We weren’t crazy impressed with the food, but Ezra was an amazing waiter and the waitress who brought out our food (whose name we did not get) was also terrific. She was very short in stature and that was her description.
Nice place. However, overpriced. First time there and when booking reservation, menu showed charred octopus for $18 under there large plates. When we arrived at restaurant it was priced $23. I order it, and it was good, nothing special, but at least it was not chewing. However, the supposedly, large plate had a very small portion, barely enough to be fit in the appetizer menu. At end of night I was satisfied but only because my wife and I went to Jestine's Kitchen for a basket of fried oyster for only $14. They were amazing. Conclusion, food is good, but overpriced specially since portions are to laugh about. Good luck.
Great variety of offerings, something for every palette, beef seafood vegan salads etc. wide variety of oysters from up and down the east coast. Servers pleasant friendly and knowledgeable, with a thorough understanding of the composition of the offerings. Manager engaged us as we were leaving and explained chefs background and philosophy. This was our 4th visit; they have been consistent on each visit. Love this place!
Great service! And good food.
We had the beer mussels to start with a bottle of Chardonnay. The mussels were meaty and flavorful. The shallots at the bottom of the bowl of mussels were like a secret treat. We used the charred bread to sop up the remaining sauce. Best decision of our day. Next, our entrees arrived. Scallops and local grilled fish. The local fish was a snowy grouper 20 miles off the coast. It’s a huge fish, google it. The scallops were served with large green peas and tiny ham chunks. Beside the scallops was also a mysterious creamy green sauce...also known as aioli. It was mind blowing. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We are locals and this was our first time. We were a little bit leery going to a franchise. However this place rocks. Great seafood great service nice ambience.
Rappahannock is truly wonderful. They handled our large party with ease. The food, timing, and service was impeccable. We liked every single item that was ordered at the table and would return in a heartbeat. The seafood tower was SO GOOD!
great experience, good food, nice server, noisey but to be expected.
This place is excellent. It's in an old cigar factory that is beautifully redone. There's a seafood market in it as well. Very fresh fish and oysters. Our server Louisa was fantastic. She was very friendly and took excellent care of us. We had the grilled daily catch, which was grouper over sprouted peas in a broth. WOW!!!! Everything that went by looked great!!!
Snapper was undercooked. Food was overpriced
Being from Virginia my favorite place to go for oysters. Went to noisy oyster they said they had va golf oysters sorry no golf on va. This place is the real deal love love love it
I don’t want this rating on the service to reflect on our waiter Preston, who was lovely, this is meant to show my experience with the hosts. I called ahead to pay for a bottle of wine for the table, this is my in-laws visiting us for the first time in Charleston. My husband and I wanted to treat them and apart from this incident, the evening was lovely.
When I called before our reservation to ask to purchase the wine I was first met with confusion, then passed off to another host. She was able describe a list of bubbles and we selected our wine. She quoted us $48.00 and I gave her my card information.
Fast-forward to the restaurant, we arrive and they are still setting up our table. No big deal, both I and my husband have worked in food and beverage for many years, we’re a bigger party, it’s understandable. I notice a wall of wines and recognize the bottle we ordered, the price: $18.00. I ask a hostess about what the number was, she is standoffish and says they are part of the market. I ask why I was told $48.00. She tells me that, that is the dine-in price and I cannot purchase the same bottle from the market. I inquire further if I can buy it and pay an uncorking fee, she tells me the fee is $25.00 and that with tax they equate to the same. Not wanting to do mental math, I regress and am content to wait for our table.
Our table is soon ready and we are asked to follow, though when a second hostess brings us to our table, no wine. After she has seated us and we have settled in, I get up to ask that same hostess about it. When I tell her that there was supposed to be a bottle she exclaims “oh!” and goes to her handheld POS. She turns to the hostess I spoke to earlier and that one tells me it has just been handed off to our server and will be on the table soon. I return to our table, it’s not the end of the world the wine will still be a nice before dinner treat we can surprise them with.
After 20 minutes still no wine. I will say this, I do not put that on o
So, four of us reserved at the bar for 6pm Sunday evening. I thought that meant We could be seated at one of the tables in the bar room, but apparently not.
I have eaten here numerous times, but still, I was surprised how limited the bar menu is. (Not sure if the main room has a different menu). And the best things at the bar, the fish bites and the potato snacks, are only on the happy hour menu.
It was not that easy to find things that everyone wanted to eat as one of us does not do raw shellfish. We ended up eating well with raw oysters, clams, a crab cake, great peel & eat shrimp and a couple of fried oyster sandwiches.
