and appetizer - excellent calamari! It might be a steak house, but it is hard to get great fish all over, so we chose the Chilean Sea Bass, a phenomenal choice. I will surely try a steak next run, but I've never had Sea Bass as perfect as this was, served in a delicious bed of spinach. I will be back, and hopefully OFTEN!
I spent $160 on the worst steak I’ve ever had. The wagyu was cold and slimy. We ordered our ribeye medium and it came out neon red and cold. We would never go back. I never write reviews I just can’t get over this one
The food was wonderful. The staff was very pleasant. Great ambiance.
Wonderful atmosphere & food. Had a great time
Terrible beginning to end
We had phenomenal service from Neal. We were unfortunately very disappointed in our steak. For $70 a steak we felt our food came out very fast and realized that our steaks were very rare inside. One was supposed to be medium rare and one medium and both were completely rare inside. We didn’t want to send them back so we just packed them up and took them home but we did expect a better steak from the restaurant and we don’t think we will back. The banana fosters was delicious though!
Lobster bisque didn’t have any lobster in it.
Top-notch service for this birthday dinner. We started with drinks at the bar and the bartender was very engaging and clearly experienced. Dinner was spectacular as always. Our waiter, Casey, brought the right balance of casual and professional to the table.
Great food, service and Friday night wine special!
The food, ambience and wait staff (Chase) were amazing! If you want a top notch meal in MKE, this is it!! Wow!!
I brought two coworkers here on a business dinner. I’ve been to many fine steakhouses and can say this was easily the worst. The lone bright spot was the crab cake which was really wonderful. Our waiter was very nice as well, but clearly inexperienced.
1) our waiter literally read the entire menu to us. This lasted five minutes. I understand going over the highlights but this was over the top.
2) the sides (Mac n cheese and Brussels) were... meh
3) the steaks tasted like they were from pick n save. For $70 a steak, I was expecting far more.
For being the most expensive steakhouse in the city, you need to up your game.
The steak really blew me away. We got a dry aged porterhouse and it might have been one of the best steaks I have ever had. Incredible flavor and texture. All else with the food was great - salads, crabcake, sides and dessert. Highly recommend it as a place for steak.
I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday, that was not the best decision. The waiter did not make me feel welcomed nor was the food to my liking. The lobster bisque was horrible, the was a heavy tomato flavor and the bisque was not creamy. My brussel sprouts were extremely burnt. I can’t say that I would ever return to this establishment.
Husband's steak was once again outstanding, I had the Chilean Sea bass and while good it was a little bland tasting; however, was cooked perfectly
Amazing steaks and wonderful server!
Have been to Rare several times. This was a big let down in the experience that I’m used to. We had reservations and seated right away but it took about 10 minutes for anyone to come talk to us and get our drink order. Popovers came and there was a hair baked into one of them (“fixed” by a free desert). The olive wagyu special was a waste of money ($60/ounce) in comparison to the regular wagyu ($35/2 ounces). Would’ve been better off with the traditional filet. The quality here has gone down since my last several visits. Disappointing.
Our celebration meal at Rare was outstanding. The food was wonderful. But most important, the service by Peter was phenomenal. He deserves many kudos attention paid to every detail. I highly recommend Rare for any occasion. You will not be disappointed!
