Rangoon Ruby Burmese Cuisine - Palo Alto Ratings and Reviews
The food is always delicious - especially the coconut noodle soup and the mango salad. Yum! Other favorites are the coconut sticky rice, pumpkin and salmon stew, and green beans. Their bar drinks are also really good. A great place for a delicious meal and a fun night out.
Very tasty and interesting! We come to this restaurant and their sister restaurant on University Ave (Palo Alto) somewhat frequently. In the past we felt very rushed here, but the service this time was MUCH better. Attentive, prompt, but not at all rushed.
Everything was good! The salads, appetizers, entrees. All sharable and interesting.
Extensive wine list and cocktail list, and they also made several other cocktails not on the cocktail menu.
I loved all of their non-meat options, including many tasty tofu dishes.
We were greeted and seated right away. Our table was off of the main entrance and there was a cold draft but upon mention, the host closed the door. Server was quick, very attentive and the food came in no time. My friends who have never been to this restaurant were very impressed. Food was delish as always. We had the green tea salad, chicken crisp, beef basil, shrimp walnut and shrimp curry. Tons of food for the four of us. Can't wait to go back!
Was eager to check this restaurant out based on reviews. My greatest complaint is that the entries were lukewarm at best and one had cold chicken mixed in with warm - unpleasant. The noodles were over cooked, as well. Though table side presentation was very nice. Just ok for two @ $100, could have done better elsewhere
It was a little weird that the wine selection was on an iPad. This was a cool gimmick but didn't really help us decide what to drink and cluttered the table. The staff was very attentive, but this could have been because they could clearly tell we were on a date. We both ordered the pad thai, which was very good if somewhat simple. Wasn't expecting much more from that dish. The prices are a little steep, but I moved to the Bay recently so it could be that I am just experiencing sticker shock. Great ambience. Cool decorations. A little noisy for a date.
What a find!!!!
We were visiting family, and they suggested we try Rangoon Ruby's out. What a delightful experience, the food was memorable! We ordered the shrimp with walnuts, crispy chicken, and several other dishes, and all were delicious! We can hardly wait to go back!!!
I strongly recommend you try it out!!!
2 things happened
A) Server walked by table and serving spoon fell of and server was not even aware it happened. Serving spoon was on floor and we ended up using existing silverware to serve ourselves
B) I had mentioned in open table it was someone'e birthday and I thought there might be some dessert or something but none of it happened
Unfortunately, our experience was NOT a delightful one. It started off okay, but went down hill. My friends took me to Rangoon for my birthday. I had heard about it and was excited to try it. When the food arrived.....I did not get anything. The guy said, "Is there anything else I can help you with?" when he dropped off my friends' dishes. I said, "Uhm, maybe you can bring me some food." The FIRST WAIT -- We had already waited for their dishes and then THE SECOND WAIT --we waited another 10 minutes while we watched other tables receiving food and the guy noticed us still sitting there and says, "Your food should be coming shortly". My friends would not start without me since they thought the food was almost there. THE THIRD WAIT -- Another 15 - 18 minutes and the Walnut Shrimp meal arrives. It didn't look appealing and it did not taste good (in all honesty). I had my friend try it and she wouldn't even eat it after tasting one.
I really don't know what was really happening, but I wish we could have just been told the truth about the situation and I could have ordered something else. My friends were annoyed and their food was cold. Anyway, it really put a damper on my birthday celebration ---- a long wait for a NOT tasty meal! Sorry Rangoon Ruby, I can't give you a high rating. I really wish I could.....
Also, we felt a little unable to relax because they seem to want you to get out of there so that it can be closed down before dinner service. We literally left and went to a coffee shop. I got home and needed something to eat -- I was totally hungry!
This is our go-to place when we want a meal before a film that starts at 6-7pm, because of its service, quality and location. The tea salad is known widely and very popular, and my spouse had that, but this time I tried the Burmese Pad Thai (Pad Burmese?), which was very good and something I will get again. Those who like tropical drinks have a nice selection from which to choose, but they are pricey. Stay with tea and one entree and a couple gets out for about $30.
Very busy on a Tuesday evening. Good service. We were seated quickly with our reservation. The host and waitress were friendly and helpful. Tables are a bit close together so you're eating very close to your neighbors. The food is ok. We tried the popular dishes recommended by the waitress and they were a bit underwhelming. I found many of them to be a bit too salty for me. Ambiance is nice and energetic.
You get your order in a heartbeat. Servers give you full attention and respond to your needs with out most cooperation. The family is a fan of the tea leaf salad. First time to order a lamb dish from this place and it was amazing!!!
We were happy with everything altogether.
Had dinner with 2 of my friends at the restaurant on a Friday night. The waiter was okay, not very personable. The restaurant needs better ventilation/ air circulation.
Our eyes were burning, probably due to the fumes from the spices. The food was okay. What bothered me was that the waiter just brought out our check without asking if we wanted dessert. They also added a 20% gratuity to our bill, which didn't make sense to me since there were only three of us.
