Ragtime Tavern & Seafood Grill - Atlantic Beach
We had a late brunch for 6 at Ragtime. As usual, food and service were excellent. Everyone left full and happy.
Eaten here a few times. If you’re looking for noisy atmosphere and sub-par food you found the right place.
While the dining experience at Ragtime was excellent as always, the reservation experience via OpenTable was terrible. When we arrived, Ragtime had no reservation for us - it had not been posted to their system. It was fortunate that we intended to eat early because they still had a few tables available and the place was filling rapidly. I will never use OpenTable to make reservations again.
The food was just mediocre. I do not believe it was worth the money. The ragtime shrimp didn’t taste fresh. The lump crab cakes needed more seasoning. The fries for the fish and chips were very bland. My bf did not like the shrimp and grits at all.
Felt like we were at a Disney restaurant - without the quality. They sat us in the basement section - which was probably the main reason our experience wasn't great - there were 3 or 4 families there but the noise bounced off the walls and made it difficult to hear. We asked for two of our meals with no cheese - both came with cheese. Chopped salad - not really a chopped salad, normal salad. Had higher expectations. Only thing I would recommend would be the fish and chips. Our waitress, while friendly and relatively attentive, began our time with her by announcing she had been out sick with the flu and this was her first day back. EEK.
Our waitress was amazing and the live band was a blast. If I had to give anything a bad review; the beers in the front bar (where the band is) were not cold.
A fun place to bring a group (which we will be doing in August). The food and service are very
good....Ashley is 5-star. Seating is a little different from most restaurants......but, the reason is Ragtime's
ambiance is also different. One caution.....you had better like a noisy place.....sound reverberates
from the ceiling on to your table.....especially if you are seated near the music area.
Several of us had the Ragtime shrimp dinner. The shrimp were great but the red beans & rice and mixed veggies were so so. The mixed veggies seemed like they had been inadequately steamed and dumped out of a bag. However, the service was excellent and the price ok.
Consistently great food and always terrific service! We try to visit every few weeks.
We love ragtime, Brittany has been our waitress more than once and is fantastic at what she does! Great experience, even better food. Try the hummus plate!
Dinner, was good
We have been customers of Ragtime since they first opened. I normally wouldn’t leave a review except for the fact that we some at our table (two of us were visiting from Nashville) had a surprisingly bad meal. Two people got salads and added grilled shrimp as the protein. Being so close to Mayport and being a restaurant that specializes in seafood, we bragged about how good the shrimp was in our area. We were surprised that the shrimp were about the size of my thumb, tasted like they were frozen and given the tiny size, my guess were farm raised and imported from somewhere like Vietnam. If Ragtime needs to charge a little more to serve locally caught Mayport shrimp, they would be advised by this writer to do so. It certainly would be worth it in the quality of their meals and the satisfaction of their customers.
So apparently Ragtime does not really have reservations. Not sure why they are even on Open Table. We arrived on time for our reservation and was told we would be added to the wait list. We were sat in 30 minutes which wasn't too terrible, but not at all what we were expecting when making a reservation. Some dishes were enjoyed (good reviews for etouffee and blackened mahi, rice and beans were great). However, 100% frozen coconut shrimp and vegetables. Bleh. Who serves frozen seasonal vegetables? We had a good time and staff was friendly and accommodating given it was such a busy night (again why I booked a reservation in advance). This was our first time here. We may go back for cocktails but this foodie does not appreciate being served frozen food.
Food was outstanding but came out very slowly. Server kept forgetting what we had requested (i.e. glass of ice, lemons for tea, more napkins...we were there for over 2 hours. Way too long for a lunch.
We had an amazing Mother’s Day brunch. The food was great, the service was great and overall we were very happy!
We love dining at Ragtime. It is a beaches institution! I ordered the special, grilled wahoo with veggies and red beans/rice.... delicious fresh fish and the red beans never disappoint. My daughter had the chicken pasta - her “go to” meal (or the chicken wings lol)
We enjoyed having lunch at Ragtime. It’s always fairly quiet at lunch time.
I always love dining at Ragtime! I ordered the ahi tuna salad and it was delish! My daughter had the chicken pasta and it was cooked to her liking (without tomatoes) - special requests are never a problem at Ragtime because all is freshly prepared. I hope Ragtime will always be around because they have great food, fun night life with live bands and lots of meeting spaces. Great job to this piece of beaches history.
