I;m from the Chesapeake Bay and PICKY when it comes to oysters, and this place is the real deal. Great food, great cocktails, great service.
We come here often, and it never disappoints. For our table of 5, we shared the small seafood tower, about 2 dozen of the yummiest variety of oysters, the hamachi, 2 burgers (so juicy and tasty), and a burrata salad. We each had a specialty cocktail and wine. In heaven, and with the all-night happy hour pricing on a Monday night, a bargain! Service was, as usual, efficient and gracious.
We have visited all locations of this fantastic restaurants, some more than once, including this version at The Row DTLA. The only glitch during this visit was not being able to enjoy items from the lunch menu (only brunch was offers) and the menu item one of us favored was unavailable. Otherwise it was reliably great.
It is one of our favorite places. The seafood is incredibly fresh and the service is fantastic. It was my wife AND daughter's birthday and they really went out of their way to make the night special. The chef even gave my kid a little lesson about the differences in oysters!
Went here to celebrate my friends birthday. We ordered the medium tower, smoke trout deviled eggs, shisito peppers, fingerling potatoes plus drinks for all of us along with getting a dozen oysters and a dozen shrimp (there was 4of us, we pigged out). Everything was exceptional! To top it off, they brought out two gluten free desserts for the birthday girls because of gluten allergies. Also amazing! Definitely will come back. The other thing I should mention is the wait staff was friendly and of service without an attitude. Highly recommend.
Parking was plenty. Happy Hour was decent. Normal menu has a lot to choose from as well. Will go back for their oyster hour :)
Every dish we had was excellent. We had a seafood tower, lobster roll, Brussel sprouts and apple cobbler for dessert along with beer and hot tea. Can't wait till going back.
We love it every time! Crab cake was ordered twice this meal and the house oysters can't be missed!
It was my birthday and we included that in the notes and they didn’t do anything. Furthermore and more importantly, what kind of oyster bar has only 4 types of oysters.
I love here so much with high quality food and great service!
Great food but a little expensive for the portion size. Delicious though. One of the best lobster rolls I’ve had. The Brussels sprouts and the chorizo fried superb. Easy casual and cool
Post theater dinner in downtown LA, oysters, great reviews, what could be bad? Ninety minutes after we sat down to dinner, we left feeling disappointed. This Oyster Bar has so much potential which are unrealized and it needs a lot of work to get it to the point where it can be a real oyster bar. First, the oysters; a selection of only three varieties and were out of the remaining selection. A real oyster bar has a selection of many oysters from both oceans. Next, the kitchen; a well written but poorly executed menu. There were great ideas presented in the cooked food, but what came out of the kitchen was mostly tasteless and disappointing. Finally, the service; overall we felt ignored. There was one person who could take the orders, and several people who could deliver them, but only very slowly were we able to get things ordered and delivered. The staff really had no concept of their menu or wine list and were incapable of making serious recommendations of food or wine.
Clearly, this is a popular spot, but not for what it purports to be. This is not a place for either foodies or oyster lovers. This group will be disappointed.
We were very specific about wanting our appetizers before our entrees, and two of the entrees came out with one of the appetizers. One in our party had to wait 20 minutes for her entree after the others had come. To the server’s credit, he apologized and said it was his fault (rare), and the restaurant comped is on the third entree. Food was very good and outdoor table lovely. Would go back, but they need to get their timing down.
Great for large groups, specialty cocktails. Friendly staff, very accommodating.
We LOVED Rappahannock. We sat outside (which is essentially in their parking/thoroughway street) with our dog and had a great, cozy dinner. The prices were very fair for how wonderful the food was. We luckily were there on Wednesday, $1 guest oysters! The Lobster Mac and Cheese was essential, the Lobster Roll was BIG, the crispy potatoes... more roasted than crispy. Overall, we will definitely be adding this to our list of go-to dog friendly date night spots.
Rappahannock is a stylish restaurant that takes seafood to another level that is usual for most seafood restaurants. The ambience is quite stylish and the service was excellent. Our party appreciated the pace and service of the wait staff. Next time I intend to arrive early for one of their daily happy hours.
Very good “hidden secret” Oyster Bar. Recommend highly!
