I have been to Rambler twice this week, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times food was great. Had same server both times and each time she presented the check before asking if we wanted anything else. Really annoying.
Loved the food and waiter. We were there for a business dinner though and didn’t appreciate that the host let the group ahead of us stay at the table for 30min over. It was very late for all of us coming from east coast. I’m future, They had already paid so the manager should have comped them a round of beers at the bar so that we could sit.
Waiter and food were AMAZING
I was delighted by the service, ambiance, and, of course, my delicious meal!
Great food, very nice staff and it's close to ACT! I'd go here again!
Really great place, good food, good service, lively happy hour
It was great!!
Rambler was a great place to stop for a quick pre-theater dinner in San Francisco. Great service and delicious food. I noticed other patrons were eating arugula topped pizza, but we were hungry for the seafood risotto -- rich and creamy. My husband also had the tomato soup with grilled cheese strips, which was great comfort food. With its food American-style, Rambler is a nice addition to the Union Square neighborhood.
Great meal and excellent service for dinner before a show. Downstairs dining room cozy and intimate but without sound barrier to night club nextdoor which this night was very loud.
Fantastic value, incredible flavors. I’ll be back
Last night in San Francisco. Nice way to end a great holiday. Food was great and the ambience in a very eclectic hotel was great. Service was outstanding. Will definitely return
Service slow to start but it was great. Risotto was so so but everything else was deeelish
Mmph on the wine list. Considering the proximity to Napa/Sonoma, you'd expect a wider selection and more affordable selection of wine
The website advertised happy hour from 4-6 pm, but when we arrived at 5:35, they told us it had already ended and would not honor the pricing. Following that, it took over twenty minutes for the waitress to return to us to get our drink order.
Unfortunately we were not able to try this restaurant. We were told upon sitting down for our reservation that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes.
The food was delicious. It was an intimate space but didn't feel too cramped. Great for an unrushed, casual meal.
According the website, there was suppose to have been live music. There was no such thing.
Cibo normale. , niente di che
New Year’s Eve Dinner
Enjoyed our NYE meal here before our function. Food was great! Drinks were lovely! Recommended stop at Rambler!
The food was just okay. They didn't have everything we wanted because we came at a certain time. Service was so so, sometimes slow. The atmosphere was okay, but a bit noisy.
Great place for any occasion.
What a delightful place. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, the staff made excellent suggestions and the food was wonderful. We used OT to find that unique experience and it was spot on. We ended up getting several dishes for the table and shared. (Highly recommend). One of our new favorite places in the city!
Amazing dinner and experience— highly recommend
We stopped in prior to seeing a play at the Curran. We started with Happy Hour. The Happy Hour cocktails were unique and good value for the price. We tried the shrimp and pickled vegetables, both were great.
The dinner menu had a nice variety of items. The squash soup was great for a cold evening. I additionally ordered the mussels which were enough for a meal. My partner has the braised short rib which easily fell away from the bone, served with an abundance of vegetables. Prices are comparable to similar restaurants around Union Square.
Will definitely return for future visits to the City.
Loved the food... loved the space.
A lot of veggies made me happy. Nothing more to say. The service was too nice.
We dined at Rambler on Christmas Eve and overall the experience was good, except for my cocktail, which was a watered down martini, pretty tiny for $15 plus they charged me an extra $3 for some reason as a "straight-up fee". But the service and at least the food that I ordered made up for that disappointment. We had pumpkin soup, which was very delicious, but the mussels appetizer was truly outstanding. The entrées of beef short ribs and fish were solid as well, but my husband's ribeye arrived almost cold and he barely ate half of it. The desserts were flavorful and not too sweet, which I appreciated. Overall, we enjoyed the evening and look forward to dining at Rambler again.
Pretty much a no frills diner type meal but w fancy hotel prices. And the food arrived cold :(
Out for an evening to soak in the hustle and energy of Christmas in The City which was topped off with a meal at Ramblers. Ambiance and serve was just what we were looking for; quickly seated; wait staff that was attentive, friendly and on point with their suggestions. Our group had sea bass, Cavatelli Pasta, seafood risotto and we each smiled with joy and traded bites of food. No doubt, I recommend Rambler for satisfaction.
I don’t believe small children should be allowed to run around a restaurant disturbing guests but hey that’s just me 🤷🏾♂️
Amazing food and the service was great! Such a fun spot and perfect for our small group of 6. Very pleased and would go back again! Cocktails were very on point also!
We came for our annual family outing to the city for the holidays. The bar was great and the girl bartender. We sat at a great table and the food and service was awesome. Definitely we would come back!! I would also like to stay at the Zeplin hotel.
Place has great ambiance & perfect location close to Union Square & Curran Theatre. The service was incredibly slow even though our reservation was at 5:30 so the place was not even half full. Our margherita pizza app was good, not great. Our entrees were all a huge disappointment. 2 of us ordered the Sea Bass which is a special treat order for us. It bore no resemblance to any sea bass I’ve ever had. Dry, no flavor at all. The butternut gnocchi was gummy. The filet was ok, but cold. Overall a horrible meal we would like to have sent back but how do you send back 6 meals. Don’t waste your money. The bar looked cool though so that might be ok
Everything we had was DELICIOUS - the ahi tartare was exceptional the pizzas were fabulous!!
Nice meal...conveniently located around the corner from the Geary and Curran theaters.
It was a great spot
My friend and I were seated on time for our reservation. Waitstaff was very friendly.
I had the heuvos rancheros with eggs over easy. Nice presentation and great flavor. My friend had the all American breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, pancakes and bacon with small potatoes.
For beverages, my friend had the hot chocolate- which she said was good. I had a latte - which was a little strong.
I would definitely recommend this place and would come here again.
If you are driving and need to park, the garage at 433 Mason Street is really close the the restaurant and is reasonably priced for San Francisco.
A reliable spot in the Union Square area where there are precious few options. The only issue on this visit was that the stoves (?) were out, limiting us to salads and pizza. Fortunately that wasn't a hard choice.
Great choice for dinner before the theatre
Inexperienced and harried service is the reason I would not recommend Rambler - there are too many other good options in the area. Hubby and I were in San Francisco for his birthday weekend - we were staying in a boutique hotel on Union Square, had tickets to see the Nutcracker later that night, the whole nine yards. We were in the mood to celebrate all weekend, and lunch at Rambler was going to kick off our party. We had read positive reviews, and our first impression was good. We had a reservation, didn't have to wait, got a nice table. And then we waited, and waited, and waited for our server to acknowledge us. We got a menu, ordered fancy cocktails, and then waited. Server came back to take our lunch order. We got our water, got our lunch, and then we waited, and waited, and waited for our cocktails. We both had the turkey club sandwich, which was very delicious. Still no cocktails. Server came by once, very harried and somewhat defensive, to quickly apologize about the cocktails. We were halfway through our sandwiches, and still no cocktails. Hubby went up to the bar to check on the cocktails, which was slammed with orders, but was not acknowledged by bartender or any other server. Finally, we were able to get the server to come back to the table, and she explained that the bartender was the only person in the entire restaurant who could make the cocktails, and that the bartender was still too busy to make our drinks. We had waited 25 minutes for the cocktails by that point. We ended up canceling the cocktails and getting drinks at the St. Francis afterwards. The food and atmosphere are very nice, but there needed to be more than one person tending bar during lunch rush a week before Christmas.
