What Insiders Are Saying
Cater to your basic needs with small plates Italian food in River North.
Good food, to try! Pasta quite good, very good meat.

A & c.
The food (we had 3 different appetizers/4 different entrees) and service were very good! Never had pasta vongole with so many clams in it :).
Waitress had ordered my pasta with wrong sauce but left the wrongly ordered dish with us because she said they'd only throw it away and we could still eat some if we'd like. GREAT solution because I always feel so bad returning food (even if the mistake is not mine) because it gets thrown away (the pasta was wonderful even with the wrong sauce btw).
Food it not brought to the table for all at the same time. Of course this "share-your-food"-concept saves the kitchen time and planning since dishes can be sent out as soon as they are ready instead of timing simultaneous serving. We didn't mind that concept and shared more of our food than usual ;)
Only drawback is the noise level. The restaurant is big and VER'Y loud. Lively is one thing - imo noisy another. We had a corner table at the back of the restaurant but it was difficult at times to understand each other due to the noise.
If you don't mind the background noise: We can fully recommend Quartino's!
Very attentive wait staff and great food at a reasonable price especially for river north. It does get very noisy especially where we sat. Otherwise good experience.
I've been here a couple times before, although it has been a while. Not sure if it was the dishes we picked or the kitchen has gone downhill since I was there last, but I thought everything was just so so. First off, we found it annoying that the wine menu lists options of a glass, 1/2 liter, or liter, but when we ordered a liter, a regular 750ml bottle came. What's up with that? Seems like false advertising. And the waiter didn't pour a taste before he filled our glasses, which we thought was bad form. We ordered the salumeria tasting board (2 meats, 2 cheeses, 2 cold apps), which was alright - not the best I've had, not the worst. The waiter talked way too fast for us to understand everything he was describing. Then we ordered the burrata with beets and arugula. The burrata was super hard, not at all delightfully creamy as it should be, and the beets tasted like they were canned. We also had a truffle and mushroom risotto, which was probably the best thing we had, pretty tasty. Overall, I was not impressed.
Had a wonderful meal and the service was excellent. Our server Margot, was an absolute delight. She helped us tremendously with the Gluten Free menu and deciding on drinks etc. It was extremely busy and food and drinks came out at a good pace. Menu prices are very responsible as well.
Attended for my wife’s birthday. Quartino is the site of our first date and we are always happy to come back. Noise is always loud there, but it has a truly authentic Italian ambience.
Great food. Very busy atmosphere but service was top notch and quick.
Love the food!
Fantastic as always. Management and waiter went above and beyond to make our evening an unforgettable one. Thank you! You can NEVER go wrong with Quartino!
We have been coming here for years and the food is always excellent. The service is great as well. On weekends it’s very busy but worth it! Get the veal meatballs!
Dinner was as usual, one of our dishes took an exceptionally long time to come out of the kitchen but a manger compted the dish which was so nice because we didn’t have to ask or say anything they immediately offered it.
Ambiance was good and lively but don’t go with anyone you want to talk to because you won’t be able to hear them.
Loved the food and the service, the restaurant was on the energetic side but made talking with your guests a little challenging as the noise level was loud.
Great service. Great location. Great food. Can’t ask for more than that.
The food was just bad. We couldn’t even eat the gnocchi.
Love this place! Lively atmosphere, great food to share & excellent service. Thanks, Margo!!
We were visiting Chicago with friends and went here our first evening. We felt like we were being welcomed into an Italian family home and being served homemade dinner. We ordered the pasta with braised short rib ragu, shrimp diavalo, romaine salad, linguine Alfredo, 2 pizzas. So much fun and the good was delicious and reasonably priced.
Thank you! We love Quartino!
Came all the way from Texas to show my niece great food. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. Never disappoints and will continue to let people know they have to try this amazing resturant.
Seven of us went there for lunch for my daughter's bday. The premise is small plates of Italian food to be shared. We were amazed at the many choices provided and quality of each dish. We were pleasantly surprised how much food we had for such a economical price. Wonderful value, we plan on returning.
