Great place to eat, oysters are superb.entrees are about $10 overpriced compared to competition.
Amazing. Terrific and knowledgeable staff helped us choose wine and entrees well. Will return again and again!
Oysters were great, other dishes so-so. Porchetta was over spiced, dry and tough.
We celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary at Rappahannock. It was our first time there, and it was delicious!!!
We always enjoy Rappahannock Restaurant. One of our favorites in Richmond.
I had the tune entrée, which was tasty. My wife had the beet salad and found it disappointing. She chose the beet salad because nothing else on the menu appealed to her. She would have chosen one of the seafood dishes, but did not because of the horseradish or curry that accompanied them.
Service was slow. Food was pretty good, not amazing. Environment was loud. Cost does not match the experience.
Hi Jonathan, I am so sorry to hear you had a poor experience with us. Please look for a private message.
Wonderful service and delish oysters! We sat in the room to the left of the main entrance and it was a little quieter, perfect for date night. :)
Hi Catie, thank you for spending your date night with us! Can't wait to have you back soon.
Great meal all around. Oysters were fantastic, tuna tartare and beef tartare done well. Rainbow trout was excellent. Great wines too
thank you for the great review! We can't wait to have you back soon.
The table we were seated at was not an inviting view of the kitchen. The hostess should ask if we preferred standard or high top seating. The food and service was excellent.
Hi Susan - I have updated your OpenTable profile with your seating preferences! We can't wait to have you back soon. I'm glad you enjoyed everything.
WOW, our group was extremely impressed with the exceptional customer service, attentiveness of the staff and presentation/quality of the food!
They definitely have up'd their game! Our business meeting was a success and will be back again!
THANK YOU!
Hi Annamarie - thank you for the stellar review! We can't wait to have you back soon.
too expensive for what it is, despite the food is good but nothing extraordinary. Bread (4 slices) for $ 4, too expensive
Great ambiance and perfect spot to have a drink at bar before. Food is great, but mainly seafood options.
Tremendous waitstaff!
Knowledgeable, confident, professional, courteous & prompt.
Delicious!
Food was incredible! Every dish was more delicious than the last. Perfect portions, gorgeous presentation.
Highly recommend!
Thank you so much for the 5 star review! I'm so glad you enjoyed our Valentine's Day prix fixe menu. Can't wait to have you back soon.
The food was good but over priced for the portions and not anything special to go tell everyone you know about. We reserved bar seating on here and when we arrived we went to the host. She was searching for a place to seat us and I guess she couldn’t find anything and just sighed and said “whatever” and went ahead to seat us. Unfortunately when we reserved bar seating, we didn’t expect to be placed in front of the oyster shucking station. It made it almost impossible for our servers to collect our plates or serve our food without the potential to drop everything and also hard to speak and hear what our servers were saying. It also took away from the experience when I tray of old and finished drinks are sitting a foot an a half from your meal.
Came here for their valentines pre fixe menu - everything was delicious! Just the right portions as well. I had the shrimp tortellini and my husband the beef short rib - we honestly fought over which was better. We did the wine pairing as well, which I highly recommend.
Hi Megan - thank you for spending your Valentine's Day with us! I'm so glad you enjoyed everything and we can't wait to have you back soon.
We got to the restaurant and found out that it was a Valentines Day prix fixe. It was $65 a person. That was fine except that our food was only okay and honestly, it just wasn’t enough food. I had the shrimp tortellini, which was not hot, and there were literally only 4 on my plate. My husband’s tuna was extremely salty. We were very underwhelmed. As a party of 4, we spent almost $400 and no one felt like it was anywhere near worth that. Maybe the special menu was to blame, but I was disappointed. The service was excellent, which was the bright spot.
We did not realize that there was going to be a price fix menu and were not prepared to eat that much. I was disappointed that fact was not mentioned on the web site.
- Waited 40 minutes to be seated with a reservation and not able to get drinks while we waited.
- When seated, we were placed by the front door cold and crowded by the 12+ people waiting for their late reservation.
- After requesting to switch tables, we were moved to a different table by the other front door.
- Did not receive 2nd course in the 4 course pre-fixe dinner! We literally were not served 25% of our $65 pre-fixe meal.
- Charged for appetizers which we were under the impression were on the house after our trouble. The bread wasn’t even complimentary.
- We had a drink at Chez Foushee down the street before dinner and are regretting that we didn’t just stay there.
We got caught up in the Valentine's Day debacle, where an 8:45 reservation slowly became 9:30. Have to say the staff were very good, both the folks behind the bar who looked after us as we waited, and the front of house folks who were unfailing polite, despite some pretty annoyed would-be diners. Food was good, and we were offered some non-Prix Fixe options, unlike others, which my partner availed of. We rarely go out on V-Day, for precisely these reasons, but were from out of town so had no choice.
