Great menu and amazing staff. Will definitely go again.
Oysters were excellent. Entrees were good, not great. I had the trout and my girlfriend had the carne asada fries. The trout was a nice large piece of fish, but it didn’t have much taste. Her steak was quite good, and the fries made from corn meal we’re really tasty. We also ordered the kimchi biscuits, which were good (although they didn’t have a strong taste of kimchi). We enjoyed it all with a nice bottle of vouvray. (Note that the drinks menu is wine and beer.)
My only gripe was that our entrees came out while we were still eating our oysters. We ordered two dozen oysters as a starter, so obviously that was going to take a little while. Server or the kitchen should have timed things better. Only other point I’ll make is that the restaurant is rather small. It wasn’t busy when we were there, but I’d imagine that things get a little tight at busier times.
Overall, this is definitely a good place to eat. The staff was very attentive. The atmosphere is nice. And the oysters steal the show!
Brunch on Sundays! Very good! Great drink menu as well as overall menu for brunch. We tried the burger which was great as well as the fabulous breakfast burrito.
Next time, we will come back with a group to share the seafood appetizers before the main courses. Location is great as well. Good people watching, fun location, things to do after brunch!
Rappahanock is located in a new DTLA développement called the Row. It’s a beautiful setting but we went on a saturday night and the surroundings just felt deserted. The restaurant was far from being packed too. Because of that the athmosphere here was a bit underwhelming at first but the waiters were very nice and ready to help. There is a wine specialist which is very nice, he recommended a Mexican Chardonnay that was not on the menu and we were not disappointed. Oysters were delicious, so were the shishito peppers and the burger.
Overall a place to recommend, it’s probably gonna get crowded soon as soon as people get the word.
Wonderful dining experience. We went for brunch. From the starters tk the wine and dinner everything was great. The biscuits were amazing. However the service was even better. Everyone was attentive and helpful
Stopped by for Brunch and had a great time. The service was just a tad slow, but all the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was amazing. Definitely a great and affordable place to stop if you like seafood and are looking for a casual place to relax. Patio was fantastic, and right in the middle of the ROW shopping district.
Delicious and wonderful service! Best scallops I've ever had.
Our lunch on the patio was lovely, except for the big truck that idled nearby the entire time.
Delicious oysters, great lobster roll, and 2 nice salads! Will return, but may sit inside next time.
Delicious! Highly reccomend the grilled octopus, hamachi, and lamb & clams entree. Service was decent and atmosphere was beautiful. A bit hard to find in the evening, as you have to enter the ROW DTLA complex from Alameda and walk a little bit to get to the actual restaurant. The ROW DTLA is still under construction and nothing around it so after dinner you don't really have anywhere to go besides away from the area that the restaurant is in! If you take a Lyft be sure to be dropped off at Alameda & Center - do not use their address LOL
Excellent spot for lunch at ROW DTLA. Fresh oysters and a fantastic lobster roll were standouts. A wider cocktail choice would be great but the wine list was fantastic, so no problems there.
We had Sunday brunch on a very warm day that heated up quickly to the high 80's. The restaurant accommodated our desire for a more shady and cool table outside. The service overall was outstanding.and the food was good. My Caesar salad with beef was zesty and nicely tart; more greens would have balanced the flavors better. My son's shrimp and grits was a little too sauced but tasty. The hamburger was juicy and flavorful. My husband's Lobster Benedict had generous helpings of lobster, with fried green tomato instead of bread, yummy.
The service was impeccable and the environment is cozy without being too romantic. You can sit at the bar to watch games or outside in their patio area.
Fantastic seafood in a relaxed, bright setting. We visited on a weekday lunchtime when the complex was very quiet. There are a few tables outside but the interior is bright and airy so we chose to sit inside in one of the booths, which still had the feel of being outside. Our server was excellent and very helpful and informed. The oysters were all fresh and varied in taste so definitely try them all. The lobster roll is one of the best I've had, despite being with mayo rather than butter but thankfully the mayo was sparingly used. I'll be heading back to Rappahannock DTLA soon.
For an "oyster bar", the selections are very poor, and their "seafood towers" are joke. Nothing special. Rather spend the money at The Water Grill.
A wonderfully comfortable space with easy access and parking. Several eating places around if you want drinks, coffee or dessert elsewhere. Vibe is fun, and the smorgasbord of oysters, though pricey, were yummy.
Loved it! Highly recommend. Went with a party of 6, we all loved our dishes. Great oysters. Can't say enough great things about this place.
We loved Rappahannock. Excellent food in a very cool setting at The Row. The oysters were outstanding, as was the burger.