FABULOUS FABULOUS FOOD & SERVICE.... LOVE THIS LITTLE PIECE OF HEAVEN!!!
I appreciate that the staff gave us a corner table that was quieter but I didn’t realize this was such a “family friendly” restaurant. Affordable prices, loud bustling ambiance and the food was okay for the price. I don’t plan on returning and wouldn’t recommend except for families.
By far my favorite restaurant in Chicago. Service is great, drinks are great, food is superb, environment is spot on (they were playing a Sophia Loren movie while I was there). 10/10 would recommend and 10/10 will be going back.
Only if you wear ear plugs! We sat next to a group that just attended the bull fights and the bull won.
We really enjoyed the shared plate concept and delicious pasta dishes. This restaurant was packed and our table was right next to a bread slicer, so the noise level was a little more than I'd prefer. Service was great though.
We will be back.
Really nothing special. WAY too loud. Food was ok.
This was one of the worst restaurants I have visited. It took well over 15 minutes to get a server to come to our table and then it wasn’t even our server. The food was nothing special, horribly plated and each person’s meal in the party of five came out at different times (despite none of the entrees being large enough to be family style). I would recommend finding a true Italian restaurant that actually had servers and managers that wanted to work and food that was representative of good Italian cuisine.
It was extremely loud inside we actually had to move outside. This is not a good spot for a romantic dinner. Great food, great service just very loud.
Excellent service. I noted that I had Celiac (Gluten Allergy) in the note when I booked my reservation and they already had the gluten free menu available and came out and assured me they do everything they can to avoid cross contamination. Every restaurant should follow Quartino’s lead on this. Made for an amazing experience and food was incredible.
My family of five were seated about 10 minutes after our scheduled reservation time through Open Table...pretty amazing considering how many people were waiting. Our server, Daniela, was super nice and helpful with menu selections. We started with tomato soup for our 10 yo. It tasted good. A bit chunky. We also ordered the $29 charcuterie and chose the pickled veggies, beet salad, coppa, prosciutto, fontina, & Parmesan. It came with a spicy relish and an apricot purée. For dinner, the pappardelle was so delicious with super tender meat. My husband enjoyed his pork shank. The shrimp risotto was our favorite and wish we had more. My son ordered penne vodka...it was meh. Our youngest ordered tortellini and I’d say that was a close second. Too full for dessert. Would definitely return.
The foot was awful. No taste to any of the pastas. Salt and pepper was needed in order to even tolerate it. The ambiance was cool though
We hopped in around 1PM for a quick lunch and we left around 1:30PM! Love the pizza and the quick service. Fun atmosphere and great food.
Food is out of this world. Service spectacular. The only thing we’d say is that it was realllllly noisy but they - without us asking- offered to move us and it was super busy so that was a wonderful accommodation. Just love this place!!!!
Good food and wine. Affordable.
The food was subpar and it was so loud in the restaurant we had to yell to have conversation.
Food was amazing! Food is made to share so was able to try a few things. It was a really loud in there but as to be expected since it was a Friday night and they were very busy. My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we were in out of town so we made reservations. They got us right to a table when we got there and they even brought us lemon shots on the house for our anniversary. It was great. We plan on going there again next time we are in the city :)
I’ve been here a few times during the day for lunch and enjoyed it. Fast service, great food, and you can hear the people you’re sitting next to.
My family and I went here on a Friday evening, and it was a different experience.
It was busy and loud. Plus, the dining area tries to squeeze as many people into the space as possible! You literally cannot hear the person next to you without raising your decibel level a few notches.
Food was good. I had my usual Cavatelli (which tasted amazing, but unfortunately came out just barely warm; I could tell it’d been sitting). I also had the zepole’s which were good.
Service was subpar, but our server was nice. However, we had to remind her to bring 2 items that’s she forgot, even after coming back to our table a few times.
I’d never come back on the weekend, and wouldn’t recommend this place for a date. I’ll be back - but only during the day when the food, service, and noise level is up to par.
I was wonderful! The food is amazing. The bartender we had was great.