Perfection. Even on Valentine's Day. And that's hard to pull off.
❤❤❤
I made a reservation well in advance but we still had to wait 30 minutes for bar seating. The food all tasted great but the servings for the pre fixe menu were very small. I left feeling hungry. The wine pairing was excellent.
The special menu on Feb 14th was not worth the money as the portion size on the tortellini main course was very small..more like an appetizer.
Mentioned to management and was told price is based on protein cost.
Nothing else was offered so I went home hungry.
Valentine’s Day. As always, first the good: My wife and I always enjoy Rappahannock before the theater, as it is only two blocks from easy parking in front of the Carpenter at 5pm (hint). The chefs here are innovative, and always talented in their selections. The servers are always friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. It’s never too loud to hear what your date is saying. As far as last night, happily no exceptions to the above. I booked a table for the two of us a couple of months ago happily in time for Valentine’s Day. On February 5, 9 days out, I received a voicemail from a young lady at the restaurant saying that they had just released their Prix Fixe menu of four courses, and that an À la carte menu was also available for that evening. We learned after being seated that prix fixe WAS the menu, with À la carte menu being only their signature oysters, and a few other small items. We feel a bit misled here, as “AN À la carte menu being offered as well...” (direct quote Fr voicemail 9 days prior) is not the same as THE À la carte menu, which one might out of familiarity allow was still on offer. Neither was there an email saying exactly what was on the new menu, and what the à la carte menu contained. Neither was it online anywhere that I could find. Now, the food was delicious as always. But it was incredibly small, even for my wife, and she is usually full after the entrée, and often has to let me finish hers (yay). So, when she mentions that she feels “had,“ it is to my great displeasure that I feel that I have to write this. I am neither litigious nor a complainer, but this smacks of bait and switch. Dear folks at Rappahannock, I know it’s Valentine’s Day, but in spite of Valentine’s Day, and perhaps especially because it’s Valentine’s Day, may you please consider that your last impression upon us may be the last impression you have upon us. CAVEAT: customer may wish to call any restaurant booking for Valentine’s Day to get the full skinny.
Service was awful. He left to go move his car and never came to our table. I had to get up and go to the bar to get more water. Awful experience on Valentine’s Day !
This was our 3rd visit - combo birthday/Valentine's dinner. Food is always fantastic, this evening particularly good. Our server was so energetic and positive and gave us great suggestions for our entrees. I had the rainbow trout for a change of pace - absolutely mouthwatering. We shared the two-scoop gelato option for dessert - the perfect ending to a wonderful meal.
Oysters were good, tuna meal was great. My wife ordered steak and it was ok. Think offering a $1 off for a glass of wine during Happy Hour does NOT make it a Happy Hour.
A complimentary birthday desert was offered and appreciated. Otherwise service was a bit flat.
Rappahannock is one of our favorite seafood restaurants. Food is delicious as always. Oysters, trout, tuna, steak, cheese plate, salads, and a couple of cocktails dressed the dinner table throughout the evening. All was delicious. Our waiter was energetic, attentive, and had a great attitude. Very good night out thanks Rappahannock!
Always great food and great service at Rappahannock!!
We had the fish en papillote but the Cobia was fishy
Shrimp tasted strongly of lighter fluid or grill cleaner.
Great strawberry ice cream! One of the best I have ever had.
The service was attentive without being oppressive. We enjoyed every course, which our server helped us customize to our preferences. A delightful dining experience!
Loved the food and ambiance. We got oysters, the octopus appetizer and the paella and all were delicious. A bit expensive for a date night but worth it. Will return for special occasions.
Delicious food and some of the best service I've ever received! Highly recommend the scallops and raw oysters!
Difficult to submit a review when the food was fine, but the experience was very disappointing. Made a 6:15 reservation on Open Table, and included a note that we had a later commitment, and needed to be out by 7:30. Asked if this would be a problem - no response. Arrived and told hostess we had a tight schedule. Assured us we'd be fine. Seated at 6:30 for our 6:15 reservation. Told the server about our time frame. Long story short - food arrrived at 7:20. Had to inhale our dinner and bolt out. Not the fun, pre-show dinner we had hoped for. Restaurant shouldn't have accepted a reservations that couldn't accommodate.
We finished our meal around 7:05. Asked for dessert menu but noted we needed to leave by 7:30. Waitress said there wasn’t time, that everyone would be leaving then and it would be at least ten minute wait for desserts. Felt it could have been handled better....especially after what we paid for four scallops and a smear of sweet potato.
Ada was our server and she was outstanding!! She knew all of the food items very well and she did an excellent job recommending items to comply with my food allergies (gluten & dairy).
Great service and fantastic oysters!!!’
