Very long wait to be served the table-side Caesar salad we ordered only to be told that the waiter was making it for 2 other tables also and so not actually doing it table-side. All other diners had finished their meals by the time a very bland salad arrived.
Decor not great. Whole experience a bit...meh
Steak was done correctly, but chewy. Wife's quail was over cooked, but had good taste. Service was polite, but had to ask for steak knife, spoon and bread (was never offered). Better places to spend your money.....
Excellent meal before hitting the Majestic.
Great bartenders and waitstaff! Provided amazing recommendations! Tomahawk Steak brought my boyfriend to near tears because it was so delicious!
Great place to stop for a nice dinner before any performance at the Majestic, or for any reason you may be in the downtown area. Great service, terrific food and an awesome waiter!!!
This is a tough one. Our first server was excellent; personable, knowledgeable, and attentive, and he mixed two fantastic Manhattans at our table. But then two other servers tag teamed in, and I felt it compromised the repore we had established with him. The steak was good, but not terrific. We also ordered a caesar salad, which had not a hint of garlic or cheese in it--the predominant flavor was mustard (?).
What really bothered us about Range was the layout of the seating. Simple, round tables were scrunched so close together that it allowed for no sense of privacy between parties. One couple was seated so close to us we could have jabbed the woman with our elbows. I don't mind that family, farmhouse style of communal dining, but this didn't feel like that, either. It just felt like tables were tossed against each other with no thought for layout. I can't imagine what it must be like for the wait staff to have to wheel the food carts through that maze of tables on a busy night.
It was my first time to dine at Range and will mos def be back again!
Overall, our experience was very good. Ignacio, our waiter, was very knowledgeable and engaging, and he was sensitive to the fact that we had a show to get to at the theater. When my entrée arrived, it did not have the vegetable that was to accompany it on the plate. Since our server did not deliver the food, he definitely was not responsible--this was a kitchen error which was quickly remedied. The prix fare menu was a good value.
I would go back.
tableside caesar salad is a definite must, as are the deviled eggs and jalapeño cheddar grits. steaks take a while to come out, so don't plan on making this a rushed experience.
The food was great. Nice location, good view & great desserts.
I was in town for a meeting and dining alone. The hostess tried to sit me in a nook around a corner which I rejected in favor of a better table. Ordered a Bloody Mary mild with no salt. Came out with salt. Oysters were excellent but waitstaff just set down the plate of oysters without cocktail fork or crackers. After that the experience improved with an excellent steak and creamed spinach. They just need to up their game as far as service.
We had an early Mother’s Day celebration and it was a wonderful experience. Mike was our server and he was so attentive and helpful.
We did not have an experienced waitress which for the price range I would have expected. Why they wear grill aprons was kinda drab, and she was so slow, slow to get our drinks and anything else so we asked for another. Food was something I could have grilled myself
Food was good but pretty pricey. Can be expected since the restaurant is right in the hotel. I had lunch there first day I arrived and it was excellent. We had dinner there our last night and we felt it was okay but not worth the money paid.
The food is delicious. We had oysters, the Beef Tenderloin Bolognese and the most amazing wild Mushroom bisque. The cocktails were delicious. Our primary complaint was that the dining chairs were very uncomfortable. We came back after the theater for a nightcap and discovered that the barstools were also uncomfortable. Please consider some more comfortable seating.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Our server was fantastic and the food was great as usual. We were there on a Sunday, so things were quieter than usual, but I kinda dig that.
This was an amazing restaurant. I would highly recommend. Our server, Cruz, was perfect very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, drinks. The food was the best we have had. Delicious!
Wonderful evening. Raquel is a customer service expert. We had a group of 6 and it was perfect, from the drinks to the chef specials and the sides.
Both of our pasta dishes as well as the mushroom bisque were excellent. The server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We enjoyed our experience at Range.
I would ABSOLUTELY recommend to everyone I know traveling to the San Antonio area. The TableSide Ceasar Salad was the best salad I have ever had and our waiter Chris was the best.
I chose this restaurant because it was advertised that there was a brunch buffet for Easter. However, it was a price fixed menu with very little variety. My salad and steak were fine but the food service was very slow especially since there were only a few tables seated. The price was way over the value of what we got. I won’t return. Our waiter was excellent so not his fault but I expect better from a river walk restaurant.
Everything was excellent!!
Especially the bacon encrusted pork chop and ribeye!
The blue cotton candy the chef sent out at the end was an interesting touch..very good. First time we ever ate cotton candy!
Limited lunch menu, 1 server for 10+ tables, took 45min for salads, $11 iceberg salad. Cool place but over priced and no prepared.
Excellent food and service.
In the past, we’ve gotten blueberry muffins as a starter. Not this time. Service was just ok. Husband never got a refill on his drink, and I would have ordered another glass of wine if our server had been more attentive. When our meal was served, the host dropped it on our table. Left finished salad plates without clearing them. Food was tasty, which saved Range from getting a lower score. Otherwise, disappointed. Service was an afterthought.
