This was my second time at Rappaahannock, although my first actually sitting down and eating properly. I love the space; its modern without being too much so. The service was really outstanding- our server went out of the way to get our order in before a mega-table seated next to us. But the food was meh - small portions and expensive prices.
great food, overpriced for size to portions.
Our Server Jason was super! Very thorough in explaining the menu and very courteous and friendly!!! The food was very delicious!!!
The food was FANTASTIC as always but the grill from the kitchen made the restaurant smoky. I could smell it in my hair and clothes when I left.
The food was good. I had the scallops that were yummy but the dish was just okay. The wine was good, but there was an intense amount of sediment in the bottom of my glass which was unpleasant.
Another good night at Rappahannock. We started out with the Oysters and Pearls. That was a hit with both of us. The sweetness of the orange and the salty goodness of the trout caviar were beautifully paired with the oysters. Once again, I got a dish I would not make at home. While I would make the pan seared Rockfish, I would not have begun to have made the side dish. It was delightful and earthy, showing beautiful contrast to the rockfish. She had wood grilled monk fish. It too was perfectly cooked and well prepared. 2 glasses of cava, bread, and a serving of Gelati Celeste, about $150 with tip. Completely fair for a night at the Symphony.
Smokey. Delicious though. Service was only fair
We were in the Richmond area and this was our first choice for dinner. We were not disappointed. My husband is a great fan of oysters and said his selection of three different local oysters was excellent. Every aspect of this dinner was outstanding from cocktails to dessert.
I really like the food but it’s been so difficult to eat here the past few times and this time could not enjoy the meal because my eyes were watery and burning due to the smoke. I don’t think I can go back until the air clears up. I want to be able to enjoy a meal without eyes irritated. It’s too bad I won’t be back anytime soon.
I was disappointed. I got oysters and a salad. My wife got the scallops. The scallops were of good size and had good flavor but they were way over priced for just (4). The salad was small and not much to it for the cost. The oysters were so small (1"x 0.5" to a large of 1.25"x0.5") for the price I would recommend they look at getting their oysters from Barham's Seafood his oysters are huge (2" to 2.5"x1"). The ambiance was the setting of a pub no exclusive seating. I will not be recommending this place to any friends or family.
Way too expensive for the amount of food brought to the table. A $30 entree should be considerably more than the size of an appetizer. Charging $5 for bread is ludicrous as well. I will not dine in your establishment again.
This restaurant always has excellent waiters. On a week night the noise level is not bad, but on the weekend it is better to have a table for two, so that you can get your heads together to talk. A conversation with several people at the table is difficult.
Great service! Loved the atmosphere and the Center bar! The food was amazing! Highly recommend the oysters. Drinks were on point! We will go back when we are in town!
My wife's favorite. The go-to place for any seafood lover.
It is extremely smoke filled from the wood burner with a visible low cloud hanging over the restaurant. After a while your eyes start to burn and it is hard to breathe. Food was not great and very bland for the price. After leaving everything on us smelled of smoke.
Great cocktails. Excellent and innovative presentation of fresh fish.
Three main entrees unavailable.
We went early evening on a Sunday night only to find three of their most interesting menu items were no longer available. Our waiter was a nice guy, but disorganized and scattered. He brought a cup of coffee that was stone cold... He kept disappearing and did not check back to see how we were doing. We had to wave our arms in the air to get any attention. We had a relative from DC with us and her comments were not flattering. Not a very positive first visit. However, the dessert was super.
Some of the food was sub-par. For the price this is not worth going to again. Drinks were great. Very smoky inside. Disappointed because many of my friends have raved about this restaurant.
Food was good, atmosphere was very smokey, we had reservations and it took over 30 min to get service
Great spot. Solid food, delicious cocktails. We had great service. A scene. Downsides are that it's pricey and the air is smoky from the wood-fired cooking.
Outstanding, creative food, appetizers to desert. The hot foods were served steaming...to all of us.
The food here is amazing, a bit pricey, but amazing! The staff is very friendly. Be warned, it can get pretty loud in there.
Another great meal at Rappahannock. Only drawback was that we were seated next to the podium and entrance to the new bar area. There was to much going on that it became distraction.
Excellent grilled Octopus & Whole grilled fish!
No words!!!!!outstanding fantastic incredible perfect
The best of the Chesapeake in the middle of downtown Richmond. Fresh oysters and fish are the specialties though I opted for chicken this time and it was delicious.
Always love their raw bar. Portions are good. Drinks outstanding. Waitress was wonderful
Food and oysters were fantastic. Only downside was that the kitchen isn’t well ventilated being right in the middle of the restaurant, so my eyes were getting watery from the smoke.
Rappahannock is very pricey for what they serve. Entrees were very good, but the oysters were tiny (smaller than a quarter) for 2.50 each. Oysters are what they are known for, but better places to go for oysters for much less. Probably won’t go back. Too many other great choices.
Great food and apps. Service fantastic.
Excellent food and cocktails. Large wait staff that is friendly and attentive, would highly recommend.
Food was great. An interesting menu.
Birthday - I was disappointed- the scallops were drowning in what was (purportedly) s Brown butter vinaigrette- it was sweet and cloying. The rockfish and oyster hour ride had a lovely sauce / not an oyster in sight . The bread was delicious- the best dish was the baked oysters . The tuna tartare was fresh and tasteless.
I don’t foresee another visit. When Rappahannock opened in rva it was very good / it’s now average to good
The food was good. The tuna tartare was wonderful. The cocktails were absolute crap. Nice selection on the bubbly though
The server was friendly, but the food was sub- standard. Wouldn’t recommend.
We love heading to any offerings from the Rappahannock oysters folks and this downtown Richmond hotspot is one of our faves. Along with some of the best oysters in the world, the creative seafood offerings and more are better than ever. Whatever whole fish is on the menu that night...get it!
Excellent food, atmosphere and service!
The restaurant is smokey from the wood fire cooking. The food was excellent oysters from the region, a great ceviche, and a fabulous monk fish. Highly recommend the olive oil cake. You are going to pay for your meal but it is like nothing anywhere else. The waitress made the experience. Trust your waiter, they know the menu.
Food was great but pricey. Very limited non-seafood choices
