Rails...a Cafe at the Depot
Always our go to place in Kerrville when in the area. Staff is friendly, food is excellant and dining in a historic venue.
Although the service was good, the salads were colorful but had so much dressing you couldn’t even tell what you were eating. Desserts were beautiful but tasteless.
When we arrived we found out our table if 6 was mistakenly given to another group that created a 30 min delay in being seated. They did offer a complementary beverage while we stood waiting on the patio.
Atmosphere was terrific. Service outstanding. Value ? Fish special and app was pricey and definitely not worth it! However the other 3 meals ,dessert and coffee were very good! Look forward to going back.
Waitress was awesome food was delicious
My friend had a salad with chicken, walnuts etc and was sick for 12+ hours after.
On a vacation. Good enough that we went back a second night gut.
We ate on the patio and it was a beautiful setting. The food was excellent and the service was great as well. We were visiting the area, so we probably won't be back, but if we do come back we will go there again.
Always enjoy this restaurant. The only negative is where they sat us in a nearly empty restaurant, in a corner at a table too close to and somewhat behind the only other table with diners already seated at the time. It was quite difficult to reach two of the seats for our party of 4 adults and 1 infant. Adding a child’s high chair made it even more crowded.
Extremely good strip steak!!! Very tender and well-seasoned... thanks, John!
We had a lovely server and a great lunch!
Awesome as always.
Had reservations Sat evening 9/28/19 just before the rain shower started. Just before we were seated it started pouring rain, and then in 10-15" was done- but what a mess for the restaurant staff. Was VERY impressed with how the staff responded to this weather event. Did not catch her name, but I presume the manager who attended to our seating and was obviously in charge of coordinating the recovery from the weather event, was charming, professional and efficient. Very impressed. Our waitress "Jasmine" was WONDERFUL. Cant say enough about her and the entire restaurant. High class act! From out of town - but every time we find ourselves in Kerrville, will be dinning with you.
Really great goat cheese and smoke salmon bruschetta. Had the tenderloin and shrimp which was spot on. Desserts were great. Nice wine list to select from for each course. This is a usual pre-triathalon dinner for us and never fails to deliver. Cheers!
Great meal. And when some rain interrupted the outdoor service, the entire staff swept in double-time to provide cover, towels, and resumption of dinner as soon as possible. It’s consistently a pleasure stopping in at Rails when we’re in the Texas Hill Country.
In town for the Kerrville Triathlon festival and got to eat at Rails. Loved the food and the whole vibe of the this restaurant!
👍👍👍 Always great!
I would recommend Rails with reservations. Don't order the steak. I had the NY Strip and it was poorly cooked. There were parts that bordered on medium-well, medium and medium rare. I had ordered rare. The appetizers were good as was the desert.
I was in Kerrville for a business meeting and took the client to Rails at their recommendation, and what a great choice. There were 15 in our party, which was immediately seated upon arrival. Our server, Steph, was WONDERFUL providing great service. We ordered about five of the appetizers, which were my favorite, the entrees were delicious and the desserts were a wonderful finale. The restaurant is small, but quant and cozy.
I will return again whenever I return to Kerrville.
Pork tender with with cranberries was delicious!
Very nice experience. Ivan was a great server and understood we wanted to relax and he paced everything accordingly for us. We always enjoy the food and the presentation at Rails.
Great food and service.
Was a cozy evening bite. Great dessert
Interesting setting. It would have been nice to have a write up somewhere at table or on menu. Food was excellent. Fillet cooked exactly as ordered and the salted caramel cake was exceptional.
Great place, great food, nostalgic, oh and good music!
Very good food and service, as always!
Our favorite restaurant in Kerrville.
Service by Ivan was excellent and we had Celebrated our anniversary there.
Just beautiful people inside and out, cannot say enough about our times there.
First time to sine at Rails and we were not disappointed. The food and service was fantastic. We will definitely go back again...it was worth the 40 minute drive!
Lots of wait staff and they appeared motivated and coordinated. The food came out quickly. It was good but could have been a little more of it.
I got the filet mignon which was very good but the accompanying shrimp wasn't. (It just isn't possible to get good seafood here like you can on the coast.) The sides were ok, they needed a bit more seasoning. The desserts were exceptionally good! The service was very attentive. I did think the prices were a little bit on the high side for the meals we received. Overall a good experience.
Always fabulous food. Highly recommend The Rails for lunch or dinner.
This was our second visit. There were ample menu choices, service was prompt and cordial, food was very good and promptly served. Though we live in San Antonio, we will certainly return.
Do they have a new chef? Food used to be terrific, not anymore. My wife’s salmon was dry and too orange looking. Sysco? My osso buco was dry, tough, sinewy. We would go again, maybe it was a bad night, but off our list for regulars. New owners?
Love this restaurant. Love the specials. Unbelievable desserts. Wait staff is wonderful and very creative with special requests.
This restaurant offers great food choices and all are delicious! This visit I enjoyed a delicious spinach salad with strawberries and grilled chicken. A dinner companion had osso bucco, and I’ll try that next time. Our server, Laura, did an excellent job. The dessert tray made me want to try everything! I’ll be back...
An outstanding dining experience that I definitely recommend. Rails has air conditioned indoor seating, but our group of four opted for a very nice, shaded outdoor area. The setting was comfortable and relaxing.
The food was was excellent. Especially noteworthy were the mahi mahi tacos as well as the grilled beef tenderloin medallions. The desserts were all amazing. We tried the banana pudding, the salted caramel chocolate cake, the Bailey’s Irish Creme chocolate cake, and the carrot cake. All were delicious. They offer several high quality wines by the glass. The prices are moderate and very fair for the excellent quality.
I think the wait staff at Rails is some of the best anywhere. They work as a well trained team and provide wonderful service. Several team members helped out as they passed by, and since our primary server was great, it made for an amazing experience. Service was timed perfectly and it (unlike too many restaurants these days) was unhurried, very friendly, and totally efficient. Definitely hope to return the next time we are in the area.
Delicious food and amazing service! My husband and I ordered an appetizer, two entrees and two desserts. The stuffed flounder and the key lime cheesecake were stand-outs! Yum!
would recommend with caveats!
we made specific res for a specific time(6:45) and 'romantic' table. this was a special birthday.
we arrived on time.
we were met as we entered and of course we said we had reservations.
not even half the dressed tables inside were occupied but we were told 'all those tables are reserved'...we again said we have reservations.... this banter went on 3 times.
finally we were given an undressed table along the traffic route from the kitchen to the garden tables.
food was excellent....thank goodness!
we were under the impression that Rails had a little something 'special' for birthdays.
it was a verbal 'oh, happy birthday'!
we really dont feel this experience was 'up' to the reputation of Rails.
Excellent. Wonderful staff, very accommodating. As per our reservation our table was ready on a very busy day. Thank you.
