What Insiders Are Saying
Cater to your basic needs with small plates Italian food in River North.
Food was not what I expected it to be. Unflavored
We had a fairly large group for a birthday celebration. You can't be seated until your entire party is present. When I went to let the hostess know we were all there, I stood at the hostess area and was actively ignored by 3 employees helping everyone around me. Another person from my party intervened to see what was going on. Guess my appearance caused me not to be seen as a guest equal to those around me. I will not eat here by choice ever again.
The Ambiance was nice , I think there was a lot of noise with larger groups being seated with people that were in smaller groups . It did disturb the mood of the restauran. The food was delicious , the players were said to be big but they were actually quite small.
Amazing! The food was incredible and our waiter was super nice and welcoming.
Portions are a lot smaller than they use to be
We love this place, the only one problem, tables very close to each other.
Great food at great prices. Service was amazing. Definitely will be going back!
Was a bit more commercialized, larger than what I believed on-line, but I'll try it again for dinner (versus lunch); no parking / difficult to find parking, so better to Uber / taxi there.
Amazing food, simply loud due to amount of people, but comfortably able to converse. The server had great recommendations and was polite all night.
Tables are way too close together - especially for a 9 month pregnant lady like myself. We felt trapped! Also the tables are really tiny for a sharing plates restaurant. Food was good though. Just cramped.
Felt really authentic. The portion sizes were great and it felt like eating with family and friends
The food was good! The service was not the best. The waiter was amazing. However when the bus boy came to collect out dishes he threw away our $30 cheese tray that was still half full without even asking if we were finished with it or if we wanted to take it home
A large group of us went to eat here on a Saturday night. It was our first time here but I wasn’t a big fan of how they bring everything as it’s done. We all for our food at different times so we had to sit there forever and watch each other eat basically. Some of us got the wrong thing. One of us didn’t even get our food until finally talking to the manager. Through all the chaos though, our server was great and apologized and was very nice. He tried his best to handle the situation (which he did) and we for a good chunk of money off our bill because everything that happened. Maybe it was just bad luck for us or the kitchen but probably wouldn’t go back. Wasn’t a fan of the bolognese (no one really loved their food from our group honestly) but the zeppoli doughnuts with the chocolate sauce i liked.
We had a lovely time at Quartino. I only rate it 4 stars, because the food did not taste as wonderful (5 stars) as it had in the past. A little bland! We also felt as though we were shouting to be heard at our table. Very energetic crowd and the tables are very close.
Great for going with groups! Reservations are recommended!
Fun atmosphere and good food!
Moderate food. Poor mixed drink. Stultifying noise. Well meaning but not such good service.
First time here and just loved it! Food was delicious and service excellent! The portions were the perfect size!
Wonderful place! Loved it
Excellent service and great food. Our server was great as well.
Awful dinning experience. Will not go back, don’t recommend
We were very very disappointed in the food as this is one of our favorite restaurants. We live in the neighborhood and this is our go to restaurant.
The veal meatball were extremely hard,. The fried calamari were tough, and had no taste other than the heavy breading.
The salmon was very tasty but the Brussels sprouts tasted like they had been sitting around for hours.
I love this place , authentic Italian cousin and very good staf
The food and service is top flight, as you would expect of a Gibson’s affiliate. They know what the market wants and give it to them. Not the typical menu selections, but very good variations. Worth the trip.
Loved the food, especially the meatballs and spicy shrimp dish!
Place was packed as usual, but wasn't overly noisy. Service was quick and waiter was friendly while not memorable. Went as a group of four and shared: polpette, shrimp diavolo, baby octopus, brussel sprouts, sausage risotto, white bean spread, and rigatoni.
Polpette - 3.5/5 - decent meatballs, tender, sauce was okay, could've used a little more flavor
Shrimp diavolo - 3.5/5 - good, but nothing special. Won't order again when we go back
Octopus - 5/5 - perfectly cooked
Brussel Sprouts - 5/5 - very tasty
Sausage risotto - 5/5 - creamy with good flavor. Will definitely order again
White bean spread - 5/5 - perfect amount of garlic
Rigatoni - 4/5 - very good dish, could've used a little less burrata
Good food, good value but a very tight space inside. Waiters kept on bumping into us while we ate and it was uncomfortably hot. Meal was very good though; liked the family style plates and the carafes of wine.
Going into dinner, I was not aware that these would be shared plates-style dining (which - FYI!) but I'm so glad that it was. We were able to share all of our dishes and left feeling stuffed with yummy food. It was GREAT quality and ambiance for an affordable price. The drinks were large and yummy, too!
Was very disappointing experience. The food was great and our server was really good. But the floor manager that took us to a seat, put us at a table in the middle of a highly traveled doorway. I’m not saying next to the doorway, our table was in the middle of the door! The hosted had to repeat herself to him because he was on his phone and never said anything to us, just walked over to, again the table in the doorway, set the menus down and walked away before we could be asked to move. I was bummed twice by staff, one time knocking the food off my fork, and once by another customer.
True Italian food! No chef boyardee
The hit dates were phenomenal
great for a group of people but not for dinner for 2
food and wine were great
reservations a must
Very slow service on food, forgot few items, but food was still great
Very friendly service, great food and drinks, amazing and lively environment!
I'm lactose intolerant and have cut out dairy for the year. The waiter was extremely helpful and said he could create a dish for me that would accommodate my dietary restriction.
Very noisy and food was ok
First time visit on a Friday night with 3 friends - we had a great time! The food comes out as it is ready so we were excited to see what showed up next. We sampled about 10 dishes between us - the big winners were the bolognese on fresh pasta and the risotto. The food was all so good we had to try dessert; the coppa alla banana was outstanding! The ambience is vibrant and fun. The only (minor) drawback is that the noise level is high and we were seated next to a birthday party of about 25 young men who were having a blast and conversation was difficult at times. We'll definitely be back.
Came for restaurant week with some friends. Our service and food was great. Everything was explained well and very accommodating for food allergy concerns. Would highly recommend!
My boyfriend and I wanted to enjoy a romantic evening and enjoy restaurant week. We decided to make reservations here at 9:30pm. When we arrived, it was very loud and crowded. The hostess' didn't seem very welcoming and were distracted. I am sure due to how busy it was. We were then seated right next to the kitchen so we can hear chatter among the customers as well as noises from the kitchen. It wasn't really pleasant where we were seated. It took about 5 minutes until our server came to greet us and provide us with menus. We decided to go with the Restaurant menu which is three plates and a dessert. We chose the Salumi salad, Parpadelle gluten free pasta (braised beef) and Salmon entrée, and a Banana w/ Ice cream dessert. (We forgot the name). The waiter took our order and we didn't see him again until our second entrée. We did not enjoy the Parpadelle. The pasta didn't taste like it was cooked well. It was missing a lot of flavor. Upon finishing the Parpadelle, our waiter came to us to ask us if we were ready to order our last entrée. We looked confused since we already put in our order and he said he'll put our order in. After 3 minutes, the Salmon was sent to our table. The Salmon tasted very dry and over cooked. It wasn't warm anymore as if it were made ready long ago. When we informed our waiter we wanted to pack some of the food to go, he took the food and seemed like he threw the take home bag on the table and walked to another table to see how they were doing. We were shocked to see that since we were still finishing up our dessert.
Over all, we didn't enjoy the food, the noisiness, and most of all the food. We do not recommend anyone to come here. It was such a let down.
Favorite Italian place in Chicago! Fun energetic vibe. Really simple but amazing food. Will visit again when we return to Chicago.
We shared 6/7 dishes. Perfect place for a group wanting to enjoy bites and cocktails or wine.