I made dinner reservations at 9:45 and the kitchen was closing so I had to hurry up to order. The waiter tried to make up for it and was kind but I went there to celebrate my birthday and the minute I’m seated I’m told the kitchen needed my order immediately. They shouldn’t take reservations 15 minutes before closing.
Awesome food and service. The dishes are all so unique, creative, and delicious! Our favorites were the scallops, oysters, uni-corn, octopus, and cookies. Went with my husband, in-laws, and uncle and everyone was so impressed! Highly recommend this restaurant, especially for happy hour!
Great brunch. Will be back. Biscuits, oysters omg
My husband and I love oysters and I had read about this restaurant and oyster bar. The server was very knowledgeable and recommended the right kind of oysters to us. We will return with oyster loving friends.
Otherwise the menu is limited, so not for everyone. Loved the decor.
My absolutely favorite restaurant now. It was so amazing - the scallops deviled eggs and Brussels sprouts were outstanding, with the most amazing sauces. The oysters were wonderful with amazing sauces and fresh horseradish’s when we requested it. The wine list was perfect. The service, from the bus person to the waitperson were welcome in, gracious and helpful - just perfect. The ambience - the interior was beautiful but we sat on the patio - was so beautiful and relaxing. Most appreciated was that the tables were not “on top” of each other but were separated enough for privacy of conversation. While beautiful, delicious, original and fantastic there was no pretension whatsoever. This is just a fabulous restaurant and will now be a regular for us, for sure.
Crispy oysters, good wine, outdoors. A little hard to find but worth it.
Chef Erven and his team are superb. The Rapp Burger was incredible, and their oysters were the freshest, crispest & briniest as any I've had.
Fantastic! Will definitely eat here again.
The place is hard to find; do not follow Google maps instructions. But parking was easy, the service was excellent, and the ambiance cozy. We sat outdoors because the music inside was way too loud. The raw bar is great as well as all the small plates/appetizers we shared. Definitely will be back.
One of the best happy hours in the city. And literally everything on that menu I want all the time. The flavors are so fresh and vibrant. And what a terrific wine list.
Fabulous food, ambience, and service. Will be back!
New restaurant, still figuring things out
Amazing food, friendly service. There were a few large parties when we were there, which caused our food to come out a little slower than we’d have liked, but nothing crazy. The oysters were amazing! Also, getting in to the complex is kinda tricky, even for non-locals, so build in a little bit of time for that ahead of a reservation.
A very enexpected find. The parking is a bit hard to find and you feel like you’d entering someone’s private space. And I suppose you are. But worth it
We really enjoyed this place and honestly for it being nearly brand any kinks in service are to be expected. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and thoughtful. I had their oysters, they were perfect, super cold perfectly cleaned and shucked. Being from the east coast it's nice to have a perfectly executed oyster. The blue corn hush puppies were delicious. The pickled vegetable plate was excellent and the variety and flavors were executed well. It seems like they have a CIA Chef in there as the flavors were very much the cia style. The blue crab gazpacho was the only thing that was a little bit of a miss for me. The cucumbers could have been cut smaller as they were a little unmanageable and the sauce, while I understand they were trying to allow the crab (beautifully prepared) to shine through the sauce was just flat and had no flavor, a touch of acid and maybe a smoked salt or something would have made the dish a home run. This place in two or three more months will be a culinary destination in Los Angeles.
Casey was very nice and explained the menu well. Great tasting oysters, beet salad was amazing as well.
Delightfully delicious combination of fresh oysters and an eclectic array of classic supper items. Particularly great we’re the potato pancake and skirt steak (a fabulous deconstructed taco). Must try the cookies and cream dessert- a little homage to the Big Lebowski.
Cute space, great food but the initial service was a mess. It took 30 minutes to get water and the bottle of wine we ordered. It seemed like our server was overwhelmed and that they were generally short staffed (even though the restaurant was not full). We were sitting at the counter so the expediter took over. He was great and comped us some oysters.
I'm hard to please but Rappahannock Oyster Bar succeeded beyond my expectations. Good food. Great staff. Very well designed restaurant and menus. It's a place that I will go to regularly. Ideal outdoor dining on a LA summer early evening. My only suggestion would be to have some local West Coast oysters available too -- I'm sure they do sometimes but were out when I was there.
Tough to find if you haven’t been to ROW restaurants before but they were super helpful in finding restaurant and talking us though on phone. Also very understanding and helpful once we arrived. Customer service was 100% and good was great
Distinct beautiful location -- reflecting the energy and potential of the Arts District. Staff and chef are clearly focused on delivering a top-notch experience. Great menu, well-conceived dishes exhibiting creativity and total quality. I would highly recommend as a unique and memorable dinner in Los Angeles.