I will definitely return, but would like to see the menu changed up a bit and some more variety added.
The food was very enjoyable, but they seemed pretty understaffed for a Saturday night. Everything took about twice as long as it should have. Very nice crab cake.
Food was superb! And our waiter was personable, fun, helpful. Awesome night.
We had a great time!
Excellent service. We always sit at the oyster bar - Steve is a master at shucking oysters!
The grilled oysters and ceviche was excellent as was the overall seafood selections. Waiter was very patient with many ingredient questions. Rustic atmosphere in the old mill building was very chic.
Excellent food and our server John was the best! He provided great recommendations for food and paired drinks. Will definitely be back!!
It wasn't busy but our server became distracted with a big party and forgot to deliver a glass of wine. I thought it should have been comped. I also don't like paying for bread. They call it a flight which is a misnomer since it was all the same flavor. The charge was $6.00 for 3 slices. I have been there for lunch and dinner and much prefer the lunch menu.
Amazing and uniquely different food. Delicious, fresh oysters
Blackened Shrimp and Grits and the Fresh caught grouper were extraordinary.
Truly with the visit.
So good. We had such a great time overall and the oysters were amazing!! Our waitress was great too. She was friendly and suggested great things. I want to eat here every night.
Great outdoor seating
Family and friends dinner while on vacation. Party of 13. Place was not crowded which worked for our party. Food was awesome and service outstanding. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate.
Mothers Day Lunch. This was our third visit. It was a great lunch with lots of oysters(grilled, steamed, on the half shell) along with the mussels and a crab cake special. All items and our waiter were great. We will be back.
We had a wonderful brunch! We sat outside in the shade and it was wonderful. Our server was very nice and knowledgable of the menu. The mussels were delicious and my sister's Shrimp and Grits were different but VERY good! Definitely recommend to others!
Oysters were delicious! Service was outstanding (thank you Preston!) It is quite loud when the bar area is full but was very pleasant after the happy hour crowd moved on. Their Richmond restaurant is outstanding also!
Was taken out to lunch for my birthday by my beautiful wife. It was a memorable experience.
Delicious! We started with an oyster sampling, all excellent but salty were best. Baked clams were very flavorful, a must, we would order them again. Ceviche could have been cut slightly smaller but still quite good. Curried fish was sooo good! Server was quite knowledgeable and very efficient. We will be back.
We liked our experience but the overall loudness of the restaurant detracted from the dinner. The dining room would benefit from some acoustic revisions such as fabric panels on the ceiling to reduce noise. Small plates were pricey for the portions. We had smoked fish dip to share and were only given 5 crackers for the plate. Come on, saltine crackers are inexpensive so at least include enough of them on the plate to serve the dip portion. Entrees were inventive and the portions were appropriate. While I did not have an entrée, everyone at the table reported that they enjoyed their dinner. The air ducts were dripping condensation onto the floors and my date. The server attempted to wipe the ducts but the condensation returned. Overall the food was good but for the price point I would choose somewhere with a more tolerable noise level in the future.
DELICIOUS!!! Service was great. Will definitely return
We sat at the bar. Charles was our server and offered up great advice about the menu and food. We were there for happy hour. Amazing prices on oysters and drinks. We tried all 3 of their oysters and all were fresh and delicious. Also highly recommend their shrimp and grits. Unique preparation, great dish!
We had a dozen oysters each. The waiter selected samples of three different oysters and explained the difference when serving the dish. They included proper extras to add to the oysters such as pepper sauce and horseradish, all made fresh. We followed the oysters with their “Lamb and Clams” stew. It was fantastic. The service was great and the restaurant ambiance was a nice balance of upscale casual.
We were very disappointed in Rappahannock in Charleston, SC. We’ve been to other locations in Virginia and liked the food, however this location was a disappointment. The oysters did not taste fresh and we only got 11 instead of 12! The service was slow and not dependable!
Delighted to find this spot “off the beaten” track from more touristy areas. Delicious meal & great service. We will return!
Oysters were so delicious. Best hot sauce I have ever had.
There was no recognition of our 47th anniversary even though I noted it on the reservation. The oysters were the best part of the meal. My shrimp & grits were very bland and warm. I think I may go back for happy hour oysters.
Great place. Good food and most of all free parking.
Great place for delicious seafood. Oysters are always a good choice to start. Scallops just melt in your mouth. Shrimp & grits were amazing.
Absolutely Fabulous. Freshest Seafood in Charleston. We love it.
