Travis and Ryan Croxton debut their spinoff from the highly acclaimed Rappahannock Oyster Bar at Union Market in Washington, DC. They’ve even brought their DC Chef, Kevin Kelly, to man the kitchen at this outpost. This location in the historic Cigar Factory Building on East Bay Street, allows room for Chef Kelly to showcase more of his cuisine to a larger audience, including an incredibly unique 40 seat raw bar. Oysters grown by the Croxton’s own Rappahannock Oyster Company are accentuated, but Kelly’s signature dishes like lambs’n’clams, crabcakes, shrimp & grits and the best po’ boy you’ll ever eat are enough reasons in their own right for constant visits. Coupled with a great cocktail program and focus on local ingredients, ROB is a great place for any occasion.

Food was super. Reservations were very hard to get and then had to take Uber to avoid parking and new city. We would go back.

This was our second time dining here and was such a disappointment. First time was incredible, this time, not so much. There was one very large party, that I'm sure was holding up the kitchen, but our server was so so slow. Not sure we'll go back

Excellent service and wonderful food! Ate our way through most of the small plates and our only disappointment was getting full before we completed the task.

The atmosphere was great and the raw oysters did not disappoint. We ate at the bar and loved the copper top and had excellent service. The most impressive part of the whole experience was how I was treated with my reservation. The restaurant called to confirm and were very accommodating when I requested an earlier time. Overall great customer service, warm and inviting atmosphere, amazing oysters and great staff.

Our waitress was very nice and tried to be overly accommodating. However, I ordered shrimp and grits and was not told they were out until almost an hour after we ordered. Our food order was so delayed that our waitress ended up giving us free desserts and didn't charge two in our party for our meals, which was very kind, but it wasn't her fault. Apparently, there was not good communication between the service staff and the kitchen. We were very disappointed in our experience.

Our second time here - was much more impressed by the food this time. Happy hour appetizers were delicious and the oysters were on point (ordered 3 dozen) for the table. The whole fish was great. Docked a star because they were out of a few menu items and low on dessert options. But it was an enjoyable evening. The staff was really nice and attentive.

Staff was terrific! All were very knowledgeable about oysters, food and wine. They were all enthusiastic to share! The oysters were very delicious and sustainable. The back story of this restaurant is very interesting. We stopped for oysters, boiled shrimp and a yummy bread flight. Breads are locally baked and served with two types of butter. One butter was made with roasted jalapeños which gave the butter a delicious smoky flavor…not spicy. We enjoyed our small repast and would definitely recommend. The restaurant is located in an old cigar factory so if you appreciate repurposed buildings and love food, this is your kind of place.

Service folks totally forgot about us - took over a 1/2 hour to place an order and then another 20-30 minutes for some of it to show up. Some never showed. Food was fine but overall, not a very good experience.

If you love oysters this is definitely the place to be! We sat at the bar on a very busy Saturday night where a half dozen bartenders & the manager were in “all hands on deck” mode. The restaurant was packed, as was the bar, but even with all the small plates, entrees, large trays of oysters, etc being served the staff was very attentive and welcoming. Industrial chic & comfortable decor in an old cigar factory too. All in all, very good food with excellent ambiance.

Mussels and grilled oysters were excellent. Fish and chips, Wagyu steak and curried shrimp were also excellent. Red fish that was the day's special was disappointing and expensive, and we worried we'd have to take my son through a drive-through after dinner for something to eat!! . Service was horrible; it appeared that there were only two servers to cover the entire restaurant and patio as well (maybe a few wait staff called in sick?), and our waiter tried his best, but was just stretched too thin! Loved the atmosphere and building!

This was our first night in Charleston. The oysters were bland. They didn’t have any flavor. We tried all the different types even the “guests”. One of us got the shrimp and grits which were good and another had the fish Milanese which was WONDERFUL.

I appreciate that everyone is understaffed and trying to do their best but this place is completely disorganized and seemingly indifferent to their customers. Also extremely disappointed that the staff is not wearing masks. A huge management failure in my opinion.

To start, I will say the one positive was that it’s super cute and has a great energetic atmosphere. However, the service and food was horrible. It took forever to get our drinks and our food order was messed up. The grilled oysters seemed like they sat under a heat lamp until they pretty much dried up. The server forgot to bring us plates and took close to 10 minutes to get his attention. Even the bread (how can you go wrong with bread?!) was blah. The mussels tasted like horse manure. It was the worst dining experience ever. We will never go back.

Nikki, our server, was delightful and efficient. The food was delicious. Our only issue was with the hostess. We were seated at a table closest to the kitchen. One of our party is hearing impaired so we asked to be moved to a booth for that reason. The hostess told us the booth was reserved for a party of 5, which we accepted. However, shortly thereafter, she seated a party of 3 at that booth.

Food was good but service was horrible. Waiter first approached the table after 10 minutes of waiting. Took 20 minutes for initial draft beer to reach the table. Waiter didn’t take food order until about 45 minutes after sitting down and then served food without cutlery/silverware. Manager feigned interest. We don’t ask for much but really!?!

Food was outstanding, from the oysters to daily fish special to shrimp and grits to the burger. Acoustics are challenging for conversation. Happy to tip the shuckers but maybe there’s a better way than another tip line on the check?
