Always good food!
Seating was too cramped. The host placed us at a tiny table next to a large family. We were probably about 1 foot from their table. Even though my reservation indicated that this was for a date, he made no attempt to find a nicer, quieter location. I realize that the place is not large and has a more “homey” feel, but I found it strange that the host asked if our reservation was made on open-table, chuckled under his breath and seated us at a tiny table that we had to maneuver around people to get to.
The food that was recommended by server (veal parm) was not impressive. It tasted as if it was over cooked in a deep fryer and topped with jar sauce. I don’t know why so many people are claiming this to be “authentic” Italian. The pasta, which was served in a separate bowl on the side, barely had any sauce on it and the sauce that was on it, had zero flavor. The food tasted nothing like authentic Italian. My boyfriend’s lasagna was served overflowing in a bowl too small for the food. Although it was a large portion, it was not very hot inside and the ricotta mixture had a dry texture versus a creamy consistency. The muscles in red sauce were the highlight of the evening. The garlic/red sauce they were cooked in was very tasty and the muscles (minus 1) were fresh and cooked well. All in all, a big disappointment considering the excellent reviews this restaurant has gotten.
The best Italian food in Philly and the best service.
Good food a little cramped. Tough to find parking. Very historic. Good lasagna. Big salad. Wine was good. Service was excellent. Didn't have to wait to be seated. Went on a Sunday evening. No time for desert had cake at home for birthday. Third time there. Will go back but not soon live too far from the city. Did not try valet parking maybe next time.
I was excited to try this place with all the positive reviews . We were placed in the back with a small table for 4 . It was so small my phone wouldn’t fit on the table when the food came out and me and my 14 year old son were basically elbow over elbow trying to eat . The sauce was not great very sour . We had 2 sides of pasta a chicken Parm and spaghetti and meatballs one glass of wine and 3 sodas and it was almost 100 dollars . The also sat a party of 4 right next to us making it hard to get out when there were at least 10 open tables . Over all not impressed
Everything was delicious I m still stuffed ! The waiter was excellent! My only suggestion the air conditioner vent was blowing freezing air on me
Absolutely loved my Chilean sea bass. Six ladies celebrating my birthday and everyone loved their food!
As always, an awesome dining experience. Outstanding service, great food, wonderful atmosphere, everyone should visit Ralphs for real Italian cuisine.
Food was very good. Our waiter was arrogant, seemed annoyed and made us feel unwelcome. The bus boys were very nice and helpful. My first time here and it will be my last!!
The waiter had an attitude and felt we were just a number, no personal touch like the old days. Won't be back
The food taste like my Grandmom's, always authentic Italian and delicious.
We heard about Ralph`s through a local, we didn't know it was as popular as it is until we arrive over there.
The quality of the food is great, and the attention of the waitress -in my opinion- is a little bit out of place, we had three different waitress attention, they even moved away the plate of my fiancée before I had finished. They transmit me a little bit of their excitement.
Apart from that, the atmosphere and the most important thing, the food, is just really italian.
Totally recommendable :)
One of my all time favorite restaurants. Great food at a fair price. Just recently I held my son’s 21st birthday dinner there.
Manicotti was delicious!
Our waiter was so nice. We were not rushed at all.
The Food and Dining Experience were Excellent as always!
I took some out-of-town work colleagues to Ralph's to introduce them to a south Philly Italian restaurant. One of my colleagues arrived about 15 minutes early, and asked if she could order a drink while she was waiting. She was told by the Host at the door that she couldn't and that she would have to wait for the rest of us to arrive. When we arrived she told us what happened, and the host overheard us, jumping in and saying that was the way things were done at Ralph's. My colleague commented that it seemed strange, and the host gave a nasty reply that she didn't seem to understand his explanation. The food and waiter service was very good, but the incident left a sour note over the evening and I doubt I'll suggest Ralph's again to these colleagues. Would recommend otherwise, just don't cross the guy at the door!
Excellent service and food
We brought out-of-town guests to Ralph's and they loved the charming decor! Food was very good too, and our waiter was very nice and attentive.
We’ve come here for years now. The other day we found ourselves in the area and wanted a quick late lunch. We were served a lovely meal by a very warm and attentive staff. Our pasta meals were simple but classic and delicious.
Best place ever
We enjoyed a weekend dinner. The food was quite good and authentic. The calamari is sautéed and not fried. Between us we had gnocchi, linguini, and lasagna along with sausage and meatballs. All were quite good. The deserts were also excellent.
This is not the place for a quiet dinner. It’s tightly packed and noisy which has a charm all it’s own. If you don’t wind up interacting with your neighbors, it’s because you must be actively avoiding it.
The staff is on the rushed/down to business side. Perhaps a bit too gruff for my tastes. My daughter ordered the gnocchi not realizing she needed to explain sauces, meat selection, etc to go with it. Waiter was borderline rude and I needed to take her thru it. As the evening progressed, he mellowed out a bit but never came close to being friendly.
Pricing is ok given it’s downtown philly and holds the title of oldest Italian restaurant in the country. Kudos to them for not selling out and making it a tourist trap.
Great traditional South Philly Italian food.
Excellent, as always!
Traditional, nostalgic Italian ambiance with a menu that doesn’t disappoint! This is the perfect place to bring people who appreciate true, quality italian food! A philadelphia classic!
Our dinner and service was very good. we will definitely be making a trip back in the near future!
The food is great, true Italian. Very generous portions.
Seating is really packed in-- not ADA compliant if that matters to you.
There is absolutely no parking here but Ralphs does have a valet park for $10-- well worth it.
We had an 8:00 reservation, but arrived early. Knew we wouldn't be able to get seated until our time, buy figured what's the harm in trying. Host referred us to go across the street to the OneNote Bar- which was great. When our table was ready Ralphs called the bar to notify we could come over and be seated immediately.
Eat here if you love Italian food-- you will not be disappointed! Yum, Yum!
this is best spot in phily the only place I go love it
I hadn’t been to Ralph’s in several years and was relieved to find it as good as ever. This is the real deal, the classic Italian restaurant that has become an endangered species. My gnocchi was perfect as was my husband’s veal. The service was great. Love Ralph’s!
I've made a number of trips to Ralphs & often take dates there who have not visited before.
I've never been disappointed nor have my dates. The food & service is always exceptional, leading to a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Ralphs is a Philadelphia landmark & treasure.
Food was excellent and the service was good also. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal.
Sorry. I didn’t think the food was up to par. The folks who dined with me agreed.
My shimp scampi, ceasar salad and calamari was perfect. The waiter was good too.
Love having dinner here, Such a great place to have dinner the service is awesome and everyone is nice. I will be going there soon
Pastas excellent, great eggplant, heavenly bread, but osso buco tough compared to last visit.
Ralph’s was incredible. The red sauce is so good, it’s clear they’ve perfected it for over 100 years. I was skeptical, but Ralph’s absolutely lives up to the hype.
Our first experience at Ralph’s at it won’t be our last! Everything from the antipasto to the veal saltimbocca to the cannoli cake was
outstanding, as was our server Matt. Excellent!
Perfect Italian restaurant. You will absolutely be satisfied. Definitely make a reservation.
Was recommended by a friend. Enjoyed meal and ambiance at Ralph’s.
Best Veal Parm In the city ! Service is always great.
