Many better places in sf for dinner at the price
An enjoyable, mid-level restaurant with well priced food and wine with adequate service. We’ll be back.
Amazing service, delicious food, on point cocktails. Everything was wonderful. We had a few apps, a few drinks per person, and one entre per person. It easily came out to >$100 per person. No regrets, but definitely not the 2 dollar signs a anticipated.
Interesting but limited menu and no wine list (only by the glass). Nice atmosphere and conversation possible when not overly crowded. Service was not prompt and servers were not well informed about food or wines. We ate in bar; dining room looks inviting.
There are a handful of reasons why I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. 1. Date Night and they sat us at a tiny table right next to the ramp where everyone enters the lower dining room. 2. The bathrooms were either up the stairs and down a long hall or downstairs around a corner and down a long hall. Not ideal for women in heels. 3. We ordered the Prince Edward Island Muscles which is served with chorizo for an appetizer. The muscles themselves were delicious, however, they're served in a broth that has a thick layer of chorizo fat floating on the top. Not only does that look unappetizing but that fat has zero flavor. 4. For the main entrees, my man ordered the NY Steak and I had the Shrimp Bouillabaisse Risotto. He got PART of a NY Steak, like 5 slices of one. For $36 I want to see that whole steak on the plate! My risotto tasted like someone in the kitchen didn't know how to properly season the food. It was extremely bland. They should mix the aioli through the entire dish rather than just a drizzle around the edges. So for $36, I expect to want to eat my meal rather than leave it on the dish. 5. The desserts, well they were better, but... nothing to write home about. The Stick Toffee Cake was more of a ginger cake and without the added scoop of ice cream would have been too dry to eat. The Butterscotch Pot de Creme, while it tasted good the texture was off. The pastry chef nearly curdled the cream in the process of making the dish.
The Rambler holds a unique, industrial-modern, chic vibe. Love the ambiance. We tried two different dishes and absolutely loved both. I highly recommend The Rambler!
Nice atmosphere. Good, innovative cocktail menu. One entree was not hot when served. They prepared a new dish and it was both hot and delicious.
Wonderful meal, great service, waffle chicken and shrimp grits we're outstanding!
Cool vibe! Great food! Great Bloody Mary’s!
Very cozy hip small place with high quality food at an affordable price for location.
Our first visit and we were impressed with the attentive service. Our waiter made recommendations and they were delicious. The food was fresh and ample portions. Recommend the mussels to share - there are plenty for two. We will be back.
We made a last-minute reservation and it was a great choice! Really liked the decor -- we got to sit at a cute table in the front corner. We shared the roasted beet salad and the swordfish and both were excellent -- presented beautifully and delicious to dig into. Definitely recommend checking it out.
Food was so,so....nothing special. Service was very slow and the whole experience was less than satisfactory. Ordered the smoked salmon that was supposed to come with capers, but did not. When questioned the waitress didn't know that they were supposed to be on there and when she asked the kitchen they replied that they had JUST run out. hmmmmm.....Not a place will will be returning to
Didn’t blow my mind for the price. Awesome ambiance
Overall good place, especially the food, marred by having to shout at my dinner companion due to the uncomfortably loud noise of several groups of people having after-work get togethers. Since it was a Tuesday, all I can recommend is go early.
business dinner for out of towners. excellent drink & food!! fun ambiance & great service. would def recommend and go back.
Enjoyed the menu, nice place for a breakfast meeting.
Good food, but there was a plastic wrapper floating in my soup. Would love to see nightly specials, but the menu is very good.
Great venue , food was exceptional service was very slow , not very attentive . Very nice server was clearly busy due lack of additional wait staff . I felt bad ... chalking it up to just a bad night and staff called out .
It was EXTREMELY loud and we were a young group getting together who doesn’t get bothered by this typically. We couldn’t hear each other. Dinner Service to lower level - especially drinks - was delayed at times and restaurant wasn’t very crowded. Gnocchi was good.
Great atmosphere and food. Service was a little slow. Downstairs room was quiet. We will definitely return.
Our group of six had reservations and were seated immediately in the downstairs section. Service and food were both good. All of us enjoyed our experience.
We really enjoyed our dinner here. The cocktails were AWESOME - my wife had a Four Roses Manhattan and I had the Rambler Sazerac, which was very tasty. We munched on a hummus and roasted cauliflower appetizer that suprisingly was cold. We expected something "roasted" to be warm at least. But, it was a great nibbler to go with the cocktails. I had the pasta with the veal, which was super rich but very tasty. My wife had the sweet potato gnocchi which was also very good. Good sized portions - we were quite full when we left. Our server was super friendly with just the right amount of attention. Would be five stars, but the place was very noisy and the tables so close it felt very claustrophobic. I would definitely recommend Rambler though - if you don't mind a little noise. The rest of the experience is top notch.
I have been to Rambler twice this week, once for breakfast and once for lunch. Both times food was great. Had same server both times and each time she presented the check before asking if we wanted anything else. Really annoying.
Loved the food and waiter. We were there for a business dinner though and didn’t appreciate that the host let the group ahead of us stay at the table for 30min over. It was very late for all of us coming from east coast. I’m future, They had already paid so the manager should have comped them a round of beers at the bar so that we could sit.
Waiter and food were AMAZING
I was delighted by the service, ambiance, and, of course, my delicious meal!
Great food, very nice staff and it's close to ACT! I'd go here again!
Really great place, good food, good service, lively happy hour
It was great!!
Rambler was a great place to stop for a quick pre-theater dinner in San Francisco. Great service and delicious food. I noticed other patrons were eating arugula topped pizza, but we were hungry for the seafood risotto -- rich and creamy. My husband also had the tomato soup with grilled cheese strips, which was great comfort food. With its food American-style, Rambler is a nice addition to the Union Square neighborhood.
Great meal and excellent service for dinner before a show. Downstairs dining room cozy and intimate but without sound barrier to night club nextdoor which this night was very loud.
Fantastic value, incredible flavors. I’ll be back
Last night in San Francisco. Nice way to end a great holiday. Food was great and the ambience in a very eclectic hotel was great. Service was outstanding. Will definitely return
Service slow to start but it was great. Risotto was so so but everything else was deeelish
Mmph on the wine list. Considering the proximity to Napa/Sonoma, you'd expect a wider selection and more affordable selection of wine
The website advertised happy hour from 4-6 pm, but when we arrived at 5:35, they told us it had already ended and would not honor the pricing. Following that, it took over twenty minutes for the waitress to return to us to get our drink order.
Unfortunately we were not able to try this restaurant. We were told upon sitting down for our reservation that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes.
The food was delicious. It was an intimate space but didn't feel too cramped. Great for an unrushed, casual meal.
According the website, there was suppose to have been live music. There was no such thing.
Cibo normale. , niente di che