Let me preface my "I do not recommend this" with, I do not recommend going during tourist season. The place was packed. Food was ok, but nothing really wanting me to say "I'm willing to make the effort to come back." Parking is an absolute nightmare. They have valet service across the street, but the lot fills quickly and you can (and I did) spend more than 30 minutes riding around looking for somewhere to park. Our server was nice enough, but it took quite a while to even get drink refills. I don't really think this was her fault as more so with them not having enough staff that night. My husband had steak and I had shrimp tacos. The shrimp were bland and barely cooked. My husband's steak looked nice, but at $40 it should be in my opinion.
The band was great, food was outstanding, we had the etoufee and shrimp/lobster tacos. The beniots were to die for.
We had the Ribeye and the Filet Mignon, they were sooo tender and tasty, we really enjoyed them, the veggie was cold so that could have been better, the mini russet potatoes were also very good. Will definitely return on our next Jax weekend.
The sesame tuna is amazing!! Every time I am anywhere near this place,it's a "gimme" where I'm going to eat!
Food, service and overall value were OUTSTANDING.
The place could do with some serious ACOUSTICS though. It is uncomfortably LOUD.
Good beer, excellent food, good happy hour appetizer specials. The most deafening noise I’ve ever experienced while dining.
Favorite place to lunch with group. Quiet, not crowded and good food.
Great food! A piece of advice for the restaurant, when someone makes a reservation it would be nice to be seated in a booth instead of a table in the middle of the bar section (restaurant was not even close to being full). Other than that, everything was great!
Compared to other similarly priced places, I just wasn't impressed with the quality of food whatsoever. The fish was so-so, the steamed vegetables felt like they were frozen and simply steamed - there was no seasoning and the broccoli and cauliflower were overdone and mushy.
It was such s fun time! And the filet was divine!
Picked on a whim as it was near where we were driving - a late birthday lunch. Service was good and fast, food came out very quickly. I had hummus salad + salmon and partner had crab cake sandwich, we loved both. They did not really acknowledge our "it's his birthday" comment, which is unusual for a restaurant, but it was ok. I would imagine it's very loud in there on a busy day.
We stopped in for dinner before a book signing event just down the street. We had been here before and were pleased with the service and food. The restaurant is large with all types of seating arrangements and a full bar. On this visit my wife had the New World hummus platter, fresh hummus and veggies. I had the Shrimp and lobster with pasta served in a light cream sauce. Both were good my plate had lots of both shrimp and chunks of lobster. Virginia served us and did a fine job. They have an extensive menu, enough to satisfy most dining desires.
This restaurant has gone through many changes in the 25+ years we have been going. A few fits and starts after corporate acquisition years ago, but it has been consistently great the last few years. Unfortunately, the secret is out about our little gem of a neighborhood in AB and it is impossible to park anywhere without having to wait 15-30 minutes for your car. This is A1A VALET, not Ragtime.
Ragtime continues to be the centerpiece of the AB/NB corner.
Our server (Danielle) was courteous, friendly and attentive.
The food was not very good. The calamari appetizer was good. The fried crab sandwich special was flavorless and soggy. The steak tacos entree had very little steak (mostly stuffed with lettuce) and approximately 1/3 of it was unchewable fatty and tough pieces. Disappointing after it came highly recommended by a local patron.
We don’t usually go to the same restaurant each week but I recently joined SkyMiles Dining and am trying to take advantage of extra points incentives. I have to say that the food at Ragtime has been consistently yummy! I had the chicken tacos special and my daughter had the wings. Great quality, perfect portions and great service! We will keep coming back for all these reasons plus the great location and atmosphere.
Good food and live music. The staff is very friendly and the place is very nice.
Our favorite place for our gatherings. Food and service are always good.
We always enjoy Ragtime! It is a great place to hang out at the beach. I had the teriyaki mahi and it was delicious. It was served with vegetables and red beans & rice... yum! The others had steak tacos which is another favorite.
The server brought my dish first then my husband’s dish a few minutes later. My dish cooled somewhat. Disappointing but food was good.
Food was great! Service was great....will definitely be back!!
The best shrimp and grits in Florida!
