Quay restaurant is located right next to the Navy Pier and near the Mag Mile in Chicago. This large establishment features a bar area with televisions showing all the games, a sit down dining room, as well as a private party space that overlooks the Chicago River for events. Cocktails such as the Red Gingham are just some of the unique offerings at the bar at Quay.
The food at Quay is traditional American bar food with a modern twist. Kale and artichoke dip makes for a great appetizer. Burgers, steaks and the delicious Amish chicken entrees are all dinner options. Enjoy brunch on the weekends with menu items such as chicken and waffles or lobster bisque.
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I will definitely return!
I came here with friends to watch the MSU/OSU football game. We had a big crowd - about 30 people - and Quay easily accommodated us. Besides our group, it was empty, but that meant excellent service. I appreciated a quiet spot with tables and seats for us to watch the game. The food is a notch above most bar food, even the fancier bars, so that's a huge plus. Quay is my go-to spot for all MSU games.
We made a last minute reservation for a Saturday night. When we arrived our table was ready for 10 of us. I found it quite odd that the type of restaurant/bar it is that on a Saturday night they had football games on all of the TVs and the sound was up super loud. It seemed as though they were trying to be a sports bar when that it not what is portrayed at all. The food was pretty good and the service was great. My only complaint is at if I wanted to watch football I would have gone to a sports bar.
I made a reservation for 6 but there was literally NO ONE in the dining room dining at 6pm. My wife asked, Why did you choose this place? I said, I read it had 3 dining rooms and it was a good alternative to eating at a burger place on Navy Pier. Since we were pressed for time because we had theater tickets on Navy Pier we were stuck, but chose to eat in the bar area because at least there were people drinking there, but it also is primarily a burger place. The server was very sweet and the chicken and steak taco was good.
Not sure what this restaurant wants to be - walking in it looks like a store room with summer furniture stacked in the doorway, then a huge sports bar, then nice white table dining room. The service was very friendly but the menu was pure sports bar-fattening indulgent and spicy.
I loved Quay when they first opened. The food was good, the service was good, and there was a good vibe in the place. I would go and watch games in the bar area and have a great meal. But my last two visits have been disappointing. The food has changed quite a bit and there just isn't the energy it used to have. I don't know if management changed or the chef but something is definitely different.
I was here once before for brunch and it was great, sat in a back room at the bar that was bright and full of windows, had delicious bloody mary's... all good. Took someone here for their birthday and expected the same happy thought.... but it was awful. Service was crazy slow. The dining room was empty and plain. The birthday boy couldnt even eat his chicken it was so dry. Took us 2 hours to get out of there with the slow pace of everything. Was really disappointed, and sad to say i'll never go back.

I ordered the scallops. They were small and sandy. I was there on a Sunday evening and it was SUPER quiet.
I didn't see lots of options in the menu. The food was ok not very impressive but the ambiance was great and quite.
Food was very good, so was the wait staff. The issue was the delay in the delivery of the food in a timely manner. 3 of the 4 dishes were warm and 1 was piping hot. Shore up the timing of the food a bit and scores would have been much higher.
The best thing about our experience at Quay was the very sweet waitress. She did her best, but the food was so below average. Nothing was very good.

