It was a very nice experience but much pricier than expected. We felt the food was tasty but not incredible. We shared a beet salad (which was the highlight of our meal), One small plate of baked oysters, four raw oysters and scallop entire. And we each had a glass of Prosecco. With tip we spent well over $100.00. Our server was excellent but Will probably never go back.
We were placed close to a fan that was so loud we could barely hear each other. Had we known it, we would have asked for a table as far as possible from this area (if not in the other room which is quieter). This ruined it for me.
All around wonderful restaurant every time with wonderful drinks and amazing food!
Pro-tip—>Look for Josephine behind the bar for an out of this work outstanding drink! Ask for something off the cocktail list or have her mjx you up a surprise with her genius “dealers choice”. Either way you’ll get a tantalizing concoction you won’t regret!
Food and service good Unfortunately we were seated near the kitchen, and the low frequency wail of the exhaust fan was a bit too loud.
Excellent server very knowledgeable on wine cocktail and food recommendations! The dishes were amazing full of wonderful flavors and very fresh fish. Can’t wait to go back when we are in town again.
We felt from cocktails to entrees, the value was not very good. Prices were quite high for Richmond and while I do not consider size of portion if the quality is there, I would say portions do factor if the quality is not exceptional. Will only get specific with one dish - the wood-grilled octopus on burnt sourdough sauce w/frisee - was TOP NOTCH!! Found the paella as a whole (despite some standout flavors) lacking and disappointing.
Great food. Rockfish was excellent and the roasted peppers and cilantro paired nicely.
The service at Rappahannock is top shelf, as is the food. We really appreciated the fact that even though much of the main room is a bar, there are no TV's to detract from the experience. They also keep the music
at a volume where it is easy to have a conversation. We also like being able to watch the amazing chefs at work.
Should I find myself in Richmond again, I would go there without hesitation.
Our waiter Nicholas was outstanding. Excellent service. First-class experience. Thank you.
Great service, creative preparation, but very noisy
Great lunch on Friday. Oysters, mussels, crab cake were incredible!! Off menu cocktail, " Snapdragon", awesome! Ethan took great care of us.
Didn’t even say happy birthday.
My visit at Rappahanock was wonderful. My waiter Jason did an excellent job. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about the menu. I will return. Thank you
Great Atmosphere, Good Food, Small Portions and Very Expensive!
We arrived about 10 minutes early. There were plenty of tables available but the host asked us to wait at the bar. We were finally seated about 10 minutes after our reserved time. It was a little odd but still pleasant. Food was good atmosphere was nice
The wait stage was top notch knowing the menu, wine and even what plays and shows are showing near by... if you so desire! The food was absolutely amazing from the flavors to the presentation.
Date raved about her scallops and jicama slaw. My paella was perfect. Craig was an exceptional server, totally knowledgeable about the ingredients/sources. Coconut cake dessert was the perfect finishing touch
Oysters were delicious. Also had the paella which was alright but i wouldn't order again. It didn't WOW me. but the ambience was low key and fun to be in. And that is why i would recommend coming again.
We enjoyed everything....especially the oysters! it was nice atmosphere and good service.
Food and service was outstanding but a bit pricey.
Always a great experience! The food never disappoints and the service is always exceptional. Noise level can be high at times but we know that going in and will always be regulars here. LOVE Rappahannock!!!
Way too highly priced for the small amount of food. Very disappointed even after giving it a second chance so won't go back again.
Katey was a fantastic server. Ashley put us at a window table as requested. The night was terrific along with the total experience!
Food portions were small and overpriced. Will not be recommending or returning.
Always great food. Good atmosphere.
Never disappointed. Once again, all the cocktails, appetizers and entrees were spot on. Fantastic “day-after” Valentines Day special meal.
