Ralph's of South Philly - King of Prussia Ratings and Reviews
The pasta dish I ordered "Mafaldine" included crab meat, unfortunately, the kitchen did not have any crab meat available. Rather than informing me of the issue and providing an opportunity to make another selection, they simply delivered a different entrée to the table. I informed the server the dish was not what I ordered and he countered it was. When I questioned the waiter I got the story as listed above. Fortunately, I am not allergic to nuts as the Gnocchi dish with Pine Nuts was the substitution. While I enjoyed the pasta, I know I will not return or recommend this location.
If you are looking to wait a ridiculously long time for sub par food, this restaurant is for you! We had 7:30 reservations and were not seated until 8:10. During this time I spoke to the hostess and manager multiple times- neither of which offered us a drink let alone water to compensate for our wait. When we were finally seated, the waitress was discombobulated and also took forever to take our order. Then, we waited even longer for the kitchen. When our entrees finally came, nothing was "great". When we asked for the bill the manager offered free desserts for how long it took for us to get food, but by then it was nearly 10:00 and we just wanted to get out of there. Don't waste your time or your money visiting this restaurant. It was a disaster for bad food.
The first thing that was a turnoff was the location - drove around for an extra 1/2 hour looking for it and finally called and they told me that it was in the lobby of the Sheradon hotel -- no signs if I had not called I would never have found it. A bit pricey and nothing as good as the South Philly spot.. even the bread sucked -- as far as I am concerned they are using a name without the value..our waitress was great and understanding and was almost in agreement to our feelings. I never plan to return. I will go to the South Philly location.
I went to Ralph's with my husband. We started with an order of mussels in the red sauce for an appetizer. We both enjoyed it. The sauce was very tasty. I ordered Veal Saltimbocca which was delicious! Very tender. My husband ordered the Veal Napalatono which was very disappointing. It was fried Veal and it was like a brick. He sent it back and ordered pasta with seafood and was very pleased with that dish. All in all I would go back because the waiter was very gracious about giving my husband something else and kept apologizing. If looking for a romantic evening you might want to go somewhere else because it was very loud in there.
We had a coupon, so we figured we'd give Ralph's a try. The food was excellent and substantial. I had the veal parm and my wife had the chicken parm. We each brought home half the meal. I also had the arugula salad which was very tasty. On the downside, and possibly due to being short-handed, the service was very slow. After being seated, we had a long wait for bread to enjoy with the dipping oil, but then we had to wait about 10 minutes until we could get someone to bring us plates to pour the oil on. We also had to wait a long time for our bill. We never were offered a refill on our drinks; one thing that always bugs me. So I would recommend the place for the food, but not the service.
Menu a bit smaller than what we are used to in south philly. Missed my favorite, lasagna, as well as everything salad. Also, while chicken parm was excellent, only 1 type of pasta available as a side. Also, no house wine. That being said, in addition to chicken parm, the penne a la vodka was very good. The mafaldine was thoroughly enjoyed. The chocolate martini was a knock out. Service was impeccable, but sterile atmosphere.
The food left a lot to be desired. The Veal special was very tough and was nothing special. They basically over cooked the veal in a vodka sauce. Was definitely not worth the $30 they charged for it. The drinks were also overpriced. For a place that advertises that they come from South Philly they didn't even come close to delivering the quality of food that you can find in South Philly. They definitely get the atmosphere right and the service was very good. But when it came to the food I was very very disappointed.
When making the reservation I noted it was my wife’s birthday, hoping they would put a candle in our dessert cake. They did not.
When the check arrived our server was hovering around watching what tip I left which made us uncomfortable.
Aside from that the food and service was top notch, as always.
The food was awful. I have never been served an Italian entree' that was covered with
the most tasteless red sauce. My husband had veal (very tough) parmigiana and I had
seafood with red sauce. The server was not attentive and did not serve the beer my husband ordered.
This is not the Ralph's I remember from South Philly.
Do Not go to this restaurant.
I hate to have to write this but four out of six people ordered chicken and pasta and all four said how tough the chicken was. This was a birthday celebration and I noted that when I made the reservation. Last year the waiter brought a cannoli to the person and put a candle in it. Not this year! The restaurant was not busy, six in our party and two tables of two and one woman alone. So disappointed. The chicken saltimbocca was left on the plate because my friend could not chew it.
I loved Ralph’s at King of Prussia! IMO it’s wayyy better than the South Philly location, which is totally cramped and no parking.
The only issue I have is i need gluten free options, and there wasn’t any. The waiters need to be taught about dietary allergies. Other than that, they are awesome.