Although the place was rather empty (Wednesday 630) which kind of dampered the excitement a bit, it was overall very nice. Great portion size with the mussels dish which was totally unexpected.
Reasonable cost for a place nice and close to Navy Pier. Will be back.
if you're looking for a pre theater dinner and want to go someplace other than Riva's this is a pleasant choice. It's within walking distance to the theater.
Everyone's meal was extremely salty. 2 of us had salmon and one of us the pork chop. We all commented about the taste. Very surprising that they would allow this to happen. Had heard it was a good joint. Another red flag...we were the ONLY ones in the restaurant on a Tuesday night. Ate at 7:00, left around 8:00. Sat in the bar prior and were the only ones there as well. Waitress was new, not very knowledgeable, but nice.
We came here as a huge group for an MSU basketball game. They accommodated our group easily in the front bar area, played the sound for the game, and were really attentive to our huge group. We will be back for more Spartan basketball and football games!
Assembled an impromptu gathering and needed a large space on short notice - Quay was fabulous. It probably helped that March Madness was in full swing, the bar was packed but that left the dining room available for our group. Food was excellent and the staff were very flexible in accommodating extraneous kid-related requests, like running to the store down the block to get milk.
Good location and nice decor. Seems like a good place for a beer and to watch a game. However, the service was terrible and the food not very good. I had a hamburger (easy right?) and it was pretty terrible - made with cheap, rubbery meat. I wouldn't rec this place, plenty of other places to check out in the area.
We went on a Wednesday night, and things were pretty slow at the restaurant, but we had a very good experience. I had the pork chop, which was really fantastic, and I highly recommend it. My wife had the rigatoni, which was good, but not exactly memorable. Their salads are tasty, but enormous (we could easily have shared one), and they have an interesting cocktail menu that's worth a look if you're into that sort of thing. One other note: although they don't say it on their website, they offer discounted parking at the underground garage across the street.
They are not professional. I made a reserve, they close the restaurant and they don't make contact with me to inform they change the hour to close the restaurant.
Great food! Will return when we visit Chicago!
Second time we dined at Quay and we were not disappointed. Food was fabulous. It was rainy and cold so we couldn't appreciate the river view, but the restaurant is a gem tucked close to major hotels. Chris, our server, was personable and very attentive. Don't miss the opportunity.
Absolute gem in every way -- comfortable bar scene with yummy leather banquette seating -- beautiful dining room as well. Excellent, upscale pub food and beyond. Their Thanksgiving menu makes me want to skip the trip over the river and thru the woods! Attentive and well-trained staff. Great spot for a date, for watching a game, or before-after movie down the street.
I did really like the place, the food was good, great appetizers, loaded drinks. We went back to the private dining, so it was quiet and secluded.
Our server was a bit distracted but after I called his attention things changed to the better. Bill for 8 people including tip was $600 about 3 drinks per person.
The restaurant is a little odd in that it's a "Sports Bar" in front and a white tablecloth, more elegant dining experience in the back. Both rooms though, share the same menu. Holding theater tickets, we ordered several small plates, soup and some wine. The mac and cheese which pulled pork was really not so great. Not very cheesy and the bread crumbs outshone the pulled pork for flavor. The "steak and tots" was mostly tots. The tots tasted like mass prepared from a bag of frozen and the steak with blue cheese drizzle was . . . ok. The vegetable soup was probably the star of the evening. Hearty and slightly spicy. Service was friendly and efficient. I'd give it another chance but, honestly, was a little underwhelmed.
I was disappointed that the dining room was closed for construction. We were seated in the bar and I expected tavern food. Though burgers were available, the dinner choices were really good. I had the Amish Chicken and it was excellent. The brussel sprouts also really good. We really loved the beet salad as a starter; it had the perfect amount of dressing! All four of us liked the food and the service was great.
We had our first dining experience at Quay and we were not disappointed..food and service was wonderful. We had the caprese and hummus appetizers along with seared scallops with mac-n-cheese. Very good dinner and wonderful service. Would love to try again in summer when outdoor patio is open.
I had heard mixed reviews about Quay and I could see why. Some of the food was good, some was ok, some was bad. Didn't seem like there was much of an identity with the restaurant. The service was pretty slow and the total bill seemed abnormally high. A lot of the dishes need to be revamped. I wouldn't go back, but it wasn't the worst place I've eaten.
The food was OK but the service and noisy, blaring rock music from the speakers
above made it hard to even communicate with the waiter who was a bit inattentive at first.
The food was great and if I am ever in the neighborhood, I would definitely go back. Service was great!
I specifically booked this spot because of the view of the wharf that on their website is advertised as just opened. When we got there we were made to wait outside because the kitchen only opens at 11am, yet on there website they say they open at 10am and we were told the deck area on the wharf was under construction.
Ordered an "artisan pizza" as an appetizer and it came out stone cold--the cheese wasn't even melted. I had it returned and it took another 20 minutes for them to get our app. After finishing that, it took another 30 minutes from that point for our food to come out. I ordered a shortrib grilled cheese sandwich. Took two bites out of my grilled cheese only to discover that there was NO shortrib in my shortrib sandwich. My server apologized and told me he would have the kitchen fire up a new one, but by that time, it had already been well over an hour since we'd walked in the door. Also, my Diet Pepsi was completely flat. Despite all of these issues with the service, not a single visit by the manager to say sorry. Unacceptable.
Aside from the building renovations our meal was wonderful. Service was prompt and friendly. Drinks and appetizers set the mood for the Ahi and scallops that were both terrific. Would like to eat on the dock when the construction is over but we will go back sooner to try out the bar snacks.
We've loved this place in the past but, this dinner was NOT good!! We went for the food AND to sit by the water. First, people need to know they are under renovation and MOST of the place is closed off, and just the front bar room is open. Second, that's no excuse for bad food!!! And EXPENSIVE food! We won't go back.
I can't recommend this place and I won't go back. I expected this restaurant would take full advantage of being near the water - but that is not the case. The front bar is looks like any other sports bar and was quite loud. The large dining room is windowless and claustrophobic - and it was stifling hot. And.. the last hope was dashed as the dockside dining was closed. The food was also bad.. I got mussels and they were completely rubbery. A waste of a location ... don't go.
Food and service were pretty good but nothing stood out.
The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived, but it took 10 minutes to even see our waiter. My first drink had a fly in it and had to be sent back, and the food was just okay. Their green salad is literally just lettuce, a dash of dressing, and a few croutons...certainly not worth $6. We chose the location because we wanted to sit in the atrium to watch fireworks, but it was closed for a private party.
We were disappointed on a Friday night visit. The front bar was happening and busy, the back patio had an event, but the dining room was nearly empty. They were extremely late in our order as it was taking extra long to cook my husband's porkchop. When it did come - it was still not cooked properly. The server and manager could not have been more apologetic and offered us a free drink and money off the bill, but bottom line - when you offer this on the menu, your chef should be competent in cooking it. It was also a hot/stuffy atmosphere when hoping for a cool place on a hot night. Even when we got our ice cream for dessert, it had melted. Considering there were only a few tables dining, you would not expect these issues.

We've heard great things about Quay as a up and coming location. I was pleasantly surprised by the amazing ambiance and enjoyed the service. The staff was also flexible with our group and we did enjoy the option for the lounge after dinner. It was a very slow night for Friday evening and I party made up the majority of the restaurant but it was nice and private which was perfect for the occasion. I look forward to visiting Quay in the summer again.
