Ralph's of South Philly - King of Prussia Ratings and Reviews
Will never go again. We live Ralph's in South Philly. King of Prussia is atrocious. I ordered the Chicken Saltambucca (not sure of spelling). Anyway, it was supposed to have prosciutto. There were 1 small square of it for each chicken breast. The chicken itself tasted like it was cooked in the microwave. Rubbery. Finally the bread at Ralph's is supposed to be from Sarcones bakery. This clearly was not.
The waiter rushed our food. I had one sip of wine and my dinner was out. My husband's veal was tough and not cooked right, my Chicken Sorrento was fatty. We go to KofP because we don't want to deal with South Philly traffic. We have been here before and it was better. Never again. It's worth the trip to go to the Original.
Great Italian food! Service was fairly good- we had to ask for water a few times.
The decor is sleek and elegant- but don't get seated on the leather bench if your a party of two. The seat was so sunken down from use that I felt like I was in a bucket! Same for the woman next to us!
The pasta dish I ordered "Mafaldine" included crab meat, unfortunately, the kitchen did not have any crab meat available. Rather than informing me of the issue and providing an opportunity to make another selection, they simply delivered a different entrée to the table. I informed the server the dish was not what I ordered and he countered it was. When I questioned the waiter I got the story as listed above. Fortunately, I am not allergic to nuts as the Gnocchi dish with Pine Nuts was the substitution. While I enjoyed the pasta, I know I will not return or recommend this location.
If you are looking to wait a ridiculously long time for sub par food, this restaurant is for you! We had 7:30 reservations and were not seated until 8:10. During this time I spoke to the hostess and manager multiple times- neither of which offered us a drink let alone water to compensate for our wait. When we were finally seated, the waitress was discombobulated and also took forever to take our order. Then, we waited even longer for the kitchen. When our entrees finally came, nothing was "great". When we asked for the bill the manager offered free desserts for how long it took for us to get food, but by then it was nearly 10:00 and we just wanted to get out of there. Don't waste your time or your money visiting this restaurant. It was a disaster for bad food.
The first thing that was a turnoff was the location - drove around for an extra 1/2 hour looking for it and finally called and they told me that it was in the lobby of the Sheradon hotel -- no signs if I had not called I would never have found it. A bit pricey and nothing as good as the South Philly spot.. even the bread sucked -- as far as I am concerned they are using a name without the value..our waitress was great and understanding and was almost in agreement to our feelings. I never plan to return. I will go to the South Philly location.
I went to Ralph's with my husband. We started with an order of mussels in the red sauce for an appetizer. We both enjoyed it. The sauce was very tasty. I ordered Veal Saltimbocca which was delicious! Very tender. My husband ordered the Veal Napalatono which was very disappointing. It was fried Veal and it was like a brick. He sent it back and ordered pasta with seafood and was very pleased with that dish. All in all I would go back because the waiter was very gracious about giving my husband something else and kept apologizing. If looking for a romantic evening you might want to go somewhere else because it was very loud in there.
We had a coupon, so we figured we'd give Ralph's a try. The food was excellent and substantial. I had the veal parm and my wife had the chicken parm. We each brought home half the meal. I also had the arugula salad which was very tasty. On the downside, and possibly due to being short-handed, the service was very slow. After being seated, we had a long wait for bread to enjoy with the dipping oil, but then we had to wait about 10 minutes until we could get someone to bring us plates to pour the oil on. We also had to wait a long time for our bill. We never were offered a refill on our drinks; one thing that always bugs me. So I would recommend the place for the food, but not the service.
Menu a bit smaller than what we are used to in south philly. Missed my favorite, lasagna, as well as everything salad. Also, while chicken parm was excellent, only 1 type of pasta available as a side. Also, no house wine. That being said, in addition to chicken parm, the penne a la vodka was very good. The mafaldine was thoroughly enjoyed. The chocolate martini was a knock out. Service was impeccable, but sterile atmosphere.
