Rappahannock - Richmond Ratings and Reviews
Given its reviews, my experience was disappointing. The food was bland, and not really as described by either the menu or our server. For example - fisherman's stew was more like fisherman's (thin) broth. The grilled bread was more burned than grilled, and affected the overall flavor. Although we don't normally use salt, the omission of salt/pepper on the tables seems a bit pretentious when food is not seasoned well.
GONE WAY DOWN HILL! We have enjoyed Rappahannock for years, but our last meal was sub-par. The (pleasant) waiter did not know the wines. The wines seemed to have a 100% mark-up ... and the selection of whites was lousy. The bread was served cold. Three of our party of 4 ordered the scallop entree, and everyone's was extremely over-salted.
Everything was great!!! Wasn’t a fan of the tartare but the octopus, baked oysters, and entrees made up for it all 👌🏻 We had a busboy remove our wine when we went to smoke but the waitress and management fixed everything, we will return. Only thing I would have suggested was to acknowledge the occasion but all in all was a great experience!!!
Dinner with friend before a show. We had to eat early to get to show on time, and it was in the middle of a very noisy happy hour where we were seated right next to the very noisy bar. Made dinner conversation challenging. Is probably quieter later in evening. But lesson learned - would not recommend for pre-show meals.
As always, the food at Rappahannock was outstanding. The creativity and execution here are top notch.
Cocktails and spirits were on point, too.
Only 2 complaints from this visit:
The wood fire oven seems like it could be better ventilated. Our eyes were burning a bit and we smelled like a campfire when we got home. I don’t remember this always being the case there.
Also - the wine list had generally high prices for this market, and a bit of a hole in it in the $35-$50 bottle range. The bottles I saw in this range were all BTG options, and were virtually the same as the BTG price multiplied by the glasses in a bottle (no incentive to buy a bottle). Would love to see more bottle options at $35-$50 where there is plenty of quality to compliment Rappahanock’s excellent food.
Very creative chef, excellent service. Good vibe with energetic and foodie group. Pretty noisy like most city restaurants but comfortable seating. Only real complaint is that need to spend money to improve exhaust system, clothes smelled of smoke from cooking. Too ruff for a place of quality and high price.
Our first visit but certainly not our last. Adrianna was absolutely the best. She explained the menu in detail and made us feel very comfortable and certainly not in any rush to turn the table. A nice tall table with a great view of the street to do our favorite activity (people watch) and enjoy the background noise of folks at the bar.
Beverages came to the table quickly and then with appetizers and then main course it was all perfect timing. The paella and the grilled scallops were to die for and I'm looking forward to another visit to try the other dishes. Oysters are harvested locally and lived up to their reputation. Delicious. Enjoy you visit. We did.
Nice restaurant for cocktails and a meal with 1-4 people. It is a very loud restaurant so if you are looking for a quiet intimate spot this isn't it. Also a large party would not be able to hear a conversation one to two people over at a large table. I always enjoy my entree selection but the apps are sometimes lacking in creativity and flavor. Desserts are usually very good too.
We have visited Rappahannock a few times in the past. We eat out several nights a week and I have never encountered a host that was so unaware. We had to attend theater at 7:30 so we made a 6 pm reservation. We found a parking sapce quickly so we arrived 15 mins early. Restaurants usually love you to be early. There were many 2 tops open when we arrived. The host said he couldn't seat us until the time of our reservation and to go to the bar. I didn't want to get into an argument with my wife standing there so we did as told. At 6 I had to go and remind him to seat us. This issue spoiled the rest of the evening as I was very unhappy. I have mentioned it to a few high end restaurant owners and they were shocked. The server was great.
Had reservations on a busy concert Saturday night. Arrived ten min late but noted they called me to check and still held my table though i didnt see the call.
Waitress was very attentive on a busy night
Food was great. Though seafood is their thing, we had the braised oxtail and tuna dishes, and while both were great, the oxtail was amazing. Melt in your mouth tender and hearty on a mild fall night.
Cocktail and beer selection is good, not great. Wont leave you wanting but better cocktail bars in Richmond.
Seating is tight with center bar concept but not uncomfortable.