Everything was good except for the ribeye. The meat was a poor quality cut. It had connective tissue. They may want to find another source for their meat of fire their butcher. Everything else was great though. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly.
Server was fantastic, made our dining experience an evening to remember!
The food was delicious, however everything took way too long to come out. We had dinner reservations for 8pm, we were seated promptly but waited awhile for our waiter to come and take our drink order. He was very nice and friendly but we still waited more than 10 mins for our two drinks...the waiter eventually came out and said the bar was “slammed” so he made our drinks himself (luckily he was a bartender too). We had the deviled eggs as appetizer and they were delcious! We scarfed them down and waited pateienly for our dinner....until 9:20! We were starving by the time the food came out. No one mentioned the kitchen being behind and the restaurant wasn’t terribly busy but it did seem like a lot of people who were seated well before us, were just getting their food after 9pm too. So we’d try it again but definitely NOT if we’re in a hurry.
We started with the Cream of Mushroom Soup. It was delicious. Very creamy and the mushroom flavor noticeable. Then we had the hush puppies and they were wonderful. Very crisp on the outside with soft butter to put on them. We were surprised to receive two complimentary blueberry muffins and a special butter for them (I can't remember what it was). They muffins were great - the blueberry flavor was just enough, but not so strong as to feel as if you were having a breakfast muffin. I had the Lobster Thermador. I'm sure it was fine, but I was mixed up and thinking of Lobster Newburg, which would be served in a cassoulet. My husband's Bolognese was fabulous. It did not have a red sauce and was devine. He thought it was a little salty and he is a salt guy. Then they bring you a huge blue cotton candy, which I thought was fine for table with children, but not for adults. We will go back.
The food was absolutely amazing! Cant wait to come back again.
Our waiter could not be more attentive. Great service! The steak tartare was very good and presented nicely but the saltine crackers could be replaced with bread. The ragu was flavorful but way too salty and the presentation could be better. The lobster was over cooked just a touch. Dessert was fabulous- creme brulee!
The service was slow and there weren’t that many there! We had to request items twice, they were out of some appetizers on the menu. Our table seemed to be ignored? The pasta was cold! All in all a disappointment.
Got seated on a dirty table that was wobbly. Ordered ribeye for $50 that came out well down in burnt charred. asked for a medium. At the center return the rest no apologies no refunds. For $50, I hate returning steak. They should know how to cook a $50 steak. What a waste of meat. Service was overbearing.
My wife suggested dinning at Range because she loves foie gras, and they have it on the menu. She ordered the Italian buffalo milk burrata (cheese), table side caesar salad, rib eye steak with foie gras and blueberry sauce, beef tenderloin bolognese and chocolate ganache and peanut butter desert. The buffalo cheese is served with a delicious seasonal mostarda—a sweet pear preserves jelly sauce that was delicious. The salad is a special treat too. The staff made the dressing and prepared the salad at the table side. My wife really liked the foie gras. Excellent meal. The staff was friendly and punctual. I recommend checking the menu before you make a reservation because the menu is limited and dinner for two can be expensive. We had a great dinning experience overall.
The food was good as I would expect for a Jason Dady place but it was very expensive and the portions were HUGE. I ordered the quail and it came with 3 quails! There was not a chance I could finish it and it felt so wasteful to have to throw it out. We were went as a pre-show meal and we weren't able to take a go bag. I felt like 1/3 of the money we spent went into the garbage. I would have preferred a more reasonable portion size and lower price. We ordered dessert and that was the only thing that was lack luster. It came with what tasted like 2 scoops of peanut butter out of a Jif jar on top of chocolate with some pretzel sticks in it. I regretted the order as the rest of the meal tasted pretty good. My husband ordered the pork and it had a mountain of bacon piled on top. Though he thought it tasted ok it was too much of everything. The pork was the size of my shoe and the bacon was 2" thick.
All around Excellent! Not our first time, and won’t be our last!
This place is amazing! The atmosphere is perfect and the food is delicious! They give complimentary muffins before your meal and cotton candy at the end. I will definitely be back!
We had a party of 4. 2 complete meals were brought to the table and 1 entree was delivered. However, after waiting for over 5 minutes we had to flag someone who was not waiting our table and ask about our 4th member's meal and the side that was ordered with the 3rd entree that was not delivered (our waitress was busy making table side salads and cocktails and seemed to have not noticed thst our entiree table hadn't been served). Although the food was good when we got it, the truffle butter (which was an extra charge) on the steak was still frozen on top of the hot steak and failed to melt after 10 minutes. For the cost of the food I would expect more coordinated service.
Nice restaurant for hotel lobby.
Great atmosphere and service. The Brussels sprouts were delicious!