Very nice servers/staff and good food! A little slow on response time for additional drinks/food, but they totally made up for it with a free round of drinks for the table. Made it all better and we will be back for sure!!! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Unfortunately, the server was overbooked and we got our first round of oysters before getting our previously ordered bottle of wine. The food needs refinement. The octopus leg needs a better accompaniment than couscous. The tuna was too thick. But the biscuit was delicious.
Food was great! Great dineL.A menu too!
Overall everything including food was pretty good.
But the ROW DTLA (not related to the restaurant) area is still so quiet not that fun with lots of people at night even at weekend night, good to take pictures though, and looked like it will be better if I come when other stores are open during daytime.
Took advantage of dineLA for such a great value. We added 2 additional orders such as Oysters and Lobster MAC n Cheese. They were very generous with the lobster and very good! Ambiance is good and awesome service. To top it off 2 hours of free parking!
Fresh food. Delicious! Love the atmosphere! Recommend!
Love the vibe, the food was good, the oysters were the best. If you look at the review in infatuation, the menu has changed from when that was written. Oysters #1, Octopus #2, Biscuits #3
We had previously stumbled upon this place during a visit to The Row and had a wonderful lunch. So we went back for my birthday. We were seated quickly, ordered a beverage, and settled on a couple of salads as well as a few oysters to start off the meal. Our server seemed a little distracted. Not sure if she was new or had something else on her mind as she had to ask us to repeat parts of our order. Then we anxiously awaited our oysters.....and waited.....and waited. Suddenly we saw an order delivered to the table beside us. They had come in after us, so we knew something was up. After a few minutes, their oysters were whisked away and we realized there was a mix up in the kitchen. A nice lady stopped by to apologize for the delay and let us know our oysters would be right out.
They arrived but with one sauce...and we had ordered two...and the the sauce that was included was not either of the ones we ordered. We flagged down our server, and after a few minutes someone delivered the proper sauces to us. Our server reappeared, apologized, and said they were sending out more oysters on the house. Great! Nice gesture!! Then those showed up with the wrong sauce...yet again. Only this time, we had to ask for the correct sauce twice, delaying out meal even further. Meanwhile, I saw our salads had already been made and were still sitting around, waiting to be brought to us. Once they were delivered, you could tell that they had been dressed for a while. Not only were some of the greens starting to wilt, the crunchy croutons were already a bit soggy. But overall, the salads did not disappoint despite having sat around while the oyster blunder was dealt with.
We really enjoy this place. Since our first experience was flawless, we are looking forward to returning again...hoping that the mistakes we encountered on this second visit were a fluke.
This is still one of those amazing LA secrets. Go now before the crowd finds it.
Great food and and interesting location with plenty of parking. Perfect for a summer night!
The boys of Rappahannock consistently deliver quality food and service.
Here's the play by play.... tried the 3 different oysters - none were particularly good or bad .... biscuits took way too long to arrive - they were good, but a bit undercooked.... main courses were all outstanding, the shrimp and grits being the standout. The staff are very nice, but the service was spotty - too long to get drinks (great wine list though!), too long to get the biscuits, 3 main courses arrived together and had to wait 5 minutes for the fourth.
Overall a good experience - food was overall excellent - the hiccups in service are likely due to it being a new-ish restaurant. Would definitely go back.
It’s great fun for a foodie and catch up with a friend.
Service good, food dry and overcooked.
Several items were unavailable on the menu and we were not notified until several minutes after ordering. Our server was really good and brought out extra appetizers to make up for it. Food was tasty and we all enjoyed ourselves. Highlights are the shrimp cocktail, beet salad, and lamb and clams.
We went here for brunch and the experience was very pleasant.
The waiter was amazing and very helpful and knowledgeable. I came in for the happy hour from 4-6 but didn’t get there until 545 and they let me order off of the happy hour menu the whole time I was there. The food was AMAZING. great experience
Great happy hour. But food wa
Very nice feeling while having my birthday dinner with my family not crowded so we get to talk and have fun ! Thanks Much rappahannock oyster bar!
Casey was a nice and helpful server. The kampachi was excellent, the fried chicken with oyster stew was very tasty. The grilled trout was slightly overcooked. NOT dry but not moist.
Friendly service and very knowledgeable of their menu. The food and drink selection was ample. Everything from super Michelada to Oyster Sake sampler to Half Fried Chicken was amazing. Would recommend this restaurant.
Great service, fresh seafood, love that they explain where everything comes from.