My husband and I love to go out to eat. We've eaten in many high dollar restaurants down to cheap eats. We went to Rappahannock for our Valentine's Day dinner (one day late). We were so disappointed in the food. The service was above par. Atmosphere hip, but loud. The food we received was extremely overpriced, small servings, and WAY over seasoned. I got the rockfish, which I usually LOVE. The fish was cooked to perfection, but the spiced topping was overbearing and way too peppery. I had to fight indigestion all night with the spices back firing on me. My husband had the scallops. There were 4 for the entree. He ate those in 2 seconds. The scallops had a burnt taste from them being charbroiled and they charged $35 for the plate. We had scallops from an Eastern Shore shop that we cooked ourselves and they were much better. We paid less for about 20 of them! We asked for bread and to our surprised were charged for the bread. The bright part of the night were the desserts. Gelati Celesti ice cream (ironically not their product), which you can never go wrong. We also ordered the apple crisp, which was also well done and very good!
Now, we did not order oysters which they are known for, but we didn't have an appetite for them.
Extremely disappointed. Super overpriced for the quality of the food. We will not return.
The food and service were excellent! Just wish the pricing was a little lower and the room lighting a little higher.
Overpriced but still pleasant Valentine’s Day.
The four course prix fixe meal was $ 70. The food was good but not THAT good. The oysters on the half shell appetizer were barely legal size. We recently enjoyed a three course prix fixe meal at Acacia Midtown that was every bit as good at less than half that price. We’ll not do that again at Rappahannock.
We went to Rappahannock for dinner on Wednesday and it was indescribable delicious! The hostess greeted us and welcomed us and had kept our table for us. We were delayed due to traffic and she made us feel so welcome! Theron was our server and we loved him. He was new to Richmond (from Memphis) and had worked here for a few months. He took our drink order first, then explained the appetizers to us. We had the cheese plate and the oysters were out of this world ! On to dinner!! We had Rockfish and the stew was filled with oysters and what a beautiful presentation !! He checked on us often and then we had dessert, the apple cobbler and chocolate torte!!! So delicious and we will certainly go back. Restaurant was packed and everyone was happy and enjoying dinner and drinks!!!! Hope we get Theron again!!! He was attentive, knowledgeable and nice to us❤️❤️
The oysters were excellent (high salinity ones in particular). Good service. Outstanding ceviche, and it was different than what I had a month ago. The flourless chocolate cake was great for me since I’m gluten free.
Such a great place with fantastic food & superb crafted cocktails! Can’t wait to go back!
I wanted to love it but for me it missed. I would try it again though. There was sand in my seafood paella and it was garnered with a heaping dollop of a mayo concoction amongst other things I didn’t recognize and was not fond of. My husband had a whole Bronzino, had it been served sans the bones, skin. Head and tail it would have been wonderful. Instead he spent all his time trying to pick pieces of fish out that were suitable to eat.
Exceptional staff and experience. Food was good, but a bit overvalued.
Good but so loud it was hard to talk
A most enjoyable dinner with family. Staff was very attentive and patient with many questions regarding the menu. Food was delicious and presentation attractive. All over a wonderful evening. I thank everyone at Rappahannock for their efforts.
All good for business lunch. Disappointed in tuna melt but it was my choice; it was good but not great.
A little noisy as had a conf call lunch.
We went to Rappahannock Thursday evening before a show. We arrived at 5:37 for a 5:45 reservation., our party of 4 was all present. The hostess refused to seat us until 5:45 even though there were many open tables because she said they were booked and she couldn't seat us early. I told her it was only 8 minutes and we would wait to order we just wanted to sit down vs. having to stand by the door. When we were seated we waited quite awhile before our waiter arrived. The restaurant was very loud we could barely hear each other speak. The food was good but the portion was very small and over priced for the size of the portion. I don't think I would go back, especially on a night when there's a show at the Carpenter Center.
It was an excellent end to a distressing day. Our server (Mona) was so amazing-she was very attentive and was able to make suggestions on the fly when required. The atmosphere was perfect and the cocktails were yummy. Can't wait for our next visit.
