A hop from the Mornington Peninsula’s new luxury hotel, Jackalope, Rare Hare Wine & Food Store presents the best of the Peninsula's food, wine, produce and views.

This new home of established wine label ‘Willow Creek’ comprises indoor and outdoor dining overlooking the vine-laced hills and across to the hotel’s striking silhouette. With room for 90 tails, Rare Hare is a restaurant, wine bar, and produce store - approachable in atmosphere and rich in experiences.

The menu draws heavily on the property’s kitchen garden and relationships with local producers. Stanaway cooks with a good sense of curiosity and brings a tempting balance of heat, acidity, depth of flavour, and texture to each plate. A hand-crafted wood fired oven takes pride of place in the dining space, adding character to the mood and food.

We had a special birthday with 30 guests, including vegan and gluten free dietary requirements. The staff were very accommodating with every aspect and helped make this occasion so special. Nothing was too much trouble. Super helpful with the cake. We had a set menu, the food was perfect. Overall the Rare Hare was outstanding.

Rare Hare is amazing! The service, staff and food was outstanding. We had 2 large group bookings over 2 days with lots of varied dietary requirements and they catered for everything we required. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Very accommodating staff and wonderful dinner experience. We had the set menu, and it catered for vegetarians well. Although the mains dishes were both not vegetarian. Staff were very friendly and accommodated a cake and signed a birthday card which was very nice and made the evening special. Would recommend it for sure, and will likely go back.

Wonderful food, excellent service and an amazing, funky venue but INCREDIBLY LOUD. Such a shame - we could barely hear each other speak. I'll try it again perhaps for lunch next time but the noise levels really marred the experience. Hope they can do something to fix it.

I visited for a social catch up with a larger group and so booked online (we did have to change our original plans because it was booked out so far in advance!) I arrived and was told that although I'd called to update numbers the day before the booking hadn't been changed. I was also informed that normally a set pricing is involved for larger groups, but I hadn't been informed of this. Thankfully they accommodated us on both fronts. Our server, Jack, was friendly and very gracious with us given that some of the group took a while to arrive. We ordered a number of dishes to share and had been advised that they would be staggered- nevertheless dishes did come out relatively quickly (but unfortunately our vegetable dishes didn't last until the mains arrived). The food was beautifully presented and flavours well balanced- standouts included the eggplant, beef cheek and duck with crispy skin. We also enjoyed sharing a bottle of the Rare Hare "White". Both the meringue with rhubarb and milk chocolate brown butter tart were excellent. Unfortunately the noisy environment wasn't very conducive to conversation- but our view of the vineyard was absolutely stunning. I had also thought payment likely to be a headache with sharing but thankfully Jack came around the table to take individual EFTPOS payments. All in all, a wonderful meal at a stunning venue. Not suited for quiet conversation, but lively and fun. Thank you!!
